Enjoy your one off movie that wont get a sequel
Isn't that what people were saying about the Ninja Turtles and Planet of the Apes reboots? You can't tell the future and neither can I.

So here's what I think the deep, complex rationale behind Jordan's casting was...

Trank had an actor friend he felt would be perfect for Johnny Storm and didn't care that he was a different race from the comics.

The end.

Of course EssayM is dead right, it is that simple. It's not some grand diabolical conspiracy.

They will have made more money then this ever will & Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was at least loved by many as well & Dawn even more. This crap wont have either

You haven't seen the film and neither have critics or most other people so calling it crap is just silly. And people did think that Ninja Turtles and Rise were going to disappoint or tank at the box office. Lets not rewrite history here.

I never said people did not think those things ? This movie have the chance to make anything with its current release date. The kids will be seeing Inside Out. Ninja Turtles won out because its geared towards kids & that also has a popular cartoon. So Inside Out will win that weekend. Then add in the return of Jurassic Park the week before & The Avengers 2 rewatches then Ted 2 the week after. Ignoring everything this movie has against it. The competition alone will make sure this movie fails

Every summer has competition.

On paper 22 Jump Street wasn't supposed to beat How to Train Your Dragon 2 domestically and Maleficent wasn't supposed to outgross The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

There are some movies you know are going to tank like John Carter and The Lone Ranger. I think until we see some footage and hear more about FF then it's status is up in the air.

Josh Trank wanted Michael Jordon to play Johnny. That Is all that happened here.It has happened with other films most noticbly with Chris Nolan and Tom
hardy.

Noone how the film will be received.Noone thought rise of planet of apes would be good or be a hit.

Few people would have thought

Captain America The Winter soldier would have higher domesic total than Transformers

That X-Men would have outgrossed Spider-man and Godzilla and would gross 744 Million WW

That Maleficent would outgross Spider-man,Godzilla,X-Men,and Planet of the apes

GOTG possibly being number 1 film of summer domesticly

The high business that TMNT has been doing.

We know nothing about what to expect till we see trailer. This film could be good or it could suck.Noone knows yet.

But what constitutes an accurate representation of their relationship? Certainly how they feel about each other is more important than the results of their paternity tests.

You can say step siblings have as viable a relationship as biological siblings, and I wouldn't dispute that, but it's still not an accurate depiction of the comics version.

Some people should just save themselves the effort and just say "But Johnny Storm's not black in the comics so I don't like it." Because I highly doubt those who are claiming inconsistent family features would have any less problem with a black Invisible Woman. At least, that is not my experience on superhero message boards.

I can't speak for everybody who objects, but I've made no bones about the fact that I don't approve of race changing characters.

People really try to push the envelope when it comes to veiled racist accusations. *shrug* At the end of the day,Trank just cast MBJ,cause Trank luvs MBJ.It's not like there is any more to it than that.

Making visible the implicit undertones of this complaint is not pushing the envelope.

If you're not going to watch this movie (or already criticize it) because it's inaccurate to the source material or you don't like the way this family dynamic looks, than at least be consistent and don't watch Avengers Age of Ultron.

Again,I've made no bones about my distaste for Marvel's mistreatment of Hank Pym.

Wanting a character represented faithfully from the original art, does not make one a racist, however.

I didn't say that, because it will be different down to the individual level.

But if you compare the outcry and backlash between the two movies I think it points to something else. For many, those who think this casting ruins the family dynamic will still gladly watch an Ultron movie that has a much more dramatic change to an important family dynamic. On a general level, not the individual level.

Yeah, it pretty much is pushing the envelope, and it is a discussion that we have had here ad nauseam, we are not going to go back to that discussion again. So, let's not take it that direction.

Ok last post here in this forum again. I see taking a break didn't change anything. It's sad that I can't talk about characters that I like because I can't turn a blind eye.

You are more than welcome to talk about the characters all you want...but no, we are not going to go back to pulling the race card on fellow posters either in a veiled post, or outright. It's not going to happen...NOR, is blatant or veiled racist comments going to be tolerated. If you feel that someone has done this? report it...the mods and admin. will take it from there. But, it will not be discussed on this forum in an accusatory manner against another poster as a point of discussion.

I hope nobody with adopted siblings read this forum because according to some people on here their relationships aren't as good as blood related siblings.

Let that be a lesson to you adopted people, your love for your family isn't as good as mine and never will be. Suckers. :o

Indeed. Sad, really.

I think the problem people are having with the casting is:

A) They were not step-siblings in the original comic, and they want to see an accurate representation of the relationship (a novel concept to be sure)

B) Neither actor could successfully pass for being biracial.(Save yourselves the effort of trying to dig up photos of biracial families that look like that. The bottom line is it's too much a suspension of dis-belief.It takes you out of the movie when you're thinking "Hell, they look nothin' alike." constantly.)

I totally understand that. But comic accuracy is not the be all and end all of CBMs. Every CBM Has changed things from the comics, every single one. It shouldn't be such a big deal anymore when they have differences from the comics.

If Johnny Storm was white but still adopted, no one would say anything about being accurate about their parentage.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

So here's what I think the deep, complex rationale behind Jordan's casting was...

You win the Internet today

Agreed but certain people will hate the movie, not because of the final movie itself but because they've decided to hate it long ago and won't change.

How is this different then you guys being positive about this without seeing the movie ? Its just two different opinions. Both sides are doing the same thing

I don't care what people say, I think he's going to be a good Johnny Storm.

Last I'm going to post about the whole race thing, I promise:

This is my response to everyone who makes this and similar arguments:

Okay...maybe Sue's adopted. Maybe she's his stepsister. Or his half-sister. There are literally thousands of possible real-world explanations for multiracial siblings, and almost all of them could be conveyed in a throwaway line with no impact on the story flow. Unless the filmmakers somehow make it a focal point of the film, the only way it should be distracting is if you're intentionally focusing on it. That doesn't make you a racist, but it does make you oddly narrow-minded. Just ignore it and enjoy the rest of the movie (unless of course it sucks, but try anyway).

There. I'm done.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else but I have my concerns about the project. It could easily turn into another District 9 to Elysium situation to me. By that I mean a director makes a promising unique film and drops the ball with his big budget effort. I'm well aware that Fantastic Four could blow but I am trending more positive than negative for a few reasons. I hate found footage films but Chronicle was a damn good film to me so the director gets the benefit of the doubt, the cast are very talented rising stars and Fox has released some of the better genre films as of late.
I don't care what people say, I think he's going to be a good Johnny Storm.
On paper I think he damn near perfect for the role.

There is a stark difference from being positive (or negative!) to actually saying a movie will stink (or be amazing!) before you've seen a lick of footage.

I don't know about Ninja Turtles and Planet of the Apes since I didn't follow those films. But I remember, the early buzz for First Class and The Wolverine was not good. And I don't think a lot of people before the films were released, thought there would be a sequel to them.

I followed both films (Apes and First Class) and it was pretty negative all around.
