Miami Vice

Do you know the meaning of the phrase "director's cut?" As in deleted scenes are being reinserted right now!

I thought the movie was a mediocre mess.

Plot holes you could drive a truck through.

The mole is never even revealed. Sloppy and lazy storytelling.

I think this movie cements that Colin Farrell sucks as a lead actor. He's not a draw either. Why does Hollywood think he is?

yeah.

plus, there was so little action, and a stupid plot.

Deleted scenes are gonna be good.
I do agree with Vile's thing about
the mole not being revealed.

...a way better sequel would be nice, but with that b/o, it ain't gonna happen.

I don't get why some people like this movie. It was pretty incoherent.

Collateral was a solid and pretty complete movie.

Miami Vice, I feel like Mann was a little drunk on himself and the movie looked really indulgent at times.

Gong Li? Half the time I didn't believe she even understood the English she was speaking.

Were in denial :O

Why would the mole have to be revealed? It'd just be someone we didn't know, and didn't give a s**t about. Rico and Sonny's job was to find out which department the mole is in, which they did. It's out of their hands now. What are they gonna do, investigate FBI HQ themselves? That's not the job of the Miami-Dade Vice Unit.

I thought it maked Rico and Sonny look stupid. Getting into the job knowing there was a mole that could get them killed and expose them.

And whether they knew who it was or not, it was a significant element that went nowhere.

"There's a mole. We don't know who it is or what department it came from. But there is a mole."

How do we know the mole wasn't someone in the movie? The movie was such a mess and so bad it never even got to that.

In fact the movie itself at the end felt like it was missing an act. People walking out of the theatre were saying, "Don't tell me you thought that was the end."

Collateral this was not. There was a solid and complete cinematic experience. This was just a muddled mess.

I love Michael Mann, but this one was a huge let down.
And what's with the over usage of Audioslave?

He used it like 3 or 4 times.

And he used them in Collateral.

1 - The mole wouldn't be able to expose them, seeing as how no one knew that Fujima recruited two Miami-Dade Narcs, and MDPD wasn't a part of the task-force.

2 - They discovered that the mole was from FBI Washington. That was their assignment.

3 - No one in the film operated out of FBI Washington. This is how we know the mole wasn't someone in the movie.

I like Michael Mann as well. That's why this is just all the more disappointing.

Sign of lazy screenwriting:

The shower love scenes.

1. This is disregarding that Fujima maybe, just maybe could've been the mole. Hey maybe he was. Or maybe someone could've found out from Fujima. Someone close to him. Stop making excuses for bad writing.

2. I never even remember this happening, but this is how incomprehensible the film was.

3. They kept on making hints about the mole and used it as a device of suspense and peril for Sonny and Rico. They threw it in the trash.

I guess he's an Audioslave kinda guy. :o

Directors pull this all of the time. He used Miami Vice to experiment with his technique. He amped up the grain from Collateral and tripled the Audioslave.

It's like Tony Scott. Man on Fire worked, then he went crazy on Domino.

I love Audioslave, but even I was going " what the hell?"

I'm not making excuses from bad writing. You're claiming there are plotholes, where there were none. Say what you will about the quality of the film's story, but the plot was tight when it came to holes, or lack thereof.

Yeah, it happened, and I thought it was pretty clear. I guess you did not.

If anything, finding the mole was a subplot. Yeah, it was pretty much thrown to the trash, but it was never really the point anyway. That's what I got from it, and that's pretty much how it ended up.

Mann has never been strong from a narrative point of view. But by god damn has his movies unfolded and looked ****ing brilliant. This is hopefully a light bulb that says "make good scripts and have a good solid story", then tell it with the usual great visuals. All directors, when having a strongpoint (such as Mann's visuals) that backfires because of other weaknesses, have recollected and delivered something next that more than makes up for previous stumblings.

That being said, I am still a Mann fan, as his filmography is about the best there is. I am not going to let one film that registered as merely "good" to me effect how I feel about him as a filmmaker. I look forward to his work.

As much as I love Cornell, expect half of the Mann's next movie's score replaced by Audioslave. :o

Yeah and Domino sucked and tanked. Kinda like Miami Vice.

MV is close to $60m, what is great :) though it won't make more than $100m :(
