Miami Vice

Yeah. I think violence is something that forces people to pay attention and films...lol.

the reason the movie is not good is simply because michael mann went way far up into his arse to see the truth

michael mann is good but miami vice was the most boring and ego driven movie ive ever seen

the dialogue sucked and so did the acting. Colin Farrel was rubbish, and Jamie Foxx was not good either.

The movie just tried to be "cool" by having both its leads mumbling jibberish to each other and a plot line that made no sense.

and to top it off, the music sucked badly.

whats the point of calling it miami vice? they could have called the movie something else because to most people the movie was not what miami vice is.

where was the scenery of miami? where was the beautiful locations of miami?
where was the story? where was the action?

and having a bad guy who looks like the twin brother of "Sayed" from Lost hardly makes sense, lol

I disagree but that's the beauty of opinions and all that

ill tell you why collateral worked,
its because it had a great lead actor in Tom Cruise who bloody well did a good job in it
doesnt get the credit he deserves for that role

anyways

one of the many reasons why miami vice failed as a movie is because to the majority of the world who has watched miami vice the tv series.

its the beautiful locations in miami, the action, the stories, and the styling and look of the show

not to mention, a big factor was the music

not having any of Jan Hammer's themes was frankly a disgrace

its like having a superman movie without john williams theme

no crocketts theme? and no attempt to use any of jan hammers music,

he worked his arse off making amazing synth music for 4 years flat,

its a shame mann didnt have the vision to utilise such an amazing musicians talent

if you want to see what we missed out on, go and buy jan hammer's miami vice ultimate collection 2 cd set or go here to hear his new tracks for the documentary of "Cocaine cowboys".

if they didnt want jan hammer,

they could have at least asked Tim Truman who did the season 5 of the show when he took over after jan hammer left.

listen to tim's tracks here: www.myspace.com/timtruman

sounds better than any drivel heard in miami vice the movie

There was hardly any action in the tv series and the synth music and fashion is very dated,it was a modern take not a copy of something that has been and gone and was of it's time

jan hammers music is not dated

neither is tim trumans

and i hardly call naming the main characters as the same as the show a "modern take"

it has nothing in common with what made the show a success

the movie was boring, up its own arse and thought it was being clever

sorry, but most people didnt find it clever or exciting,

it was dull, drab and climaxed like a failed orgasm

thats how bad it was

probably the worst $10 i ever wasted on,

It was a modern take because everything in the movie including the drugs deals, clothes, cars, music etc were all of this time not dated like Hammer synth music which is a product of the 80's

As for the rest it's all merely your opinion and Box Office is no judge of quality given how much something like X3 made

the whole music in miami vice the movie was crap

dull use of instrumental score,

and the songs sucked too

if you want a proper 2006 update, then why not use updates of the classic songs like crocketts theme?

TQ and the Jan Hammer Project's Crockett theme 2006 remix would have been more appropriate for this movie remake of the show. Hip hop and jan hammer combined, it wipes the floor with any of the movie soundtrack

such a shame mann didnt have the balls to use of any of the shows instrumental material,

http://www.janhammer.com/iTunes.html

Since you don't get opinion i'll leave it

BTW there's an edit option:cwink:

"dated like Hammer synth music "

bollocks!

hammer composed 88 episodes of score, and some of the best instrumental ever made

i doubt you ever even heard any of his stuff thats on ultimate collection

Synth music is of the past and Mann wanted to do something different with the score which is his right but again you seem to think your opinion is fact so lets just leave this,k ?

Anyone know where I can buy cheap HD-movies? After some research Target sells them at 20 bucks a pop.

I thought the plot was pretty easy to follow.

Really, that's the ONLY valid criticism I've read on VICE. The plot needed some thickening, but was rather straight foward.

I thought Farrell did a nice job. He was a much darker and introspective Crockett than Johnson, but I think that's b/c the job was getting to him in the movie.

I dunno.....Yero is latino. Sayed is not.

Doing it exactly like the show would have been too campy. This is a modern take.

And Jan Hammer's music would sound dated by todays standards.

I believe that Crcokett's theme was adapted and inspired the final track in the Miami Vice Soundtrack, At-5000 I believe is the track. The track is is obviously an updated version of Crockett's theme.

I think if it had been set in the 80's....then there's a chance. But, that's kinda not the point of the film.

Personally, I prefer THIS over a parody....like Starsky and Hutch.

There was hardly any action in the tv series and the synth music and fashion is very dated,it was a modern take not a copy of something that has been and gone and was of it's time

Yeah, the TV Series was rather story and character driven. Often, episodes would be dedicated to certain characters. I mean, Switeck even got his own episode for himself where he was dealing with his gambling problems. That's to show you how story driven they were, by being able to focus on one of the background players for an episode and having Sonny and Rico as cameos.

And....really, if they had gone with the old music and reused them...it'd had been lazy.

Mann doesn't seem to be interested in that, either. A modern take sounds more interesting to me, b/c it's something new and ballsy. Just doing the same thing the show did......well, seems kinda point less b/c the show did it.

Jan Hammer's music IS dated. Atleast his music on Miami Vice is. That was in 80's. That was over 20 years ago. It happens.

The movie was rather clever in how deep beneath the surface it was. Boring? It's a crime-drama. Not an action film. Bad Boys II might be more up you alley.....nothing but exploding **** there....

You've obviously never seen Batman and Robin, or Catwoman or Elektra.....

the only thing exciting about the movie was the sex scenes, and they failed too to be honest

failed to be honest? how?

Synth music is of the past and Mann wanted to do something different with the score which is his right but again you seem to think your opinion is fact so lets just leave this,k ?

The idea about VICE.....not the story or anything...but the BASIC IDEA....is having these badass cops being a part of THEIR time. So, if it's the 80's.....they are the badasses of the 80's. With the new movie, they're not in the 80's anymore....so, they're updated like that. Music too. Your right...Mann wanted to do something new. That's ballsy, b/c you just know you'll piss off purists right off the bat.

I think Mann's got balls for doing this movie the way he did. People aren't used to a Miami Vice like this....you're bound to get more crap than gold b/c people aren't going to be open to the concept. Atleast....most people aren't. It'll take time to digest.

Who knows....maybe in a few years, more and more and more people will "get it".

Anyone know what Ratio Miami Vice was shot in?

2.35:1

And I just picked up the DVD at Wal-Mart today. Was gonna wait til Christmas, but it looked so f***ing cool there, I couldn't resist. Probably wont' get to watch all of it before I head to bed, but hopefully the opening chase is good.

Get back to you a little later.

I gotta ask....to alot fo you that felt bored with the flick.

And, I don't mean to sound condesending...so don't take it that way.

But, what were you guys expecting? Were you guys expecting an action film? Were you expecting a Bad Boys II-type film?

Again, I'm not trying to sound condensending at all. I'm wondering what you guys were expecting to see going in.

I didn't want a "modern" version of the Show. Part of the charm of the show was it oozed the 80's...You can make it a period movie and still not make it a parody. And I don't care if the music and theme of the show was "dated"...it's still classic and I love that stuff.
