This sounds like something straight of South Park....
Some students at San Diegos Bell Middle School found something a lot more entertaining than the teachers lesson. Nine boys were suspended after they *********ed while watching porn on their cell phones during an English class.
When the teacher was informed that the boys were *********ing in the classroom, he supposedly let them off with a warning. The nine boys were then suspended after an administrator was told about the incident.
Their names and the extent of their punishment is not publicly released because of the boys ages and the schools privacy policy.
The boys were supposedly watching gay porn to perform a student-created test to see if the boys were gay. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the boys were considered homosexual if they got aroused when looking at gay porn.
The incident occurred in a class of all males. The boys were wearing gym shorts at the time.
Its crazy I dont even know I cant even believe it, one unidentified fellow student told NBCs San Diego affiliate.
Gay rights advocates were upset when they heard about the incident at the liberally-progressive school, which banned the Boy Scouts in 1993 because they thought the group discriminated against homosexuals.
Patti Boman of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays said:
I was thinking we were getting better and thats why we go out and speak in schools. This is news to me and this gives me chills. It is terrible.
Ed Johnson was the English teacher in the classroom at the time. There is controversy about whether to keep the teacher on staff or not after he ignored the incident. Johnson denied that he knew about what his students were doing, but other students claimed that Johnson was notified and ignored it.
Hes my teacher but Im in a different period, and he doesnt really do much about anything because hes not a good teacher, one unidentified student told NBC. He always reads. Thats all we do in class is read he reads and we listen.
The middle school has not made any comments, except one statement which said that Johnson was still employed by the school.
Parents and some faculty are voting against Johnson staying at the school. However, Bill Daniel, a special education teacher who also serves as the teachers union representative, is spearheading a petition in support of Johnson.
We only want to support him as a friend and colleague. We are making no judgment. Our petition only states that there appears to be rush to judgment based on questionable statements made by very young children.
Hale Maher, another teacher at the middle school, said that some teachers do not support Johnson. I have had my students come up to me and ask horrible questions about what happened. Bill, respectfully, our job is to protect children, Maher wrote in his email.
This issue is dividing our faculty. Many of us are outraged yet we keep silent. Protecting our children just as protecting the jobs of those who are losing theirs is the job of the union. I never speak up. But this is wrong. We must protect our children.
