xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

$20M? Not exactly setting the world on fire. It looks like the international market will help save some costs, but this thing will be lucky to break $50 in the US.

The only person clamoring for the return of the Xander Cage character... was Vin Diesel. And why is beyond me. Cage always struck me as a lite knockoff of Toretto.

My grandad went past the cinemas and saw the title and thought it was a porn movie. He came back and said to me "Since when did they start letting adult movies be shown in regular cinema screens?". :funny:

I'd argue, despite making pretty good coin, the first xXx was what tanked Diesel's career for a near decade more than Chronicles of Riddick. It was dated before the end credits of the midnight screening and turned a lot of people against him. All of a sudden the cool new action star, anti hero on the block was a Von Dutch/Ed Hardy wearing *****ebag.

Nailed it.

Vin seems like an ok guy, but outside of F&F, and I guess maybe Guardians, which is a stretch, he can't open a movie.

He had way too many lines in this movie. The dude is really limited to short sentences with one tone.

I saw it on Monday and had fun, it doesn't try to take itself seriously and is all the better for it, it's like a live action cartoon with some cool action, goregous Ladies and Vin liberally dropping cheesy one liners left and right.

The first film was supposed to be James Bond for the X Games/Hip hop generation, this one is more like Mission Impossible with 2 xXx teams. Of all the new characters Donnie Yen was cool as always but Tony Jaa is underused and the 2 standouts were Ruby Rose and Deepika Padukone.

The [BLACKOUT]Ice Cube[/BLACKOUT] cameo was really well executed, great song choice as well. :D

the movie had a pretty good BO weekend though

There's nothing good about starting off with $20 million on an $85 million budget, of which the marketing almost assuredly pushed expenses well past $100 million.

Right now the worldwide total sits at $131 million. This is definitely, definitely a flop.

Vin Diesel’s ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ Tops $100 Million in China in Six Days

Vin Diesel’s action sequel “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” has grossed $102 million in its first six days at the Chinese box office.

“Return of Xander Cage” has totaled $272.3 million worldwide for Paramount Pictures and Revolution Studios. Diesel reprises his character in the movie as government operative Xander Cage from the 2002 movie “XXX.” The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose, Kris Wu, and Nina Dobrev. The film had an $85 million budget.

The Diesel film grossed $61.9 million in China over the weekend, marking the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in February. The opening weekend tripled the U.S. launch, which generated $20.1 million during Jan. 20-22 and it’s now at $43.7 million after four weeks.

Chinese companies Huahua Media and Shanghai Film Group announced an investment into “Return of Xander Cage” on Jan. 17, two days before the announcement of their three-year $1 billion slate financing deal with Paramount.

Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, said, “We join our collaborators Huahua Media, Shanghai Film Group and 1905 in celebrating the great success of ‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’ in China. We are especially pleased as this opening is our first Chinese market release with Shanghai Film Group and Huahua since the recent signing of our long term collaboration agreement.''

I'm not surprised. You can always rely on the Chinese and their taste for explosions and CG spectacle to pick up the slack.

Well, the movie also have some big Chinese stars in it, which obviously helps in that market.

Donnie Yen was in Rogue One and the film still flopped in China. Vin is a big draw in China, maybe Disney will put him in a Star Wars film.

If I remember correctly in the first movie his character was some sort of extreme sports type turned spy.

Which is why I had no real interest in this one because at his age of 49 I just do not buy into it for some reason. Also except for the first and last Pitch Black movies where he does not have much dialog I can not really stand him.

FF I can take or leave no real opinion except they have gotten out of control for a bunch of street racing dudes.

So I finally watched this.

Vin Diesel gave himself a 100million handjob with this movie.

Sweet lawd.

Ego strokin every 5 min or so. lol

This felt like a straight up comedy to me.

I was never bored tho.

I just imagine Vin in an empty theater laughing at his own issh, and thinking it is good.

wait's to hear the scream's of horror

Because I want to see Donnie Yen tear **** up in a big budget film, that's why.

Didn't expect to hear that a fourth film was coming. Did anyone see this movie?
