"Merging of Brands"?

GOTG/Avengers isn't even remotely a "merging of brands." Nor is it "something really big that people have been talking about for a long time." Trying to say GOTG is a separate "brand" from Avengers is like saying Captain America is a separate "brand" from Iron Man, or Hulk, or Thor; in which case we've already had a "merging of 'brands'" in 2012, making that point totally moot.

Separate titles under the Marvel Studios heading is *not* the same thing as separate brands that would require a "merger."

Examples of separate brands, as far as Marvel Studios is concerned: Spider-Man. X-Men. Fantastic Four. Namor (currently still farmed out to Universal). Star Wars. Disney/Pixar properties. Riddick, or other Vin properties. Hell....even *DC Comics.*

How would a Pixar/MCU combo work anyway?

Aren't they doing a Pixar Marvel movie called Big Hero 6.

Perhaps that will take place in the MCU and that will be a merging of Live-Action and animation

Big Hero 6 is based on the Marvel Comics, yes, but it won't have the Marvel Logo, so it won't count within MCU.

Who even knows how Vin defines "brand"

Menounos' reaction is pretty telling. Even *she* realized Vin was dropping a bombshell, and then he fake-shushes her afterward when she says that she thinks she knows what he's talking about. They both realized that he was probably saying more than Marvel wanted him to say. Seems pretty clear that Vin knew damn well what he was saying.

He could simply mean that the GOTG brand will merge with the Avengers brand in a crossover.

Perhaps he defines each of those as a brand

I don't know how Pixar and MCU can work. However, if it turns out that the merging of brands is Pixar and Marvel Studios, it would be very interesting. I think for it to fit into MCU, Pixar would have to make the characters similar to Groot and Rocket Raccoon and make it somewhat realistic to the general audience in regards to MCU.

I still think it's Cosmic Marvel and the Avengers merging.

Thats exactly what he means. I swear some people read too much into thing.

If A) Vin is in talks to play the role of Black Bolt in an Inhumans film

and B) the origin of the Maximoff twins in the MCU is that they are Inhumans than

C) the merging of brands could be Avengers/Inhumans, with the Maximoff twins playing major roles in both franchises.

That would be pretty dope Zarex.

Starting Inhumans in Phase 3 much like GotG in Phase 2 is such an intelligent move. Marketing-wise, creating a third team of action figures to sell. Franchise-wise, branching off into yet another sector of the MCU. Truly. Some cool stuff.

Also Vin as both Groot (one spoken line with different inflections and so much cgi it doesnt matter) as well as Black Bolt (few if any spoken lines and a head to toe costume) is so perfect I can't even explain.

a) Why the hell would GOTG and Avengers be considered separate brands? and
b) How has "everyone been talking about this for a long time?" and
c) How is GOTG/Avengers considered "something big?" and
d) Which one is considered "the new IP" for 2016 --- GOTG ("new" in 2014) or Avengers ("new" in 2012)? and
e) Where would Vin Diesel fit into this? Thanos? HELL no. If he was playing Thanos, he wouldn't be voice-acting Groot in the same damn movie next year, and we'd already have PLENTY of media hype announcing that Vin was, in fact, cast as the Mad Titan. Thanos shows up next year in GOTG, and it sure as hell isn't going to be Vin Diesel in that role. 110% guaranteed.

There's a lot of possibilities for what Vin has been talking about when he discusses being in a new Marvel IP in 2016, and being part of a merging of brands of sorts way, way down the road; but "merging" existing Marvel Studios titles that will already be old news by 2016 is most definitely NOT what he's talking about. I swear, some people don't bother reading enough into things.

Fast Furious v Riddick v Star Wars v Pirates v Avengers v Fantastic Four v Mickey Mouse v X Men

Because Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy are separate brands by principle. Different properties that will most likely never have interacted and involve two completely different parts of the Marvel universe.

Exactly. GOTG is considered "Cosmic Marvel" like the Nova Corps or even Thanos, Avengers is "Earth Marvel" as that's where most of the characters are located more or less (Thor being a small exception).

In theory they would never meet, unless a crossover happened.

Plus, GOTG apparently takes place in a completely different galaxy far from Earth. Starlord hasn't been back to Earth since he left in the 1980's, and the others may NEVER have been there. Sounds like different brands to me.

Exactly...again.

In the comics right now the GOTG have a singular mission statement "No one reaches Earth." That includes them (outside of Iron Man).

Marvel has treated these as different brands in the comics as they have done mega story-arcs with both Cosmic Marvel and Earth Marvel.

Drax was once human, or at least his spirit was.

Marvel and SONY working together

I don't think a GOTG/Avengers cross-over could work...

Except for the fact that Iron Man is in the current incarnation of GOTG.
Except for the fact that the comic-book GOTG very definitely exist in the greater 616 universe as a whole.
Except for the fact that Star-Lord, Drax, Moondragon, Jack Flag, Tony Stark and even Adam Warlock come from 616 Earth.
Except for the fact that MCU Thanos definitely provides linkage between "both" parts of the MCU already. As do Thor and the rest of the Asgardians, and all the other alien gods in the Nine Realms.
Except for the fact that the rumormongers who correctly ID'ed the actual cast of GOTG also stated flatly that John C Reilly's Rhomann Dey character is a liaison to SHIELD and answers to Nick Fury.

These "separate" parts of the MCU already coexist. There is nothing there to "merge"......since they're already one and the same universe.

I will lose my s*** if it's Spidey in the Avengers

I don't think a GOTG/Avengers cross-over could work...

And, there's the fact that Joss Whedon has specifically denied there'll ever be a crossover between GOTG and Avengers.

We’re following Guardians at Shepperton [Studios, with Avengers 2] but we won’t be swapping cast members. Every movie is its own thing and has to be. Unless I take a lot of peyote and write a very different draft… and I’m not ruling that out.

Yes, because filmmakers NEVER lie to cover up future stories or twist, right.
