Red Skull and Iron Monger are neck and neck, but I just put Red Skull first because he had more of a presence in the movie overall compared to Stane. Whiplash was the most disappointing.

After seeing Black Panther twice and thinking it over, I'd probably rank Killmonger as the best MCU villain to date, even better than Loki. Especially since Loki has worked together with Thor for about half of his total screentime in the MCU. I'm sure Thanos will deliver but so far, the villains in Phase 3 have been pretty damn good.

I have a good feeling about Thanos, even though I'm still keeping that in check after I was convinced that Ultron would be the greatest MCU villain ever before AOU came out. I trust the Russos though.

As for Ghost, I'm not expecting that much from the villains of Ant-Man and the Wasp considering Ant-Man doesn't have all that impressive of a rogue's gallery, but I could be surprised. I just hope there's no "Surprise, Janet's actually turned evil!" twist.

As for Captain Marvel, we know relatively little about the villains other than the Skrulls will be in it, but seeing that Ben Mendelsohn will play the main villain is an exciting prospect.

For me, my top baddie of Phase 1, had to be Loki, with the Red Skull coming in a close 2nd. Then it goes Whiplash, abomination and lastly Iron monger.

Of these guys for Phase 2, Ronnon seemed a petulant child, Malekith, was laughable, Killian was fun. Ultron though actually seemed a threat. So i rank it Ultron, Killian, Pierce, Yellow jacket, Malekith, and lastly Ronan.

Hammer was comical to watch, but i'd not even put him in the league of a teirtrary villian, let alone 2ndary one.

Hammer was comical to watch, but i'd not even put him in the league of a teirtrary villian, let alone 2ndary one.

He was an antagonist for Tony Stark, responsible for releasing Vanko from prison and providing him with the Hammer Drones used in the final battle. He's objectively a villain.

And personally, I found him engaging because above all, he's interesting to watch and has a personality. He fancied himself a version of Tony Stark but couldn't quite match him yet he kept trying. So there's smarm, perseverance, arrogance and kind of the expertise to back it up...I mean regardless of his technological shortcomings, he was still responsible for those drones and for outfitting the War Machine armor. It's also his magic bullet that puts down Luke Cage for a good while...

I mean compared to Malekieth or Ronan just on the basis of personality alone, I find Justin Hammer a much more interesting villain than either of them.

What would've made that more so is if they'd found a way to bring him back to get revenge on Tony, but I'm not sure where, when or even if that'll happen now that we have Thanos on the horizon and everything else that's coming.

For me he was a less interesting/menacing version of Stane (and Killian was a less interesting version of both of them). And the fact that they focused so much on him (and shoved Vanko, the actually interesting and menacing villain) to the side for most of the second half, REALLY undercut the movie imo.

Just the winners, because the rest aren't that good....until phase 3 !

Wow ! All of a sudden we have 3 terrific villains and some other decent ones.

Okay here goes.

1. Thanos, terrific character and a legit challenger for Ledger's crown.

2. Hela, a superb villain, better than anything in phase 2

3. Kilmonger, a nicely developed character - very bitter. The most down to earth of the phase 3 bad guys.

4. Ego, not quite up with the others but pretty neat - the reveal was really well done.

Bumping now that Infinity War is out. Killmonger had a good two month run, but Thanos clearly takes the cake for best MCU villain.
