Wow. I read through this thread and it scares me the number of people who use computers, yet pretty much don't know anything about them, or how to protect them.
I mean, if you're doing anything on your computer that requires you to go online and log into something, you're putting yourself and your information at risk. And you should know at least the basics. And if you're doing things like paying bills, or your computer has sensitive information on it, knowing this stuff is essential.
Maybe the Hype needs a sticky Intro to Computers thread that explains the basics of how computers and operating systems work in simple terms. (I was thinking we had one.) And it'll talk about how things like virus work/spread, and how to protect systems. Because hackers and virus writers thrive on the ignorance of typical computer users.
