Michael B Jordan IS Erik Killmonger!

Is it too soon to say that some of the cast should be nominated for an Oscar? Namely MBJ, Danai Gurira, Kilmonger’s dad, Andy Serkis...best costume design...

The cast were great but they didn't have enough to do individually to be worthy of Oscars. Costume design sure! Deserves that for the Dora Milaje alone. :woot:

Don't really care about award shows but I can sometimes see why people would think a certain performance "deserves" (for lack of a better term) some type of recognition. Don't see that with Serkis at all in this particular movie.

It'd be lucky if it got a Golden Globe for Best Drama Film.

For costume design and cinematography, I can see award nods.

This is probably the only time I've ever felt the villain's pain and sympathized with him in a CBM. I couldn't root for him because of the way he did things but he had a case.

I wouldn’t say it’s the first time it’s happened in a CBM (Magneto?) but I definitely sympathised with his cause, and even rooted for him at one point.

He was really good, but a little over-hyped. I didn't think he was much better than Vulture or Hela.

Still, remember when people said Marvel had a villain problem?

They started slow but this phase has been all about the villains.

They definitely did have a problem which is why we can see the huge improvement. Compare Vulture, Hela and Killmonger to Whiplash and Malekith. :woot:

I think the problem was overstated. Yeah, Whiplash and Malekith are meh. But outside them, they were giving us serviceable villains (and Loki). Granted, the current crop of villains trump our phase 1 and 2 villains, so now we're getting great villains as opposed to just ones that work.

Red Skull was decent

Obadiah was good.

Killian meh.

Ronan meh would have been a better side villain.

Redford and Bucky were good

Stroll was meh

Serviceable and non-memorable over a large number of films. There's no reason why we didn't get villains of the level we're getting in every recent film now before. If the heroes had been of a similar level to the early villains there would be no MCU now. There was a huge gulf in how good the heroes and villains were and it contributed to many of the early films not regularly achieving being more than good overall too. TWS was a big boost for Cap and part of that was WS being a good villain while IM2 was a big disappointment after the excellent IM and the novelty had worn off a little and not helped by Whiplash being utter ****e! Just glad that they are now achieving high standards for both heroes and villains and the average standard of films is improving in this Phase.

I gotta say, I really liked Ronan.

I think the reason we got serviceable villains basically through phase 1 mostly was Marvel Studios were not experienced as a film company, so they were learning as they were going. I'd also argue the emphasis was on getting us to like the main characters in their solos so The Avengers would work. The villains just were not as high a priority. By that logic, I can see how it developed that way. But, clearly they're learning from past mistakes.

Michael B. Jordan had me wincing during the scenes with his dad.

I wish we got more of how menacing he was. Like from his past. But I'm sure the dvd must have some vital deleted scenes.

They got their priorities right yeah. Getting the heroes right was many times more important given that they are the persistent thread in the universe. And I am glad that at this stage now that the initial risky years are past that they are getting better in other areas too.

Coogler helps Jordan to shine. All 3 films he's done with Coogler, Jordan has proved he has range.

Agreed

I wasn’t a fan of Red Skull, Yellowjacket, Ultron, Killian or Kaecilius either, they weren’t serviceable to me they were below par. So there definitely was a problem.

But give us more villains like Ego, Vulture, Hela and Killmonger and those problems will be a thing of the past and not a criticism people can level at the MCU anymore.

Personally I liked Ronan also.

I happened to like Ego and Ronan too but Ultron was a massive disappointment. :csad:

I sometimes feel like I am the only guy who liked Ultron, LOL! I actually liked him a lot.

Yeah the GOTG villains have been good so for me. I would throw Nebula, Ayesha and yes, Taserface in there as well.

Ultron was SUCH a let down, I thought Whedon would be the last person to mess him up.

You aren’t alone as I have heard of others who like him as well. But as above I found him terribly disappointing.

I gotta say, I really liked Ronan.

Never understood the hate for Ronan.

I don't hate him, but he isn't memorable for me. The GOTG movies are about the team anyways so Ronan was just there as a conflict. I will pay more attention to him in my marathon viewing, but I don't remember anything he did standing out. He had a hammer, talked back to Thanos, had a dance off.

Nebula I liked a lot.

I really thought Ultron was Whedon's dream project which is why I thought AoU was going to be better than Avengers. :(

Just curious, but why are people saying they agree with Killmonger? From what I've read, his whole plan is pretty racist, so I don't get why so many reviewers are saying that he makes a good point?

Because he does make good points. Doesn't mean it doesn't take it extreme places. He is the villain for a reason.
