Mission: Impossible 3

Charlotts Web comes out this December. And there's alot of horror films coming out in October.

....Goblet of Fire, Narnia, and Kong. ;) Need I say more?

I didnt say 06(the end of the year) would be able to beat the end of 05, But I think 06 will end up with bigger numbers. Charlottes Web could be Huge.

Summer 06 combined with a good spring will definitely surpass '05. No doubt about that. My "concern" (if you want to call it that ;) ) is the winter/holiday period. However, that same period only served to help save the mockery that was 05', and make it less embarassing.

My thoughts, decent action flick but it felt a bit dry somewhere in the middle and I wasn't feeling Cruise affection for either his wife or the girl who was killed in the beginning, Seymour Hoffman performance was nothing special. But the action was great but none the less it felt really prepackaged and nothing special, I give it 7/10 for being solid!

That's fair enough. As I said in my "review", it didn't break any real ground (although I didn't expect it to), but it was just plain fun.

From BOM:

Prior to the weekend, a Paramount spokesperson suggested an opening between Mission: Impossible II and War of the Worlds ($64.9 million) as the bar for Mission: Impossible III's success, compared to media and industry expectations that had ballooned past $70 million. On Sunday morning, a hopeful Paramount likened Mission: Impossible III's potential to Batman Begins, which had a weaker-than-expected $48.7 million first weekend but went on to earn $205.3 million. Both sprung from dormant franchises with baggage—Batman and Robin for the latter and Cruise's overblown off-screen antics in Mission's case.

Paramount's hopes are shallow at best. Batman Begins was not the end all be all of superhero movies, hell I didn't even think it was amazing, it was simply good. But what it did have was the benefit of being the sequel to one of the worst movies ever and also being something quite different, add in all the critic's praise and waht not, it led to good legs. So far Mi3's reception has been luke-warm, it's possible to have great legs but it's definately doesn't have a ton going for it. Then again I don't see waht the big deal about Posiedon is so that will perhaps under-perform as well and open the doorway for Mi3.

-I feel the same about Begins.

-Poseidon has very little positive buzz. "Oh, great. ANOTHER ship movie. Whoo hoo!." People are sick of it.

I think Poseidon will be underwhelming at the Box Office.

I don't see anything great about it, so I'll probably end up seeing United 93 that weekend. As for Mi3, the series has consistently never amazed me or made me want go back for seconds, it always leaves me wanting more but I'll give Mi3 this... It came the closest to being a satisfying movie experience.

You are right that the hopes of this getting Batman Begins like results are shallow. Batman Begins had better reviews than MI:3. In addition it had the Wednesday head start that MI:3 didn't have. This padded out the weekend BO some.

That was a decent twist too.
Really? I thought it was completely obvious half way through the movie. There was no way that
Fishburne was going to be the traitor. It was way too convienant and obvious
.

Overall, I was disappointed in this movie. Thats not to say it was bad. The action was great, and the mission break ins were really cool. I just expected so much more from the creator of Lost than such a run of the mill action movie. I mean there are so many action movie cliches here: The secret agent that tells his wife he works for some boring company, who will inevitablly be kindapped and have to be rescued. The agent thats "retired" and is brought back for one last job. The twist the bad guy that everyone can see a mile away. The scene before the break in where the whole crew talks about just how the Place They're Breaking Into is supposed to be the most guarded place in the world with cameras and guards everywhere, so it becomes so much more impressive when they suceed. The cliche they play with in the movie is the Maguffin. I liked that they never told you what the Rabbits foot was, because like Hitchcock says, no one really cares. JJ Abrams is a smart guy who should know all of these cliches. I was expecting something new.

IMO Mi3 felt like a poor-man's Bond which also has become very wooden :o

MI3 was terrific. I don't think you could have asked for much more than we got.

The opening scene is amazing.
The action is great.
It has the same theme as True Lies but does it much better
Hoffman was a great villain

I luffled that elevator scene, reminded me of Die Hard 3 just less bloody.

Wouldnt it be awsome if MI3 made more than Psoiden next week.

Heck yeah. I hope it does. Poseidon looks so weak.

Posseidon can get only $28m opening weekend and $133m domesticly.

So I think MI3 have enough chances to beat it.

"Can only", eh? ;)

Actually, a $28 mill opening weekend ain't gonna lead to $133 mill domestically. More like....$90 mill.

i'm looking for a pic of Cruise when he is in the airport (with his funny mask :D )

Posseid will have legs, but after Cars it will not continue box office.
