Looks like its official now

I'm all the way in. The first "xXx" was a favorite of mine. Wasn't too crazy about the sequel. But hopefully whoever is attached to direct does a good job. I'd love Rob Cohen to return.

I don't care for either of them, but I'll go see it simply because it's Vin Diesel.

I'll do it for Dominic Toretto.

Thats probably what they want. Just make it look like a FF movie and people will think its the same. Maybe even throw in a few cast members.

I never was crazy about the first and didn't bother with the second. I like xXx mostly for the beautiful European locations. Maybe if they get the Crank guys to direct and base it around insane stunts I'd get really interested. But Vin ususally delivers solid stuff either way.

I still haven't seen the second. I remember how after the first one, media was saying this was the new type of spy film we should be getting.

Part 2 was tainted when they directed Lee Tamahori the director of die another day. He was also arrested for dressing up as a woman and soliciting a police officer.

I was 16 when xXx came out and I thought it was the dog's bollocks. Haven't seen it for a long time though. Even had the poster on my wall. Yeesh. :funny:

That Gavin Rossdale song was pretty good though.

I enjoyed the first film. Sure it was big, dumb, and stupid, but in a fun way. And the FF films are big, dumb, and stupid, but I like most of them as well. It's biggest issue ironically was the idea that you needed an "extreme sports" guy because James Bond couldn't hack it. James Bond has done pretty much every kind of extreme sport that there is at one point or another.

The less said about the sequel the better. It was a mess. How ironic that the same director (Lee Tamahori) essentially killed the xXx franchise for over a decade and damaged the Bond franchise (with Die Another Day) so badly that they needed to reboot the entire series after TWENTY movies over FORTY YEARS!!

Yeah they mention briefly that he was "killed in Bora Bora." And later on proto-Nick Fury claims that he's dead as well. But we never actually SEE it, and a lot of the people who worked on the first film didn't work on the second (including Vin). So they'll likely either ignore it, or provide some kind of quick explanation for him still being alive (he faked his death or something).

No I believe there was a mini short film before the second. It shows the back of a bald guy entering the villain's club. Then you see the building blow up and the the only thing left is a piece of skin that has the XxX tattoo implying he's dead.

Anyway I think this is a pass. If I want "extreme" stunts then Mission Impossible will top this any day of the week.

I'll gladly give this a shot. I always thought Vin made a mistake refusing to do sequels to this (and F&F initially) and instead opting to do that awful Chronicles of Riddick film. Of course, the second xXx was f***ing terrible (like, it's in the running for worst film ever made) but maybe it would have been better had Vin and Cohen returned.

Anyway, I'll gladly check this film out unless it looks awful. I'd love to see Asia Argento come back, though that probably won't happen since spy movies tend to dump the love interest in further installments.

These are both true. The bald guy was also a very obvious stunt double and the short was ridiculously filmed. He was seen going into a hotel room and then blown up.

I recall reading (but can't find a source) the reason it was done is I forget who but since Vin Diesel wasn't coming back they killed him off in a petty, vindictive manner. The petty part might be someone's personal opinion but it was done to write off the character so as to explain why they needed a "new" XXX.

I just hope that Vin returns as Xander Cage and not Dominic Toretto. Xander was a fun extreme sports loving junkie. Dom...not so much.

Xander..was an awful character. I love Vin and all, but he needs to let this one die.

Yeah, it was a classic case of "the first guy didn't come back, but we've got someone NEW who is SO MUCH COOLER AND MORE BADASS!" I hate when sequels and TV shows do that sort of crap. If you have to explicitly state how much better your new character was than the person they replaced, your new character most likely sucks.

It is indeed rare you replace an existing actor with a superior actor in a franchise like that. There are always a few exceptions but most of the time the replacement guy is inferior to the original.

I have been wait for this, for a long time...the thing is the extreme sports game has changed a lot in the last decade. Its definitely become more mainstream, I wonder if they will incorporate that into the story.

You know the history of sports like freestyle motorcross had roots in the meth trade and Aryan brotherhood, they were created by wild men bad boys, whatever you want to call them. now people like pastrana and deegan are born again christians who wont touch anything that could harm their image and detract from what has become a million dollar franchise.

I'm sorry, I like Ice Cube and all. But trying to make me by that freaking Ice Cube is a more badass action hero than Vin Diesel was laughably absurd. Heck they even went so far as to have proto-Fury try that "tiger in the zoo" speech that worked on Vin, and then have Ice Cube mock it. You're trying way too hard movie.

Also, that movie tried to beat you over the head with how "black" it was. By which I mean it shoved every single stereotype/cliché about Black people possible into a single film. "Awkward" doesn't even begin to describe it.

I think Ice Cube does better as a comedic actor than an action star and I think he realized that too.
