I picked it up and have played some of it.
A lot of people have complained about how they handle you upgrading your suit. In previous games, you just started with nothing and went hunting for it. In this, Adam authorizes you to use them at certain points. Some reviews have *****ed over this. After playing it, it's nitpicking at it's worst. First, you don't start the game with every single item, just bombs, missiles, and power bombs. Adam tells you that you can't use any of that. But within 10-15 min, you can use bombs and missiles and he explains why you still can't use power bombs (too destructive). I do think you have to deactivate your Varia suit and just use your Power suit but that's the only thing to complain about.
Using the d-pad in a 3D plane hasn't been bad, takes some getting used to. It is a bit difficult to be precise but you don't need to be since you auto-lock in 2D. Switching to first-person is flawless. Only thing I hate is you have to hold B to move your view, you can't just move the cursor to the sides. Also, you have to move your cursor over the enemy and let it lock for a second before firing your missile. I would have preferred you press B to fire missiles. But you get used to it.
I've gotten 2 items new to the series. An upgrade that shortens the time it takes to charge your blaster and the Diffusion Beam. When you have a fully charged blast, it will spread upon hitting an enemy. Very useful on swarms.
The complaints about the story are nitpicky. Samus at times comes across as verbose and melodramatic. There's a good amount of cutscenes early on but it's not as frequent later.
Of course this being a Team Ninja game, Samus looks good in her Zero Suit but nothing over the top.
