Me too. I didn't even think about this option. But once you hear it, it makes so much god damn sense. Not a great tragedy, but something simple that easily can cause him to get jaded.
I'm glad we finally got more of Bombay's backstory and what he was up to between D3 and this show. It made sense but I can guarantee him not being allowed to coach in college again wouldn't happen. Especially since his program was so successful.
You know how many NCAA basketball coaches have had sanctions and gotten into trouble only to turn around and get another job a year or two later?
It sounds like the kid made out okay. And I would be willing to bet that Bombay took a deal to protect the kid he helped from consequences. And it is quite easy to see how such a process can make him jaded like we saw in the first episode. He does not like what the Ducks have become, essentially Hawks 2.0, and I'm sure realizing what the NCAA essentially treats their athletes would turn him away from continuing.
