Miracle at St. Anna

Cool, glad to see this subject getting more attention.

No it's not a dumb analogy.

Most of Spike Lee's films don't have an agenda anymore than Steven Spielberg's. Most of his movies show the world from a black protagonists perspective the same way 90 percent of Hollywood movies are from a white man's perspective.

He's also done historical dramas and documentaries that deal with African American history. Most of which was being ignored by Hollywood and the media at large but I don't think that's a crime. A Mexican American or Korean American director should do the same thing if they feel under-represented in the media.

Uh no it's not the same. Steven Spielberg doesn't go out of his way to make Jew orientated films with jew actors just because he's a jew. He just makes films.

yeah very true.

I'm looking forward to this movie.....I love WWII stories....and there are many untold stories about all races about this war.

People tend to make movies about things they know and understand...or are interested in. White directors tend to make movies about white people....black directors tend to make movies about black people. There is no conspiracy in this....it's just human nature.
I'll be looking forward to this....I love WWII movies, and there are many untold stories of the war concerning all races.

Spike Lee is interested in exploring racial issues between blacks and whites.....so most of his movies are based around this issue (most, not all)....so there is no big deal about his movies having lot's of black people working on them.

Spielberg made a little movie called "Schindler's List" and the award winning documentary "Shoah" about the treatment of Jews during WWII.

For years....the movie industry was dominated by white males. Speaking as an old white male.....I have no problem with movies being made by people who aren't exactly like me.

I love world war 2 movies.... though I have to say I'm not a big fan of spike lee's style. It's a little overly artsy fartsy. eh, we'll see how this comes together...

never saw any of his other movies.. but Inside man was teh cool.

now i see his planned sequel has been post-poned thanks to this movie...hhhh...

I'll be there.I love Spike Lee.The only movies of his I have'nt seen yet is Clockers and The 25th hour.

Agreed, let it die already. Everyone who was in it has, almost.

Wow, how ungrateful and disrespectful you are. You get to sit at home on your ass and post your despicable vile thanks to the men who died on fields far far away from home.

Its estimated that 4000 World War 2 vets die a week (it may be more). They were our greatest generation, and selfless in their act to give up staying at home playing baseball to journey across the ocean and fight a truly dark enemy.

We need MORE movies and books and shows, because soon they will all be dead. And our youth dare not forget their sacrifice because we don't need more people like you running around carelessly.

Not The 25th Hour...

I love that film. Ed Norton Love Letter to New York scene is mind blowing. How Spike Lee even got away with filming it, even though it was in the book.

Do you have a problem with "black" films?

You can get over it.
It's not even a big deal.

It sounds like a nice idea. Lee's last movie (Inside Man) didn't leave me disappointed, so I am lookinbg forward to this one

Exactly. Like my dad-he's 81. Enlisted at age 17, lied about his age to get in. Would today's teens do that even in a war that just? I'd hope so, but i doubt it.

America's role in WWII was it's greatest moment as a country as far as I'm concerned.

^^^

Ummm, wasn't Rssia the one to win Great Patriotic War, which was the biggest event during WWII?

:huh::huh:

I guess I am going to chalk this one up to your English challenges.

He said America's involvement was THE COUNTRY'S finest moments.

As far as the Great Patriotic War, I had to look that one up because it isn't known outside of Russia, and it basically refers to NOT World War 2, but only Russia's conflicts with the Germans. So yeah, Russia won it's own war against Germany.

And while Operation Citadel was a huge turning point in the war, so was the Normandy invasion (D-Day). Citadel's defeat got the Germans out of the offensive and Operation Overlord pushed them back to Germany and into total defeat.

Dumb analogy. They're not doing it to further some sort of "white" agenda. They're merely attempting to make films. Spike Lee goes out of his way to hire black actors to star in his "black" films. I wouldn't be surprised if his cameramen are black.

Didn't Spike Lee direct the first movie with an all black cast and crew?

Fine. There's nothing wrong with it. Unless you're getting passed over on a job for being 'whitey', why complain?

You don't to teach me. I understood him. What I meant is that one of the greatest (not the greatest, but one of them) battles during WWII was the Great Patriotic War, without this victory German would have won in WWII war. And I am confused, because how could anybody say it was just Russi's conflicts with Germans! Millions of people died to be remembered as just soldiers, who didn't do anything for the world, in which we live now :(

Agreed. D-Day was also a great event in the world's hystory, otherwise fascists would stay here for a long time to get more reinforcement.

You have missed the point......Kurosawa said "America's role in WWII was it's greatest moment as a country as far as I'm concerned.".....he is saying that America's participation in World War II was the greatest moment in American history, for the Americans.......and you responded with the mentioning of one of the greatest of Russia's moments during the war and questioned why it was mentioned.....well.....it wasn't mentioned because he wasn't talking about the greatest events during the war (which would include things from all countries).

I got it now. Somehow I thought he meant world's history, lol :)

It's easy to get confused on things....no problems.

That's Doc Savage.....Pulp hero from the 1930's and 40's. All those pics are from the Bantam books reprints from the 1960's and 70's....painted by James Bama.

Look him up on the net.....many current heroes are derivative of him.

^^^

He looks like a very iconic character. Have you seen the movie about him?
