Millar and Gough are leaving the show!

Why are you guys putting some stock into what emij is saying? She is the same person who swore up and down that the WB would not let Singer make a sequel and that Singer was off Superman and already been told this and tons more stuff like this and is now saying as of this week that Singer's sequel will happen. As Triplet said before she may be right about other movies but when it comes to Superman she nor her husband know anything.

This is probably true to a point. The Superman court case has thrown everyone off balance and a lot of things that were off the table before are now considered again because they simply have no choice.

Yes, Singer was off the table when the WB thought they could consider a Superman reboot with at least 3 films. Now that the WB has only 5 years left before they lose the remaining 50% of the Superman copyright they have no time for a 3-film Superman reboot. So news have started to leak that the WB are turning back to Singer as the only option for at least one more movie.

Why is it hard to believe that things do change and what was not a possibility up to now, could happen because of the new circumstances?

...because everytime a report is wrong, you can't say..."things change" That would mean she is 100% right all the time? Nobody is!

Variety confirmed that WB did consider just re-booting the Superman franchise. But all real intentions and what not for said re-boot went out the window when WB and Legendary Pictures inked a new deal with Singer to produce/direct the Superman Returns sequel in October '06.

And yet "Jayne" still insisted, "Oh no. Singer's been fired. They're going to re-boot the franchise with Tom Welling right after Smallville ends. Ya, Welling!"

You can't have it both ways. She.was.wrong!

How did this become a Superman movie thread?

I mean I can understand people wanting to see Welling as Superman but to put your hopes in the hands of this girl is just wrong.

How did this become a Superman movie thread?

I think because the discussion turned to Jayne and her take on Gough and Miller, then it just morphed into Superman and Jayne's take...

Back on topic. So...anyone think we'll see the suit on Welling (on Smallville obviously) this time next year?

No not as long as they plan on going forward with Superman: Man of Steel and Justice League and not while the Superman and Superboy lawsuits are going on. The most I think we'll get is someone crying for help and you see Welling take off his glasses (serious look on his face) and then you cut to the sky seeing a red, blue, yellow blur streak fly across it.

Since this probably the final season (with a good chunk of the cast only showing up for 10-13 episodes and new show-runners), they might just go, "Oh...what the Hell!" And put Welling in the red & blue suit ($20 says they'll end up using one of Routh's suit from TMOS) for the last few shows; if not the series finale.

You actually suggesting they're going to use Brandon Routh's suit, the suit he actually will wear (if that film gets made that is), from that movie??

No, won't happen.

Not only is Tom a completely different size, bigger, taller, that's just a ridiculous idea.

For one, I think it's against the union rules to share body hugging costumes.

For another, even if Tom and Brandon were the same size and it was allowed to share such skin tight costuming, their measurements would probably vary quite a bit and what would fit Brandon in a skin tight costume would not probably also fit Tom.

I think they are both big enough stars to not have to use the other's cast offs when it comes to such key pieces of costuming....

The suit, if Tom does ever end up wearing one regularly in the show, will be a custom job just for him.

They spent like several thousand on Justin's Arrow suits. They will probably do more than that for Tom's suit, if he were to get one for the show.

WB, Nolan & Co. made all the actors auditioning for Batman put on Val Kilmer's old suits.

Agreed but Triplet Tom is not that much taller. I think they are the same size or Tom is an inch taller. But that is once again if the WB allows them to even wear the suit. I mean if Supermax ever went into production like it was suppose have been we wouldn't have even seen the Green Arrow is his outfit or we wouldn't have seen him at all.

Auditions are a different animal. Naturally you will be using other things on hand (such as older movie suits) because the actor to fill the real suit has yet to be chosen..meaning the suit maybe designed, but not made per that actors measurements.

But in the case of the finale, Tom's suit will be a custom design, IMO. Doubt they would borrow anything from SR design wise in that regard, but you never know during SR filming they did try to synch up the look of the Daily Planet.

I'm not really surprised by the new producers but surprised there are so many! Too many cooks...as they say

As long as there is a solo Superman series I think SV will have to conform to it some what in looks for example the FOS/Daily Planet/\S/ and maybe the costume. So I think if Welling is to put on the suit it will look close to the one we may see in MOS but thats only if that movie has gotten off the ground before the close of SV.

If Tom ever wears the suit, it would be only on the finale, the moment he becomes Superman "officially", that's the end of Smallville. TPTB have been clear about this and with all the legal issues, maybe we won't even see him in the suit at all.

Exactly. I believe the rules come into play once the actor is hired. During auditions, there are no rules in regards to costumes.

I don't know the exact rules for SAG, but in Actor's Equity (the stage actor's union), the rules are very strict on garments that are close to the body.

Anything like skin tight suits have to be only worn by the actor and cannot be shared. I think the rule was intended for undergarments and underwear. And who would want to share boxers with others? So it's a good rule, but I think the suit would fall into that catagory.

However, I must admit I'm guessing based on what I know of how things work in theatre.

A long time ago I worked in theatre as a dresser. The shows I worked for were non-union and didn't follow the rules closely because they didn't have to, but I had learned the rules because when we went to union houses we had to follow union rules even if we weren't a union show.

I think it won't be the same as the Routh suit or even close, really.

Smallville is a much less stylized universe and the darker colors wouldn't fit in the brightly colored world they've established in Smallville.

Also, Tom's chest is far broader than Brandon's... I think they'd have the shield be bigger on his chest and they'd use the version of the shield we've seen on the show instead of the more stylized SR version.

Agreed I would think they would offer up there own version of the suit. At least I hope they would. You never know with those WB executive types...:csad:

Ahhhh...maybe you're right. I just wouldn't put it past WB & Co. to put Welling in the Returns suit (taylored of course to fit him)!

There's a real bad-ass pic of him in said suit (with the fortress of solitude in the background). Mind you, I'm a Routh man (i.e. he.is.Superman. Period.) But...that's an awesome picture nonetheless.

You guys know which one I'm talking about right?

:pal:

I can smell it.

I like the manip but, i dn't think taht'll be the poster because it only shows Superman and doesn't emphasise team work

Focus on the Welling 4 Supes aspect of the manip, NOT JLA part of it.
I hope that Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson's vision of Smallville will be more SUPERMAN friendlier than Al Gough and Miles Millar.

IMHO :o Al Gough and Miles Millar shot their load in Season 2, by far my favorite season of them all.

That's a GREAT manip, and I LIKE that it only show Superman.

I'm not a fan of team ups (less time and focus on my favorite), so the JLA has never held much interest for me.
