Marvel Films MCU Thunderbolts - Team suggestions?

They should include Songbird to spice it up.

The team they are currently teasing (based from the scenes in the movies and shows) isn't very eXciting. Like the Suicide Squad the movies have more interesting rosters compare to this.

Abomination
Black Widow (Yelena Belova)
Bullseye
Ghost
Taskmaster
US Agent
Zemo

This seems likely. I do wonder if Justin Hammer might factor into things, though they might just put him in Armor Wars. And also if they'll have a Thor-type in the mix as well. Valkyrie seems possible to me.

Also wondering if Duquesne shows up again here.

I'm still not at all sure on how Taskmaster and Yelena would actually wind up on such a team. Yelena's already defied Valentina's mission because she realized Valentina lied about Clint being responsible for Nat's death. And Taskmaster is off with the other Widows and very motivated to never be under anyone's control again.

There's always blackmail.

Just for fun, I thought I'd go through every iteration of the Thunderbolts and see which members from there have appeared or will appear in the MCU and adjacent properties and what their current status is.

Characters in Green Bold are feasibly alive in the main MCU without rights issues
Characters in Light Green Bold are rumored to show up in an upcoming MCU project without rights issues
Characters in Red are feasibly alive in the MCU if you also count the Netflix shows
Characters in Dark Blue are feasibly alive in the MCU but may have rights issues with Sony

Characters in Light Blue are feasibly alive if you count non-Netflix Marvel Television shows

Another possibility is that Yelena has turned against Val, and is working for some other government muckity-muck to nail Val for corruption or treason.

Hammer will surely appear in Armor Wars. A cameo in this wouldn't go amiss though. Rockwell cracks me up as the character. :D

There should at least be 2 new faces Imo. I feel like this team needs more, as the ones introduced in previous films/shows imo won't be enough to really get the interest of the masses.

Like seriously, they have to do more for a film featuring Val, Yelena, Zemo, US Agent, Ghost and Abomination. Those siX aren't enough imo. This is like Marvel's attempt for a Suicide Squad but without the star power.

I expect Yelena to be in this but she will at some point go against the team if not from the start.

hope they bring back Taskmaster, but this time with a more skulllike mask

I thought Taskmaster was weak. I'd rather see someone else.
Honestly Taskmaster is such a blank slate by the end of Black Widow they could do anything with her. I would definitely want to see what Olga Kurylenko can bring to the role when given the chance to actually play her with her real personality instead of merely her face being used for a brainwashed drone. It's honestly not hard to see how to make the character much better.

She drops the Dreykov name because her dad was her abuser, is now Antonia "Toni" Masters, master of her own destiny.

Taskmaster and the Widows struggle to reintegrate into society after a life of being brainwashed soldiers. While happy to live their own lives and form personal relationships, many of them still stay in the business of fighting and become mercenaries. We already saw one of the widows becoming an illegal cage fighter in Macau.

Taskmaster finds purpose training others in her "academy"

It is reiterated that her photographic reflexes are her own skill, while the helmet's HUD is essentially just mission intel + a targeting system like Fallout's V.A.T.S. Essentially, she can copy other peoples' moves perfectly, the helmet is just an extra aid. Hence why she had to personally watch the fight footage. As Dreykov said in BW: "She watches everything and she can do it. She is a perfect mimic".

After finally being freed from the mindcontrol she starts speaking much more and develops a personality much closer to comics Taskmaster

Besides her physical scars, the main lasting problem from her time as Dreykov's puppet is that while she can perfectly remember peoples' moves, she struggles with some memory loss as a consequence of the explosion and subsequent brainwashing.

There. Actual taskmaster.

Something to keep in mind is that "The Thunderbolts As Sketchy Government Black Ops Super Team" is almost certainly not a stable status quo. Based on the source material and general genre awareness, the team will almost certainly explode in Val's face soon enough, and either become an actual independent villain team, or an actual (semi) independent hero team. Or possibly both, concurrent or consecutive.

Which way that Marvel Studios wants this to shake out would have a big effect on the likely roster.

Maybe the plot of that movie is that the Thunderbolts were assembled to fight a Hulk, that got out of control and maybe turned red (since we won’t get a Thunderbolt Ross Red Hulk).
This could be the rumored World War Hulk project, because it’ll sure will be big as almost an Avengers movie.

I rather doubt it, given Banner seems to be an entirely sane and heroic supporting character in She-Hulk. I suspect that the Thunderbolts will be initially assembled to deal with General Rising Super Nonsense, or possibly stuff related to the upcoming Kang events.

Just read the leak for Wakanda Forever
it indicates, that US Agent, Yelena and Ghost were sent by Val to the Antarctica/Savage Land, to obtain the Vibranium in a post credit scene
This would be nice

Abomination
Black Widow (Yelena Belova)
Bullseye
Ghost
Taskmaster
US Agent
Zemo

This is a good roster but I'd like to see a couple other names sprinkled in there as well.

Perhaps a couple members from the comics who haven't appeared in an MCU movie/show yet, but are obscure enough to have been operating under the radar and have avoided detection as of yet.

Hey, aside from Stark, nobody else knew who Spidey was in Civil War either (as far as I remember)!

I'm guessing Wyatt Russell has been contacted about Thunderbolts. He is just playing coy at the moment. It would seem odd not to include John Walker in the Thunderbolts team.

What I’m thinking is a realistic Thunderbolts team.

Baron Zemo
Yelena Belova/Black Widow
John Walker/US Agent
Ava Starr/Ghost
Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster
Emil Blonsky/Abomination

I also think it’s possible we get one or two new characters on the Thunderbolts team.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine oversees the team with John Walker being her righthand man. I have a feeling the film will state that General Ross has passed away and that he was the one who was working on putting the Thunderbolts together. Val was his recruiter but has now taken over for Ross.

Zemo- The charming, rich guy
US Agent- The good soldier
Yelena- The Russian assassin
Ghost- The stealthy [former] SHIELD agent
Abomination- The big green guy
Songbird- The attractive blonde energy wielder who flies

Nice, tight team that reflects the Avengers original 6

I don't really have any reason to believe this is true, but if it is I wonder
if she'd suit up as Citizen V or Vantage or if she'd just be herself.

That's the route they should go, but I suspect that Val will want an actual alien as her "Thor" and she may want her own version of Iron Man. Just who those two are is unknown.
