Do you guys want to see the franchise go in a different direction after this, or whenever Cruise can’t go on anymore.

I would be down for having Hunt become the next IMF director, while someone else steps into the main action role, be it Faust or some young recruits. I also would love to see MI period piece movies.

Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing Nyah Hall return for 7 to complicate Ethan’s new relationship. Thandie Newton still looks great on the big screen.
Well it seems like he's already having some issues based on that botched stunt from this one where he got injured. We are lucky that was the worst of it.

Just remember guys. Cruise is not a young man. Dude is 56.

I'd kind of like a next movie to sort of address that Hunt is getting older and can't get on like he did before. Damage taking its toll and such.

Edge of Tomorrow vs MI Fallout?

I'm rolling with Edge of Tomorrow

According to the Mummy 2017 he is :ninja:

BUt I wouldn't mind that either. Kinda like what Skyfall did with Craig/Bond. Acknowledge they're getting older.

I don't think Cruise will let it happen though. I liked this movie a lot but you could tell when Cruise had input the way just about every women stared at him or gave him "do me" eyes. I don't think he'd let a filmmaker acknowledge his age

Personally, I think they should stop once Cruise is done. A new franchise can take its place. But I think Cruise and Mission Impossible are basically synonymous at this point.

:D lol

Cruise won't allow it to continue, based on some of the responses he said when he was asked if he planned on making it like Bond. He's gonna make sure nobody makes one without him much like Zemeckis and Gale don't want any BTTF sequels or reboots.

Sometimes I wish franchises would just end, but movie studios don't have the temperament or patience to do such a thing. We all need the reboot or semi-sequel or some way to exploit the property in perpetuity. Things can't just end sometimes.

I'm fine if Mission: Impossible series keeps going as long as Cruise wants to do it and can "safely" do it at his age. Not sure how realistic it is.

But I don't think the franchise necessarily needs to continue without him either. Find some sort of new action-adventure franchise to hitch the wagon to. I know that's easier said than done, but try to do something new for once.

I can see him doing two more movies and then that's it. Leave it as one of the greatest action/spy series of films and let them be.

I almost kind of wish the Bourne series ended with Ultimatum. Then you end it on the strongest one.

With Lane surviving yet again I wonder if they will bring him back one more time.

I don’t think these movies will do as well without Cruise because you will never find another actor who is willing to do the stunts that Cruise does.

I think when Cruise is done as the stunt man, the series will go dormant for many years before some brave soul tries to reboot with a new star. At this point, Paramount are well aware the Cruise is the reason these are making money, not the brand name. So yeah, they'll probably try to convince him to play the director or something so he can get those butts in seats, but the success of of the reboot will depend entirely on if they still deliver those crazy stunts as well as he did.

The good news is I am more than convinced Cruise has two left in him, and at least one of them will be McQuarrie. He left Lane alive and definitely left a door wide open to explore Ethan and Ilsa's "relationship" beyond Fallout. He's planning on coming back, and I am totally down with him making his own trilogy within this franchise.

After MI8.... Cruise might be getting up there in years, but I just don't know if his ego will let him let go of it. It is hard to imagine him taking a supporting role and letting Jeremy Renner or whoever do the stunts.

And then Tom Hardy comes and breaks him over his knee.... :sly:

I do hope we get more of Ilsa/Ethan than what we've gotten in the last two.

And I'd definitely love it if McQuarrie does it at least one more. He just has great chemistry with Cruise as his star and this franchise overall.

I agree McQuarrie's planning to do one more, but I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to leave after that. Like you said, it'll be like his own little trilogy within the franchise. And a part of me thinks he and Cruise are planning on this next one to be a swan song for the both of them. I have my doubts Cruise will want to continue on without McQ. He'll want to go out on the best note possible.

can someone please tell me, spoilers obviously - Cavill - could he return as the main character or slowly morph into it and take over??

Definitive no.

I loved the reference to the first.

White Widow talking about her mom, Max.

I missed Jeremy Renner, but them’s the breaks of scheduling.

Another thing that I thought was a nice nod to the first that I haven't seen mentioned was [blackout]the opening. The whole fake room setup and "did we get it?" "We got it." That was just how the first one opened.[/blackout]

Yep.
I got a real sense of Deja Vu watching that.

I did not miss him even a little bit, lol.

Renner’s role in this film was about as big as his part in Rogue Nation.
