** Metal ** The Thread! II

I decided to skip them on this tour even though I haven't seen them since Dead End Kings or Fall of Hearts (I forget which tour). Love the band but they have been on a downward spiral for me and I think their newest one is their weakest album (sadly) and City Burials is their 2nd weakest. Sky Void of Stars was slightly better but still in the bottom third of their discography.

It's a shame because their earlier stuff is so great and I consider Last Fair Deal > Viva Emptiness > Great Cold Distance > Night is the New Day > Dead End Kings to be such a great run.
Great Cold Distance is probably the last album I listened from them. It sounded like a mix of Tool and Opeth. I'll have to give it another listen.

First two albums are easily their best for me.

Brave Murder Day is wonderful but it feels more like a weird Opeth collab than a Katatonia album to me (I guess for obvious reasons). I like the debut too but the band doesn't really feel like Katatonia until they start morphing their sound leaving those death metal roots behind and become more of that doomy alternative metal with strong melancholic goth vibes.

I'll have to give another listen to their albums between BMD and TGCD.

I'm seeing Lacuna Coil live next week so currently in binge mode. While I do like their newer albums it feels like a crime not to play anything before Shallow Life. I got into the band through Unleashed Memories, Comalies and Karmacode and not getting anything from them feels a bit... RIP.

Yeah I enjoyed their early albums when they used to play gothic metal. I jumped off the train when they started their alternative metal era after Karmacode.

Enjoy the show! I saw them for the first time opening for Machine Head earlier this year. Cristina still has a rocking voice. 🤘

Honestly? Poppy has been growing on me. Maybe I'm just old now... :funny:

I'll probably catch her on her next tour here.

I'd rather live in a world where Poppy and Electric Callboy are around doing their genre mashups than having to listen to Sleep Token and some other milquetoasts win awards.

Evanescence teases December 1 announcement with Spiritbox, Poppy, and K.Flay, who Amy Lee has all collaborated with in the past.

Most recently Evanescence just finished a tour of Australia with Metallica. And Poppy was touring South America with Linkin Park.

Seattle Times - Soundgarden Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction was an emotional tribute

I'd be down with an Evanescence + Poppy + Spiritbox tour.
