Justice League Members of the first justice league movie

Isn't he about twenty years too old to play Cyborg?

Actors regularly play characters who are significantly younger than their age. Plus, Cyborg's age isn't set in....um....stone. :cwink:

Well, he was supposed to be a college kid. I don't think that permits a 40 year old actor. More broadly, I don't see anything in Dwayne that equips him to play that character, other than the proportion of melanin in his skin.

Rock brings a great resume and a charisma that could take a character like Cyborg, who isn't nearly as well know as other JL members, and make him seem like he's on par with them. Moreover, Dwayne has the proportions of a football player, although he's perhaps a bit too muscular now to be specifically a QB. Regardless, the DC character he plays will experience a new level of fame. Why not Cyborg?

Because Cyborg is far younger, and his character is reasonably nuanced and conflicted. I would say that he is one of the more difficult members of the JL to play, since the actor has to portray a sense of regret and emotional vulnerability simultaneously with the competing connotations of being part man and part machine. No disrespect to Dwayne, but I think he is more suited to one of the "lighter", more classical superhero roles. Shazam or Aquaman would be fine.

Eh? Has the character suddenly doubled in age?

Why not use Steel rather than Cyborg, then? Why use Cyborg at all? There are many characters to whom Dwayne is better suited.

You might as well say that Kurt Russel would make a great Robin, because the scriptwriters could make Robin really old to permit the casting.

It's not like saying that, because no one cares about Cyborg. Robin is arguably the third most famous DC character.

And it's not like any actor who portrayed Robin has been age appropriate thus far.

He's been part of the New 52 JL in the comics, and the Flashpoint/War movies. He was an amazing character in war, particularly his transformation scene.

Clearly they do:

And I agree with that- I think Cyborg is a really promising character that fills a valuable niche in the JL and the DCU. I just don't think he's particularly compatible with Dwayne Johnson. I completely endorse the drive to recruit the latter somewhere in the JL, but I really don't think Cyborg is the smartest vehicle for that.

Anybody who uses a superhero message board is an outlier. We don't matter as a percentage of the total intended audience.

No, but nor does anyone really know what they think, nor, as fans, do I see why that should be our concern. "The GA doesn't care" isn't a very convincing positive argument for anything.

If we only concerned ourselves with what we wanted there'd be entire websites devoted to us *****ing about films.

Wait... Never mind.

But here's an allegory: In The Dark Knight trilogy Jonathan Crane was about 15 years too young, Ra's Al Ghul about 500 years too young, Robin was probably 8-ish years too old and Bane thirty years too old. Does anybody actually care? And if they do, do you take their concerns seriously?

Cyborg isn't defined by his actual age other than how it used to make him a member of the Teen Titans.

:funny:

I don't really accept the analogies you made, except for Robin, who's inclusion in TDKR was so half-arsed that it seems irrelevant.

Cyborg's age is much more significant than a qualification for him to join the Titans. He is, at his core, a young man who has been robbed of his whole natural life. His sentiments of duty and despair run together, and make him one of the more interesting characters in the current JL (not that there's much competition).

I got from someone another thread or website
green lanterns awesome feats dealing with black holes

Keep in mind the green lantern/s were able to move the earth and moon or moons by themselfs pre-crisis.

Action Comics 261: Superman moves a star with a puff of Super Breath.

I fully disagree. It's comic fans who create the initial desire for an adaptation to be made. They are also the ones most likely to buy the special edition DVDs and expensive collectible tie-ins to the movie. The last thing a studio wants is a negative buzz going around the internet/social media from fans already familiar with the characters.

Co-signed.

Why can't he just be an older version of that? Rather than being a school football player, he was a pro. Instead of being too young to have wanted to start a family, he was too busy, and when he has the time, boom. Made of metal.

It doesn't really matter. Like you said, he could be Steel, or even a fusion of the two, or even completely unrelated.

Well in that case Batman Vs Superman better not be made.

in summary, then, you just want to see Dwayne Johnson in a movie, and believe its content or appurtenance to the source material is otherwise irrelevant.

We won't agree.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, GL of course. I don't know how many would be the ideal number for a 1st film but if the others are introduced for the 1st time in a JL film I wouldn't want many more. Martian Manhunter is the one I really want.

When did I say I wanted The Rock in the film? I'm merely resigned to the fact he says he is.

Part of me thinks they'll just use the Big 5, but then I wonder if that's missing an opportunity. If Warner Bumbles is employing a multi-movie plan at long last, the strategy *might* be to use SvB as the introduction to the new Bats/Wondy for the purpose of adding another 3-4 heroes in JL.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Green Lantern/John Stewart
Aquaman

Then Martian Manhunter later on in JL2
Or he could even be in JL1 , depends on how many characters they can pull off. At this point, I'm really hoping for the best for this cinematic universe, but I have far more faith in Whedons vision, and that hurts to say, coming from a Dc fan

As a DC fan I sometimes find myself trying to hate on Marvel Studios even though deep deep down I really enjoy their movies and I really want them to succeed.

I also noticed that we keep using Avengers as a benchmark and a comparison even though superhero team-ups have already been shown on the full screen via the X-Men franchise, FF, and the Incredibles.

Hopefully DOFP can also show us another way a large scale epic superhero team-up can be pulled off.
