Miami Vice

I've watched all three seasons of "The Wire". Very good show, all the characters are interesting and well written. Season 4 looks good from previews i've seen on HBO. Grab it if you have some extra cash. I think HBO is even showing season 1-3 before 4 starts. David Simon also made a six part series called "The Corner". I've only seen the first two eps. It was good from what i saw.
Dammit its a long waiting list on Netflix:mad: I still havent got the first disc yet:(

I heard Miami Vice might be out on DVD for Decemeber.

Supposedly, there's something like 40 minutes of deleted material. I hear that the studio shrunk the film to 2 hours. I think there was supposed to be a boat chase scene that got cut out.

Where did you hear that?

I missed the film in theatres but am really desperate to watch it on DVD. :(

I remember hearing that the film was supposed to be longer than it was. Somewhere around 145 minutes or something. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of footage lying around. I'd love to see it.

Yes, as with most Mann movies, there is a longer cut. The longer cut of Miami Vice that was screened was actually criticized for being too long and not well paced as a result.

Even though the film was a disappointment to me (I still enjoyed it though), I'll be picking up the DVD.

SolidSnake- you're a fan of Michael Mann- do you know if he's ever planning on developing his option for "A Tour Of The City" (the Joe Frank project)?

Don't know either. Supposedly Mann is directing the WW2 Battle of Britain movie starring Tom Cruise. :wow: Can you imagine that?

Link please.

Wow, that one sounds crazy.

Well, I think it's been confirmed that the film was supposed to be alot longer. There was supposed to be a badass boat chase scene, but it got cut.

SolidSnake, I'm guessing that the studio probably cut it themselves. I mean, if it was screened and got criticized....they probably flaked and snipped it.

So, I'd imagine that if you atleast "KINDA" liked the movie.....you MIGHT like the dvd b/c there should be lots of stuff on it. Nothing's official, but why hold out? I'd imagine they'd stuff that thing full.

Btw, I heard Michael Mann reeeeaaalllly wants to do a sequel. Seems he's really passionate about it.

I mean, really.....they could easily make a sequel with a lower budget. I mean, instead of giving Farrell and Foxx (who both rocked, I think) 10 mil....give them atleast a little less. And, set the whole film in Miami. They must have spent quite some dough getting into DR, so just keep it all in Miami.......and schedule the movie around the hurricane season to avoid the delays that happened before (although, it's probably impossible....all year round is practically hurricane season in Miami).

honestly, I don't anyone that I know who wants a Miami Vice sequel since they all were either mixed on it, or just hated it.

Well, I think we'll know for sure when the DVD hits.

I mean, honestly.....with the gas prices, and the prices for the movies....You'll probably end up spending something like 80 bucks just for a date with your girl......it's pretty expensive just to get to movies nowadays, forget about actually spending cash at the place.

So, ALOT of people wait for the DVD's. Really, I only saw 2 movies this summer at the movies.....and they were films I KNEW I'd like. If it's a flick I THINK I might like, pfffftt.....I'll wait for it on DVD. So, I think whatever reactions are on....it could easily change with the DVD.

And if it's about money, DVD sales could be solid too. Most movies nowadays make they're cash there anyways.

Btw....that's one scary ass avatar.

Sure is.

Just scary cool. Like the one goth kid in a southern school. Scary cool.

I'd love a sequel to Miami Vice. It would just be better all around, like continuing episodes. Hopefully Mann will get a little better footing witht the story and character aspects this time, instead of being so in love with the visuals.

From what I understand, Mann's editing process is somewhat...chaotic. Supposedly he throws himself into the editing and just keeps on and keeps on, and he really lives by the "editing makes or breaks the film" idea.

I more than "kinda" liked it. I just had very high expectations since it was Mann and also I really dug the trailer. It didn't meet those expectations, but I enjoyed it a lot. I absolutely loved the visuals, and sat there many times in the movie simply awed and taken in by them, more so than the story. I also only saw the film once, and I think I might grow to appreciate the film the more I see it, especially the second time.

I actually think making it more personal would be great. Ya know, more of the real lives of Crockett and Tubbs than the fabricated identities. I mean, if we could see if Crockett is divorced with a son (like he was in the show), and if Ricardo is from New York too and stuff.

More backstory would be great, I think.

And keeping it all in Miami would be key, I think. Just all in Miami.

Yeah, he appears to be the kind of guy that kinda goes by the gut feeling almost.

But, I wonder.....do we know if he edited the final version? Don't studios have the power to just outright get they're editor to go in and cut the film as they see fit?

Yeah, I liked how instead of the pastels...we still got these vibrant and attracting colors.

I dunno, I think the trailer may have done a disservice....the trailer did make it out to be an action film of sorts. I mean, maybe that was the gag almost? Ya know....a film all about fabricated identities and tricking people into buying in it....and then you turn out to be something else. I dunno, artistically....there might be a cool turnaround type of gag there. Kinda crazy almost.

I do imagine the DVD should have tons of extras. It just sounds crazy to me that something even NEAR 40 minutes would get cut......but I think alot of studios have this fear of making long films. I dunno what it is exactly, but there's a feeling of that for sure.

Miami Vice 2 optioned

Producers have announced that Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx may reprise their law enforcing roles for 'Miami Vice 2'.

The original film, which was directed by Michael Mann and released earlier this year, was panned by critics due to its inability to live up to the high expectations set for it by Universal Pictures.

However, despite the initial setback, Farrell and Foxx have admitted that the process of making it was so much fun that they would agree to a sequel without any hesitation.

A source told LifeStyle Extra, "Colin and Jamie really hit it off on 'Miami Vice' but they were disappointed the film didn't do better,

"They very much want to work together again and they both want another 'Vice'. They feel there is scope for another story."

'Miami Vice' cost a massive $135m to make and will do well to retrieve half of that amount at the box office after a poor opening period - a failure which Mann and his fellow producers seem intent on reversin

I gotta say, I hoping this pans out.

I'd love Vice 2.
I enjoyed Miami Vice, so this will be great.

All I want is more Tubbs and less Crockett.

I haven´t seen the movie yet, but from the trailers you´d have no idea this movie cost 135m, where did that money go?

Pretty good movie. Not amazing or anything (Yes, I know how late this is). It fit the tv show perfectly. Very well done update.

That's a good question. Its hard to tell really. I know they did a lot of location shoots, and that's always expensive. Plus there was production trouble here and there so reshoots and paying the cast/crew additional time.

That's good news about MV2! I look forward to it!

Well, Farrell and Foxx both got 10 million. And Mann got a percentage of the take in as well, apparently the film is really his baby.

Plus, Hurricane Katrina affected it as well. That cost some money b/c of delays. And the location shoots, like SolidSnake mentioned. It cost them money to get there and get on the good side of the governments there. It must have cost them quite a bit to get into the Dominican Republic, in hotspots where there's some turmoil.

That's why I think I think a sequel could really cost alot less. Keeping it in Miami would be huge, I think.

So, this is encouraging. Mann wants to do it, and so do Farrell and Foxx....when you got both leading men and the director in it, it's bound to get done.

I'm hoping Crockett and Tubbs return. I'm too am looking foward to MV2.
