Michael B Jordan IS Erik Killmonger!

I just can't visualize that.

Hodge as like Brother Voodoo, maybe. He even looks close enough to Mark Anthony Brighton, the actor who played Daniel Drumm in Dr. Strange, as to play his younger brother.

I can, he already has the acting chops along with a deep commanding voice, all he needs is the dreads:

We know from the trailer that at some point they are fighting bare chested, no armor, just weapons.

That still leaves the issue of physical ability. T'Challa is juiced up on SSS-equivalent, even without his suit, the best Killmonger should be able to do is "Batroc vs Cap". Assuming, that is, that Killmonger is baseline human, and doesn't get his own enhancements somehow. Which I imagine he will, given he's supposed to be a combat peer in the comics.

I'm still a little iffy about him from the trailer. I'm walking in with some decent hope that we'll get something good out of this version of Killmonger, but it won't be that same guy from the comics that is basically one of the few people that could beat T'Challa in nearly every step of the way. I'm getting the feeling that he'll be a nice threat like Rumlow in Winter Solider, but not the man that could be a hugely strong villain in a movie by himself. I'm anxious to see what they do because there's so much you can do with Killmonger, and I hope that tap into all of that.

In his place I would have liked to have seen Aldis Hodge as Killmoger.

I remember a few years ago back when a Black Panther movie was still a pipe dream, over on Hudlin's forum there was a "cast the BP movie" thread. Hodge was writer Geoffrey Thorne's (of marvel's Mosaic) pick for T'challa.

I'm sure Coogler will make sure that his friend MBJ will be a formidable foe against BP, even if they have to create new things for this movie that isn't present in the comics.

Do you think Coogler would have cast MBJ as T'Challa if he had the chance to do so? Even Jenkins admitted that she won't have cast Gal Gadot as WW if she had given the power to cast her.
Certainly possible. I guess some of what I like about Boseman is he can look young or even older. He seems to just exude this sorta statesman kinda look, if that makes any sense.

is there a list of Black actors that they were considering before they gave the role to Boseman? I recall Anthony Mackie desiring the role. And of course Wesley Snipes in the 90's. I bet Idris Elba was considered though he'd be too old (looking as well). Chiwetel Ejofor would have been my choice. Though again he looks quite older.

Aldis Hodge would have been interesting to see as Killmonger

Funny since he's younger than Boseman.

I don't think Ejofor would have been as good as Boseman in Civil War. I would trust Ejofor more to carry a movie than Boseman. Just has the natural acting chops and charm to do it. He may be in the top 2 or 3 "actors" in the MCU right now.

I'm sure Boseman will do great in his solo film though.

Oh come on man.

Look, lets say they had made it a way where this Zemo's grand father was killed by Cap or something... You got me on the family link.

This Zemo's family link had to do with Iron Man's Ultron screwup and nothing at all to do with Cap.

Thats not Zemo man.

Zemo's family was killed in Sokovia during the Ultron attack. How on earth does that not qualify?

Because it didn't involve Steve punching out his dad while the guy was wearing a magenta hood?

There is no list. Nobody else was considered for the role. Boseman was their one and only choice and they called him up and offered it to him straight up.

I never knew that story was legit.

Amazing as he literally only had 42 (and had finished the James Brown biopic) when he was announced as BP. He was still somewhat of an unknown.

I think he'd done draft day too; but in any case quality over quantity.

I'm assuming they checked out his work on tv as well.

May the Coogler/Jordan relationship continue.

It's like a Spike Lee/Denzel Washington or Scorcese/De Niro for the 21st century

Not exactly the role to emphasize his acting.

I recall seeing him in a short-lived series Persons Unknown where he was a soldier who converted to Islam and was trapped in some small town with other characters. He was really good there. Years later I saw 42 and was amazed that it was him.

The point is, it was a different role to the biopics and although it was a small part he still made the role significant and impacful enough to stand out. Also his TV work I'm sure would have been looked at, he was particularly good in an episode of lie to me as a college student who gets tricked into sleeping with a high school student, he was also great in an episode of cold case where he's a politician trying to make a difference in his neighbourhood. All his TV work has been pretty good and although I didn't think much of his film the kill hole, he was really good in that too; same goes with god's of Egypt. The thingbto takecawayvfrom all of this is, Boseman has the ability to elevate whatever material he's being given to work with and make you notice sa a viewer.

I have the Feeling MBJ KIllmonger will besides Ego the Best MCU Villain so Far , alone the scene who he stands against the Dora Milaje was just Badass

I think he has a chance to be really great. Let's hope Marvel doesn't drop the ball again with the villains.

I have a feeling that Coogler won't let his good friend MBJ to get short changed as a villain. Hopefully the villains will live in this movie as well; I don't like how they had recklessly killing off villains in early MCU movies. There was a huge opportunity for them to jail those villains in one of those classic SHIELD prisons from the comics and they just squandered it.

After hearing about how meh the villain is Spiderman-Homecoming I got a little concerned. If they aren't going to get it right with Keaton...

If they let Coogler have his way then the villains should be good though.

As long as they give him the Wakandan accent I am good with MBJ but at the same time seeing him and T'Challa fighting in the trailer too looked great

Bare in mind that any commentary on villain quality is more than a little tainted. You can never be certain whose complaints about villains are based in "plot doesn't do anything with them", versus "I want the villain to define the movie". Far, far too many commentators still define "good villain" in terms of the latter.

This is MBJ's first time ever playing a villain in a film so I can see him knocking it out of the park

Did anyone else noticed the raised Marks/Burns? On killmonger torso? Look closely when hes standing against the Dora milaje or when he leaps towars tchalla.

I'm def excited to see. He was so good in Fruitvale and Creed. But his attempts in That Awkward Moment or F4 was so ridiculous. I hope for the best for his career. Hope he doesn't sign on for the doomed Matrix reboot. Being part of the MCU will help him. Only so many young Black leading men.
