Miami Vice

I haven´t seen the movie yet, but from the trailers you´d have no idea this movie cost 135m, where did that money go?
Im assuming the 40 mins that was cut.

LMAO.....Yeah, that too.

I mean, a ****ing boat chase scene was cut. I don't know if anything exploded or anything....but a boat chase has got to cost some dough atleast. And it got cut.

Everything about this movie confuses me. I saw an early cut back in april and it was a totaly different film. It starts off with a boat race and we meet the vice squad, the snitch, and the pimp. It then jumps to to the club scene where the movie starts. Trudy had more scenes and instead of being kidnapped outside of her home it was inside after she shot one of them(you can see some of this scene in the trailer). The movie ended with a great shot of C&T in a speedboat headed back to cuba to capture montoya.

From what ive heard there seems to be several versions of this movie, I read one review on aicn that had 3 shootouts. One in cuba which I believe because in the HBO special theres a scene with jamie foxx in a suit holding a shotgun hiding behind a house, one in the trailer park(not sure about this one, but apparently in the international trailer theres a shot of C firing his gun at a truck) and the final one at the docks.

Damnnnnnnnnnn.
I am syked for this DVD.

Yeah, the forboden line was a good one that was cut.

There might be a race scene cut out too. I saw the HBO special, and there was a track scene that I didn't see in the movie. Unless that was just training, I dunno.

Thought I'd post some of the rumors sprouting around:

This is from DVD Times:

Over the past decade and a half, American filmmaker Michael Mann has forged a reputation as being a visceral, stylish and absorbing writer/director whose pictures, amongst other things, attempt to dissect the neuroses and attitudes of organised criminals and the actions they undertake. His filmography includes Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Ali, Collateral and - most recently - this year's Miami Vice which is still on general release in cinemas worldwide.

So where now for Mann? His production company Forward Pass is currently developing a trio of projects, ranging in subject matter from a Second World War drama to a political thriller.

The one that has been in development the longest, and will most probably be his next directorial venture, is that aforementioned thriller. Entitled Arms and the Man, it is inspired by a news article by Peter Landesman about Victor Bout, a notorious international arms trafficker. Focusing on an American federal agent's attempts at tracking down some stolen plutonium, the project appears to be - stylistically, at least - a cross between The Insider and Miami Vice. Michael Mann is currently working on the screenplay and will also produce the film for Universal Pictures. A 2008 release date is likely.

The Few is a Second World War drama that Tom Cruise is tentatively slated to star in. It focuses on American pilot Billy Fiske's tenacity at disregarding the USA's then-neutrality in the war and flying Hurricanes against the Germans. John Logan is writing the screenplay, based on the book by Alex Kershaw, but the production might run into problems after Paramount Pictures very recently - and very publicly - severed all ties with Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner. Whether the project will move to another studio or whether Cruise will now be forced to drop out remains unseen.

Mann is also developing Damage Control with regular alumni Jamie Foxx in talks for the lead role. The plot centres on a young lawyer, working for a sports agent, who discovers the consequences of performing the "damage control" on news stories involving some of his favourite athletes. No screenwriter has been announced but the project is set up at Universal Pictures.

Finally, there have been rumours that a sequel to Miami Vice might be greenlit depending on its final box office takings. The film opened at number one in the USA back in July, and although its receipts haven't been as strong as some had expected, it has still performed well and it's been critically well-received in most quarters. However, it seems unlikely that Mann would direct a sequel considering the other projects on his plate and his initial hesitation at directing the first instalment. It seems much more likely that he would just occupy producing duties, and maybe write the screenplay, if the sequel was ever greenlit.

Miami Vice, following Collateral's release pattern, should be released on DVD just before Christmas.

And here's a little more added to the MIAMI VICE 2 OPTIONED thing I posted:

Farrell, Foxx keen to make Miami Vice 2

LONDON: Actors Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx had so much fun making "Miami Vice" that they are now desperate to act in a sequel.

According to contactmusic.com, the two are trying to convince director Michael Mann to make a sequel, saying it would be beneficial to everyone even though the film didn't do too well at the box office.

An informed source said: "Colin and Jamie really hit it off on 'Miami Vice' but they were disappointed the film didn't do better. They very much want to work together again. They feel there is scope for another story."

Ya know, I'm digging how it seems that Farrell and Foxx actually seem to be friends. I mean, they appear to actually be good buddies. And these rumors about them wanting to make a sequel seems to back it up.

I dunno, I find it kinda cool that the dudes playing Crockett and Tubbs are actually friends.

As much as I would love to see a Miami Vice sequel! I really want to see Miachel Mann take on WWII epic more!

Ya know, I'm guessing that the studio.....no matter how well the movie continues to do, b/c apparently....the movie has legs. That's good.

But, I still think the studio will lower the budget atleast a little. Keeping it all in Miami would have to be an enormous part of lowering the budget.

And just like the Season 1 arc of Miami Vice's "Smuggler's Blues" served as the basis for the movie......they can do the same with another arc adapting it for the sequel kinda like they did in the movie.

And let's find out more about Crockett and Tubbs. I don't know how it would work, but a prequel where we see them working together for the first time would be interesting.

Def. keep it in Miami. Tell Foxx sleep-acting through the movie isn't good enough. Lets get some larger scale narratives going on (say for example, something that affects the whole city!) and lets see a bit more characterization.

i don't think i've ever been so bored during a film before....

oh wait, there was that time the week right before where i watched pirates of a carribean 2...

that was a sucky fortnight....

:(

Yeah, backstory would be cool. We kinda got a very little with Sonny, where he talked a bit about his dad.

But, yeah...getting personal would be cool. Where this movie was alot about the false identities they wear.....reverse it with the next and show the real them.

I dunno if I'd dig a prequel. I kinda felt that MIAMI VICE just established that they already are boys. There's a history there and that they are best friends. I think a prequel would just set that back. I think moving foward, ya know....they're partners.....they're brothers...that's all we need to know.....I think that'd be best.

And pretty cool how in some odd way, the pilot movie could easily fit as the story for them too. I mean, obvoiously not that many years ago....but ya know what I mean.

Yeah, moving forward would be the way to go. It just would have been interesting to think how Mann would have adapted their past to the present. Would Tubbs and Crockett had met under the same circumstances? Or would they just be two cops that happen to be partners? I guess that kinda goes back to one of my problems with the film, you don't get a sense of history with the characters so its a little more difficult to buy into the trust they're supposed to have for each other.

I dunno Snake, I think we do get the sense that they do have a history. I mean, it's obvious that they're more than just partners....but friends. Like Sonny being over by Ricardo's place, with Trudy there talking about they're covers. And, right before the night when the proverbial **** hits the fan, he's there for Sonny on the reality that the fake identity is going to come apart. And, the line "I've never doubted you" also adds to it.

I mean, I'll agree....it's kinda subtle. And, I think it's supposed to be.

I like what you're saying. Even though the films aren't too related, to me, Miami Vice had the same vibe as United 93 . Both films plunge you right into something happening in the moment. Backstory relies on subtle details -- no flashbacks or monologues (remember the time we...).

I thought both were terrific.
