Given Ilsa's last line to Ethan I really hope it means she'll be back for the 6th film, I just can't see a reason not to bring her back and any new actress would have a mountain to climb to get close to how good she uis.

Glad you liked it Hunter. So far it's my favourite movie this year. For me, Rogue Nation is a representation of all that's good about cinema and the cinema going experience. Definitely see it again for the beginning section, though.

Down through the years I've tried watching the first MI a bunch of times, but could never get more than a half an hour into it, incredibly boring. So I never bothered with the other films.

But GP was on TV lastweekend, & with the great WOM on RN, I thought "F*** it, I'll try it", and found it to be very enjoyable. So now I'm debating wether I should go back and watch the first 3, or just jump straight to RN.

Give the first one a chance. It starts slow but gets very interesting near the middle. It is different than the other ones, as it has that Goldeneye Cold War feeling. You can skip the second one (trust me, it's the weakest one). The 3rd one, however, is the most intense one IMO. And has the best villain. Let us know what you think after you watch them.

yeah i've re-watched the first one lately and its such a different film compared to the rest.
I noticed that Ethan doesnt use a gun in the whole picture. He kicks one guy during the CIA Heist and at the end he slides into voight's character on the train. There is not even one real fight.

Haven't you realized by now, pre-judging a project/being overly-pessimistic before one second of footage has been shot is just what fanboys do. It's as natural to them as breathing.

Oh I meant potential mess. I've seen Channing in many movies and he hasn't impressed me at all.

He impressed me in Foxcatcher. Also, he's proven to be surprisingly funny (which is important for Gambit).

I have to say as an overall cohesive film, RN takes the cake. Even though GP's Dubai sequence is definitely the action highlight of the series.

I absolutely loved the suspenseful espionage feeling in this film seeing as the first MI is possibly my favourite.

Its a very different film to the rest, its more a thriller/mystery than what happened from 2 onwards when it become more about the action set pieces and stunts.

I must re-watch 3 at some point, have seen all the others lately but I really dont remember much about that one. (but it has to be better than 2 at least )

I just can't see how the third one is the worst. It had the best villain plus it made Ethan human and vulnerable.

The only complaint would be the shakey cam.

The second one was at least entertaining, I found the third to be an unmemorable bore.

Without a doubt, just a fantastic piece of engaging entertainment that thrills and immerses equally.

Whenever I hear about women in a lead role, I immediately think of Marion Cotillard. She would have also made a great Ilsa (No complaints at ALL about Rebecca) and could play Bella too. Terrific actor.

Can you believe the BOM doesn't even have Rebecca in the credits of the MI:RN page? They do, however, have Ving Rhames. Weird.....

Actually I think people are rediscovering MI3, and it's getting more love now. It is strangely an underrated film, and I think it's due to the time it was released. It was filmed during the height of Cruise's 'crazy' phase of his public persona.

Yeah I remember there being a lot of discussion about Cruise's persona and personal life affecting his career at that time. That definitely affected the films overall success.

I believe there were even plans just before GP came about to replace Cruise as the lead in the M:I franchise?

For me Mission: Impossible III is where I began to love the series. I liked the first one but there was always something off about the second film for me even at that age. I loved the third one immediately though, and I love that it was only the beginning and the series has just become so strong.

I think most now consider MI3 the start of the new improved trilogy. (Which is not fair since I do like the first one. But i think it's a very 90's film too that has a different vibe from the later 3 excluding Mi2.)

Yeah...up till Ghost Protocol, Cruise's career was weird and uncertain. Yes, Cruise was going to walk away from MI and Renner was suppose to take over the franchise until Cruise changed his mind. But they kept Renner's character.
