MCU Thor Respect Thread (Spoilers!!!)

A deleted scene (and therefore not canon) I know, but this is still hugely impressive.

It's canon to me Fosterson......it's canon to me.

Any recommendations on the best Thor statue out there?

Well, there's a big one in Stockholm if you're willing to travel:

Haha, nice. I do actually plan to go to Stockholm within the next few years so glad that you mentioned that. But I was actually asking about the best collector statue anyone has seen of Thor. ;)

This IW gif, done and edited like this is fantastic. I mean look at that...
The radius of destruction is incredible. Everything totally fried and once again it's not only the hit that makes the damage but also the conjuring of separate lightning as seen in Ragnarok too.

Nice cover for FCBD AVENGERS #1. Cool look at Thor.
I like the uru arm look a lot, but i actually prefer the silver one... I really hope one day we get King Thor with the uru arm in the MCU, it's such an iconic look and would add a ton more depth to a character that is already so rich with history and has gone through so much. They could even recover the arm of the Destroyer from Thor 1, since the armour wasn't totally obliterated and actually fell on the main road of that small town.

Yeah, I would love to see that eventually. What a journey it will have been for Thor if we see him get to that point.

Yeh. Even nowadays when we see compilations of Thor's journey in the MCU it's just amazing what the character has been through... the trials and tribulations, the changes in look, his atitude... It's like a gold mine of great and layered content from an outstanding transformation.

One can still do so much with Thor in the future of the MCU. Just keeping on adding those nuances to the character look, everything has a story behind it and that is perfect to give even more depth to an already multilayered character.

The uru arm, the return of the eyepatch, maybe a more metallic and hardcore looking armour, a cool looking helmet... Old King Thor look ftw. The ultimate look in my book. It's really my absolute dream for the future of the character in the MCU.

My ultimate Thor look was in Thor: The Dark World and the beginning of Ragnarok.

Give him another decade of films and it will be time for King Thor in Avengers 8 with Hemsworth fully looking the part by then.

Gotta love these Thor tribute videos. That build up gave me chills.

Nice! I need to get that.

Solid advice from Spidey, I reckon it holds true in the MCU:

Well, Endgame happened.

I'm not a fan of the film in general because of the messy time travel plot but man did I hate what they did to Thor.

I was hoping for a few new feats and cool moments for him, hopefully a cathartic rematch against Thanos and worst case scenario to see him go down fighting. Instead we got Thor abandoning what's left of his people to become an overweight, alcoholic slob who's the butt of half the film's jokes. And yet he's still somehow worthy.

If they wanted to make him weaker and more vulnerable there were far better ways they could've done that.
  • He could've lost Stormbreaker and/or been grievously wounded in the opening fight with Thanos (a fight that could've ended with Thanos destroying the stones)
  • He could be so traumatised by Ragnarok/Infinity War that he can't control his lightning and becomes an MCU version of unworthy Thor.
  • Hell, even if they'd had him go off the rails Iron Man 2 style (i.e. without becoming a fat slob for the entire film) it wouldn't have been as bad.

At this point I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to seeing him in Guardians 3.

Yes us Thor fans just took a mean blow to the chops, nothing we can't bounce back from though.

On the bright side here a few good things that happened in Endgame.

1. Thor killed a badly injured 2019 Thanos by chopping off his arm then his head. Proving Stormbreaker is powerful enough actually kill Thanos despite his immense durability.

2. Thor's talk with Frigga

3. Hemsworth's acting was superb

4. We got to see Thor wield Mjolnir and Stormbreaker at the same time.

5. Thor summoned lighting through himself and shot it out of Mjolnir and Stormbreaker simultaneously to power up Iron Man's plasma blaster.

6. Thor accidently one shot KO'd Iron Man in his Nano Tech armor with Mjolnir. It was a clear no questions asked onscreen KO too, we actually saw Tony Stark's go unconscious and Friday yell "Boss wake up!"

7. Thor stalemated Thanos when they clashed weapons and preceeded to disarm him (Thanos pummeled him soon after though).

5. When trying to keep Thanos from the gauntlet Thor hit Thanos twice, once with Mjolnir and another with Stormbreaker. Then Thor proceeded to overpower Thanos with Stormbreaker then called Mjolnir to reinforce Stormbreaker causing Thanos to fall down to both knees. Captain America came and jump on Thanos's back at the end but wasn't really much of a help, eventually Thanos broke free by outmaneuvering them (not with brute strength) but it's still cool nonetheless.

