If theres already a thread for LOTR based titles, just move this, but WB has announced a new third person action game based in the LOTR world.

In development for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 at Monolith, the studio behind Guardians of MIddle-Earth, Shadow of Mordor casts you as a ranger whose family was slain by Sauron's armies. Having been killed himself, he's resurrected with "Wraith abilities", and is ready to take on the Mordor hordes. The story involves the Rings of Power but otherwise seems totally separate from Lord of the Rings canon, though Warner promises it will align.

Warner's Samantha Ryan had this to say: "Players will explore the dark and very personal theme of vengeance in a world where decisions have a consequence, and those consequences persist even after death... The game introduces new gameplay mechanics to the action genre, creating opportunities for emergent and customized gameplay that will be rewarding for players."

What sounds most interesting now is the "nemesis" system, which apparently differentiates every enemy in the game according to personality, strengths and weaknesses. "Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session," claims Warner's press release. "Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player."

I think as far as horrible bastardisations of a franchise go this is sounding pretty up there right now.

As long as its fun, who cares. They've made more good Lotr games than bad so I'm curious but War of the North sucked so

Iv never played a LOTR based game but I'm hoping for a cool third person action game with kick ass combat and bad ass animations.

I would like a LOTR RPG where you could create your own character and choose race/class.

I was pretty hyped for War in the North, let's hope this game delivers.

I enjoyed the LOTR movie based games back in the day

Hope this is good! I loved the lotr rts games and the third age rpg game. I also have lord of the rings conquest

I hope this doesn't suck. It seems to have some interesting ideas.

The problem is they often rush these games out

After the disappointment that was War in the North, I am not creating any expectations, nor become excited. I'll wait until the gameplay videos hit YouTube before I form any judgment. In terms of games, part of me wishes Bethesda could create their own Middle Earth Game. It would be awesome to travel to all of the locations from the texts and encounter characters/campaigns not used in the films. But, that will never happen.

Lord of the Rings? *yawn* Let me know when someone's making a Game of Thrones game.*

*A good one.

That game would suck. At the end of the first level the main character would just die

That would just be the tutorial. It could be like GTAV where you can switch between a Stark, a Lannister, and... Trevor.

Sounds promising. I've never played an LOTR game either, but I could easily get into one if it were as fun as this sounds.

I think it will be years for that, i think an RTS game would be great, but you'd need to adapt the books to get the full beautiful detail of the world imho. The Game of Thrones Board game is pretty good.

Ok...This sounds badass.

It sounds promising, but there is a question of practicality; namely, can they deliver on this large promise? If they pulled it off, it would be fantastic and would finally deliver a LOTR rpg we have been needing for some time. However, considering the quality of LOTR games, I am not raising my hopes on this one.

It sounds great on paper, but I'm not holding my breath that it will work that smoothly.

Something about the synopsis for this game gives me a 'The Force Unleashed' but with LOTR vibe. It certainly sounds promising but could totally suck. I never got around to trying War of the North but the old PS2 co-op movie tie-ins were some of the best movie games of all time IMO, so I'd love a good action LOTR game.
