Michael B Jordan IS Erik Killmonger!

Unless your borderline blind I think you'll be fine differentiating the 2. Their colour schemes are notably distinct.

BPKill_Tcha.jpg

C'mon, other than the color highlights there virtually the same. Keep in mind there moving aggressively in battle. Confusion isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Maybe they'll lose there helmets, or maybe the finished product we'll surprise me.

I'll remain hopeful.

Killmonger's suit design was a bit disappointing since I was hoping for something a little more distinct - maybe more of a reddish hue - but it still makes sense in context, and for what it's worth it is a badass design in of itself.

That said, the conflicting political ideologies are what I find most compelling here, and I think I have an idea for Killmonger's based on a couple of his lines in the trailers we've seen so far. (Granted, this is just my hypothesizing.) More than just being jaded with T'Challa and the royal family given his exile, I think Killmonger's end goal is to actually take Wakanda's resources and - with himself at the helm - wage a war against a global superpower, resetting the world's power structure ("The world's gonna start over; I'mma burn it all!") such that Wakanda becomes the domineering global superpower he thinks it should be. It might even reach beyond that; the new line of dialogue in the international trailer is "This time, we're gonna be on top," which makes me think he might be referring to black people in general by "we", and thus in a way would put him somewhat in the vein of militant black supremacism.

It would make it interesting to see a movie called Black Panther - what with all of that term's political connotations (warranted or not, mostly the latter) - make one of the primary antagonists be a black supremacist-type figure. The MCU's Killmonger's been slated to be an antagonist with an ideology that is supposed to in some ways make the audience actually side with him, or at least seriously question whatever it is T'Challa is trying to work towards, and I think such a worldview as what I'm proposing would be quite compelling if executed properly. You have a guy who was presumably exiled from the country due to the actions of a Dutch/Boer dude who himself thinks that Wakanda exists in hypocrisy - presumably the idea of questioning why Wakanda doesn't share its resources with the rest of the world, or at least Africa - and so if Killmonger actually turns out to have some personal relationship with Klaue, he might've picked up on this idea himself, viewed it through his experience as a black man living in a Western society given all of its history, and come to think Yeah, why doesn't Wakanda help out more, especially other black people?, and from that point on he'll go about trying to write the world as he sees fit. (Which I do think entails that he ultimately turns on Klaue.) If he goes this route, I doubt he'll be giving any racial overtures; it wouldn't be so much **** white people as it would be **** the U.S./Western Europe.

I'm probably wrong on some level - and even though I haven't read the comics, I feel confident in saying that this probably wasn't Killmonger's original ideology - but it's at least one angle that I think could fit well into what's supposed to be a big geopolitical thriller. Plus, it could on a meta-level help divorce Black Panther from incorrect notions of black supremacy. I don't know, what do you think?

When you hear someone answer a "Who's your favorite comic book character?" with a name like Black Bolt, chances are they are pretty serious about comics. I was expecting a generic answer like Spider-man.

He does seem pretty serious since he has done a lot of comic book stuff in his career. He voiced Cyborg in a few animated movies, tried the F4 movie, doing Black Panther. Maybe he will return to the MCU because of his love for comics. Not a comic but he voiced in Gears of War 3 as well.

Nothing to contribute here other than to say I think I'm in love with MBJ in his Killmonger getup. :hmr:

I really wish Marvel Studios would have saved T'Chaka's death for Killmonger/Klaw instead of the weak version of Zemo.

Honestly I'm getting tired of revenge stories. I'm glad T'Challa's motivations in this seem to be more political.

That tripped me out too.
I watched an interview with Ryans Sands from the Runaways and he said his favorite character was Thing and I had a similar response. He's not the generic surface level casual fan choice like Hulk, Spiderman etc.

I wonder what MBJ thinks of the Inhumans show.

Yeah, I prefer the death in CW and I liked Zemo so it wasn't bad. Having it be political/tribal is better.

T'Chaka's death could have been the result of Killmonger's anger over his (or his family's) political exile. It just seems to me that both Klaw and Killmonger might be better MCU characters than the INO version of Zemo, and it's going to be a shame that such an important event in T'Challa's formation was left to a disposable character that isn't centric to the Black Panther mythos.

Just watched Ultorn last night. Couldn't remember, that Klaw has a burned stigma of Wakandian language on his neck. I like it, that he has been known long time as enemy/thief in Wakanda. I think he has been built up as enemy for Black Panther enough.
Also Killmonger as someone who claims the throne without being responsible for killing the king. Don't need a Lion King storyline in there.

I liked that too, but I still wish Klaw had a hand in T'Chaka's death. I don't mind that Marvel Studios has changed his look and part of his back story, but murdering Wakanda's king is integral part of his character and that of T'Challa in the comics. It just doesn't sit well with me that T'Chaka was a casualty of something that happened in Sokovia rather than Wakanda.

I have seen a youtube-video where Killmonger in the golden suit is referred as Golden Jaguar? I'm not familiar with the comics - is there a Golden Jaguar referred in the comics?
I find this very stupid, because a jaguar has nothing to do with african animals. Jaguars only appear in South and Central America. Better refer to him as Golden Leopard - the black panther in real life is also a leopard with black fur. I found something on google, that Killmonger has a leopard as pet in the comics.

He has a regular Panther suit in the comics.

It's labeled "Golden Panther" on the Funko set, so that's probably the official title. "Golden Jaguar" seems to be the title people online came up with.

Regardless, it's not a big deal and doesn't break the movie. Golden Jaguar sounds cooler, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

They should of just made his character Kraven the Hunter,it would of gave Kraven his back story so he could just show up as a Sinister Six member in a spider movie.

Nah. Killmonger is a longtime Black Panther villain. There'd be no point in replacing him with one of Spidey's bad guys. Especially in Panther's first movie.

And why should Kraven be a main villain for the first BP movie?

Why not just have Erik Killmonger replace Kraven in the Spider-Man movie instead?

Is the Michael B Jordan character a Wakandan? He has zero African accent......... He just sounds like himself.....

He might as well be filming Creed 2.....

So is this Killmonger guy adopted?? Raised in the west??? What....

If he's a native Wakandan, I'm truly disappointed in his "mailing it in" .... Even Chadwick learned an accent.... it's called "character acting" ...... Brits play Americans all the time..... Tom Holland and Christian Bale come to mind.

I imagine many watching the trailer are asking themselves this.

I believe his character was raised abroad in the comics. Not sure if it might be the same. MBJ hasn't really spoken about the character as of yet.

Killmonger was raised in America. I find it weird people think that they would somehow forget to give one character an African accent.

Why?? Halle Berry never gave Storm an accent...... I thought maybe they were doing the same thing here.

But I looked him up and it appears his family was exhiled and he grew up in Harlem...... because that's where all black characters go..... LOL!!

Actually Halle Berry gave Storm an accent in the first movie. Not sure what any of that has to do with the people making the Black Panther movie, though.

And movie Killmonger is from Oakland.