There are plenty of moments in AEG that will become instant classics for Thor.
Can't wait to have HD versions of certain scenes, moments... Those genius that come up with amazing Thor content like Youtube compilations... will have a field day with some of his stuff in AEG.

One particular moment has actually entered my Top 3 best MCU moments ever for Thor.
Armoring up while summoning Stormbreaker and Mjolnir. 10 seconds of greatness.

I'll have to update this after AEG.
Or maybe i should just do a Top 10 instead.

Thor seriously leveled up in both Ragnarok and Infinity War.
His epicness level has increased significantly in comparison to the other movies. Thor, Avengers, Thor: TDW and Avengers: AOU have all had some good stuff sprinkled throughout, but nothing really on the scale of what these last 2 MCU installment have given us...

Here's my Top 5 scenes from the last 2 movies Thor showed up in.

1. Thor unleashes his true power.
This whole scene is epic and the Immigrant Song takes it to another level. From Thor hitting Hela with the biggest lighting bolt ever, to him landing on the bifrost bridge, to the inventive and surprising use of his powers... MCU greatness.

2. Thor arrives on Wakanda.
Best entrance ever in the MCU. When the Avengers where against the ropes and in a dire situation here comes Thor, his friend tree and a sweet rabbit. The Bifrost beaming them in, Stormbreaker cleaning the battlefield, "Bring me Thanos!", the powered up jump with the hovering sound and the strike with Stormbreaker. The scene scored with the Avengers theme. Cinematic history.

3. Thor's talk with Rocket.

The single best bit of acting from CH as Thor. Beautiful written dialogue performed expertly by a grieving Thor. The impact of this moment is massive because we know what he has been through and we understand how much he has lost. A 1500 year old god shedding a tear while trying to make light of his desperate situation. It's a touching, tragic, sad and yet funny scene.

4. Thor escapes Muspelheim.
This whole sequence is absolute gold for us Thor fans. We see Surtur interacting with Thor, the way Mjolnir is used coupled with the expert use of the Immigrant Song makes for some pretty legendary stuff. Then to cap it all of we have the fire dragon chase...

tumblr_p2z5cu2eg11x14uxso8_540.gif

5. Thor awakes his power against the Hulk.

There's no rivalry like this one. We finally saw them facing each other in a arena. After some incredible moves and exchange of blows, Thor is against the ropes until he taps into the source of his power and turns the tables on the fight. "So, ah, you're welcome. And, uh, it's a tie."

At first after seeing Endgame, I was pretty upset with Thor's power level, but after some consideration and rewatches of leaked footage, he's actually not as weak in the climax as I initially perceived (though nothing like IW power levels), though he still gets rear-ended pretty badly.

He tussles with Thanos three times: Thanos never overpowers him in any of these instances, rather he simply has better leverage and is probably the better fighter. Not only did he bring Thanos to his knees in one instance, but consider the part where Thanos has him cornered against a rock and is digging Stormbreaker into his chest: Thor is withstanding the full strength of an enraged Thanos with his hands only, all while being in the weaker position leverage-wise.

Thanos was throwing everybody around like they were ragdolls in this movie, Thor was withstanding this at the very least, not to mention that this Thor is clearly much weaker than he was previously. Captain Marvel, by comparison, was clearly using her full power to do more-or-less the same thing.

But Thor? It was all him, and he was a joke power-wise to his previous incarnations. IW Thor would have destroyed Thanos in this movie. The movie was still a mess, but at least I am less pissed-off now than I was before

------

In regards to Captain Marvel's comparable power... Thor did the exact same thing to Thanos' ships in Infinity War: who's to say he couldn't do it here too at his full power? Not to mention, her power essentially comes from the fact that she operates like a beam of light which can cut through almost anything, but Thor almost certainly has better static strength: Captain Marvel could not likely move the rings and withstand the power of the star in the same method that Thor did because her power simply does not work that way. Thor is STRONGER, period. Note that stronger =/= more powerful, because in some regards, even Doctor Strange and Scarlett Witch are more "powerful" than Thor, but they'd both get desecrated in seconds by coming into contact with even a fraction of what Thor's durability has withstood before.

Eh... Carol has great physical strength. Sorry but her feats are shown to be about physical abilities and toughness. On top of that she has her energy based powers.

I love Thor. They leaned too heavily into humor in AEG. But he still had a good showing. And whether comics or film he has never been one to one punch Thanos. And neither did Carol in AEG. Thanos was fighting just about everybody one after another. Thor wasn't ending him solo. Carol wasn't. And this is consistent with the comics and the MCU.
