I did like Thandie Newton's Niyah though. And I'd love to see her come back at some point (same with Paula Patton and Maggie Q for that matter).

Also how the heck do you manage to make Richard Roxburgh boring? He's many things, but boring is almost never one of them, so that takes some real "talent" to pull off.

The supporting casts of MI2 and MI3, minus Luther, were both pretty blah. So much so, I cannot be bothered to look up their names.

Although MI:3 did introduce us to Benji, so I'll always give it credit for that.

You know, call me crazy, but I think it was a mistake making Cavill's Walker an American. I think they should have rewritten it so that he can play a Brit and Cavill can use his natural voice and swagger and integrate it into the role. Like maybe he should've been an MI6 assassin who had ties to Isla...i don't know, something. I felt at times Henry was struggling with the American accent, but that might just be me.

I didnt notice his accent. But regardless I'm not sure it even matters if his accent wasnt 100% american all the time.

For one thing the CIA doesnt just employee Americans so Walker could have been Brit and still have been a CIA agent. And for another thing, Walker is a CIA agent. A hammer. A person in his job would probably need to alter his identity and put on different accents and personalities from time to time. He'd need to live outside the US from time to time for extended periods of time. It could result in a muddled and mixed accent. Then on top of that [blackout]Walker is an international criminal.[/blackout]

Itd probably be weird if he didnt have a slightly "off" accent.

MI3 actually had a decent supporting cast. It’s when they started to emphasize more of the team aspect missing from the first two movies.

Zod, the score for this movie is so ****ing good. I cant stop listening to it. I love how intense and epic it sounds. It sounds like the score to a Nolan movie.

Before Fallout, MI3 was still my favorite film in the franchise. I still remember when I first watched it I hadn't seen any of the previous films which is why I was even more impressed by it. Loved PSH as the villain and the whole movie just has this crazy intensity to it that made the action sequences all the more thrilling to me. Sure I know most people consider other MI films to be much better and I can understand that, but if it wasn't for that movie I personally wouldn't have had any interest in these movies.

I liked Thandie in M:I2 and PSH kills it in M:I3. I also thought Michelle Monaghan did really well in M:I3 but it always irked me a little bit that they built up the love story so much in M:I2 and then in M:I3, Ethan is marrying a completely new character. Still, I liked her and she was really good in M:I6 as well.

But other than them (and Ving Rhames, obviously), I agree that the supporting casts in those movies are pretty dull. Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys-Myers are completely wasted. Laurence Fishburne is average at best as the red herring chracter. Billy Crudup totally phones it in and you could see the "twist" with his character coming from a mile away. And As I said earlier, Helicopter Guy, Richard Roxburgh and Dougray Scott are the worst characters in the entire series. And oh yeah, a dishonorable mention goes to Anthony Hopkins in an obvious paycheck role.

I think everyone in the theater gasped when the sound just went out after Walker got struck by lightning

I was not expecting that to happen and it made the whole HALO jump sequence so much more intense! That shot of Ethan looking at the storm with the score is my favourite shot/scene in the whole film. Such a damn good film.

I actually liked the Halo sequence more than the finale because it was just one long shot and had more tension.

Join the Mission Impossible: Fallout Camera team.
To get the most important shot of the movie, You will have to jump out of a plane at 25,000 feet.
That's not a problem, right?

Totally agree on Hopkins.

As others have noted, they deserve credit for introducing Benji. But I honestly feel like the IMF team behind Ethan only mattered in Luther giving some comical pep talks about relationships to Hunt. Otherwise, they were all pretty superfluous, even more so than the team who died in the first one, because they all had parts and their deaths mattered. :hehe:

I think the team dynamic has been most rewarding in the McQuarrie movies, but it was to me GP that started really emphasizing it. II and III, I actually think used it the least.

Good points on Monaghan and of course PSH. I was talking more the IMF teams. But yeah, PSH is always great. I like Monaghan a lot in general, a really underrated actress, but I never really warmed to the Julia character. Count me as someone who didn't mind she was written out of the series.

.
I saw an interview where Mcquarrie said that he intended for the final scene in Ghost Protocol to wrap up the Julia storyline, but, it was too ambiguous.
After Rogue Nation, people kept coming up to Mcquarrie and reminding him that Ilsa couldnt be together with Ethan because Julia was still out there.

I was pretty disappointed in it to be honest. The transition cuts weren't that smooth and for whatever reason the whole sequence was marred with terrible CG enhancements. I get they required the lightning, but it was the one part of the movie which stuck out because of how fake it looked at times.

I liked her character but I think having her marry Ethan kind of painted them into a corner. If she was going to continue to be involved in the missions, that would have worked well, but otherwise, she was just kind of out there and it kept Ethan from having any kind of romantic relationships with anyone else. So MI6 did a good job of concluding that storyline without killing her off. I also thought she did really well in her small role; I kind of loved that when she realized what was happening, she was just like, "What can I do?" rather than going into hysterics or blaming Ethan or whatever.

I actually thought the way Julia was 'incorporated' into the final section of the story was very well handled, if a little contrived & convenient but heh, this is Hollywood.

[BLACKOUT]Allowing what felt like a 'natural' end or conclusion to how they would depart/co-exist in their separate lives and allowing them both to move forward with a resolution that felt 'realistic' and natural. [/BLACKOUT]

I was very relieved that Julia wasn't portrayed as the stereotypical embittered ex wife.

I was fine with it actually. August Walker was a deep cover CIA spook. He was probably able to figure out and track down Julia and then Syndicate/Apostles were the ones who set up the medical camp at the end based on the words of Julia's husband.

It wasn't a coincidence that Julia was working there as a medical professional. She was manipulated into going there by Lane and Walker.

Even if I think M:I II isn't on the same league as all the other ones, I must admit I think all six films are great. I could watch any of them. The flaws they might have are completely compensated with how much they get right, in every one of them. I've always liked the franchise, so seeing all the hype surrounding it now, makes me feel good. I've sticked with it since day one, and it never let me down.

Btw, I know its just a movie but i was kind of confused as to how Cavill was able to just straight up take a lightning bolt and be completely ok afterwards.
