Millar and Gough are leaving the show!

Back on topic... When I get away from all the griping here I have some different thoughts. Against the tide kind of thoughts...

Millar and Gough gave us Smallville, right? I'll forever be grateful for that. Thank you very much.

I don't know what's true about ANY rumors... or WHOSE influence has caused THIS season to be SUBPAR (I have very FEW gripes about seasons past) I just know that I LIKED their take on Clark's years in Smallville and have been very interested to find out where THIS STORY (not the freaking comics) is going.

So, I'm disappointed that we apparently will never know what the CREATORS had in mind. That sucks I think... :(

I know in interviews past Al/Miles have said how they have the premiere's and the finales in place--it's just a matter of writing inbetween to connect them. I have the feeling that the "launch sequence" is in place and probably won't be deviated from too much in the last season.

And if it is hopefully it will be for the better and not to sell gum or a cel phone.

But then again, depending on which rumor you want to believe they could have left for nobler reasons due to the aformentioned excessive push for hour long commercials, etc. etc. And what we end up with in the end is a good long shot of TW in the suit, but next to the big red \S/ on his chest we've all been waiting to see will be ad patches like he's a race car driver...:cmad:

If Tom ever wears the suit, it would be only on the finale, the moment he becomes Superman "officially", that's the end of Smallville. TPTB have been clear about this and with all the legal issues, maybe we won't even see him in the suit at all.

One thing I caught on to years ago, Tom welling character can never, and will never, be Superman on this show. They screwed up continuity so, so, soooo bad so early that everyone will recognise him as Senator Kents son.

The suit? Will never happen. That red coat and brown boots, thats Smallvilles Superman duds.

IMO, just let this show end, and maybe in a couple years we can get a better, more true to source Superman TV show.

LOL I could see that have Nike, Coke, Honda, all on the suit.

That much is true.

I would like to see this show go the way of Lois and Clark. In a couple years, have someone come in and do it right Storyline wise. Special effects wise, without a doubt we can get a decent Superman TV show right now (I've seen great FX on it already for a TV show). But Superman is all about the story, character continuity, and the secret identity. And unless Smallville has Superman wearing an uncharataristic mask, he will not be the Superman we know, and doing the stuff we want him to do.

This show needs a reboot. These guys (who I felt caused all the problems to begin with) leaving should just be an open door for the CW to close shop, and restart in a couple Seasons.

recently Tom welling also had some problems with algough and miles

accodring to some sources they were acting all bossu on tom welling and holding back his movie career

they didn't let him work in movies very often because "contract"

also tom welling was not satisfied how they were taking calrk's character in wrong direction

Great news. I stopped watching this Roswell with Superman names show about 3 seasons ago when I reached my breaking point of them murdering character continuity. I think this is 6 seasons too late to redeem the show, but I'm curious if they actually get more traditional Superman elements and drop the Lana Lang/ No Flying/ No Secret Identity thing.

Who am I kidding, you guys have been eating it up for a while, why would they change it?

Nivek has a stick up his pooper.

My mind is at ease now. I think the show will be in good hands now that we know who the replacements are. Like Hulk said, they probably have had a hand in writing the story for the end of the series, thus they are the perfect choice to get it done right.

and Miles and Al have probably told them what they had in mind for the end so they could tweak weak bits now that they're in charge

We will never know the full extend of what has happened between them - unless either TW or another cast member opens their mouth - but those rumours have been swirling out of the set from crew members who witnessed some kind of altercation for months now.

season 7 was a mess.

they should have planned for this to be the last season - w/ all the cast and exec producers intact (and no supergirl)

smallville is going to go out w/ a whimper.

A series based 100% on the comics is not going to work, is just too cheesy and dumb. Have you ever thought that Lois not recognizing CK and Superman as the same person is just ******ed? That the classic suit is kind of cheesy nowadays? That Mxy as it is won't work for an adult audience? That's one of the reasons SV changed Bizarro, to make it more realistic and sophisticated, and it worked! Most fans like SV Bizarro, only fanboys wanted the dumb Bizarro with his "Me Bizarro save...". :whatever:

Is just dumb to pretend glasses would work to cover your secret identity, it doesn't cut it on live action, so now Smallville has to deal with it. Is not credible at all and it makes the characters look stupid. Superman's mythology needs changes to adapt it to today's standards, the world is not a naïf place where a pair of glasses are going to fool people about your "secret identity".

you can have a true to the source superman show if it's a cartoon, but not with live action (as Mikelus said above). a live action show like the comics would be as cheesey as the lois and clark soap opera with dean cain.

^ Is about common sense, but when things are done with little logic (comics), then we have problems. I'm sure no matter how SV handles the whole secret identity issue, and Lois and Lex not recognizing Clark and Supes as the same person in the future, a lot of people are not going to like it. The most logical solution would be a partial memory wipe out, but then people are going to be pissed, but if they just want us to believe that by putting some glasses, gel on the hair is enough to fool the whole world.....:whatever: Is just a no-win situation no matter what they do.

really, Batman probably has the best secret identity. Superman never had a good one. So yeah, no matter what you do, his secret identity will be lame.

the christopher reeves on was good but, i never liked the dean cain one. you coudl tell straight off with he was Supes. but with Reeves you had a lingering feeling but, when he did soemthing goofy you brushed it off.

well the christopher reeve version was still lame, IMO. Acting goofy wasn't enough. If Superman wore a mask or something, then it would be more believable but wearing glasses and bumping into things was still obvious. I liked how they touched on it in Superman Returns when Marsden's character asked Lois how tall Clark was. But then they laughed it off. That was funny to me.

^^^ lois did suspect clark as superman in Superman 2

remember she was testing him if he is superman and finally clark revelas his superman identity to lois

but in the end lois had that "i can't share with u the world" thing and clark gave her a memory wipe kiss:huh::huh:

yeah, which makes it a bad disguise.

not really he kept her stumped for longer after that.

The lask of disrespect toward the Superman character by some of you Smallville fans I'm reading is a bit concerning. Are there any Superman fans that actually think these comments like "The secret Identity thing is stupid" or referring to classic Superman elements are "cheezy and dumb" is something people should be called to the floor to answer for?

I mean, isn't there another Superhero character you can better relate to if you think these pretty standard elements are cheezy and dumb? It's like saying you love watching Star Treck, but hate the space and alien stuff.

I think the secret identity is just accepted, has to be.

I mean, in a real world, a pair of eye glasses and wearing your hair different isn't going to fool anyone into thinking you're someone else. But in a comic or cartoon, somehow it makes sense. This is a comic book show... why does it have to be different here? It worked for the Reeve films...

Anyway, people come in here and complain about how stupid Smallville is because no one who knows Clark would fail to notice that Superman is just him without the glasses.

I ignore them because arguing it will not do anyone any good.
