Moon Knight

But here's why Rami Malek would be particularly wrong. He's Arab. And Arabs and Jews notoriously don't get along with one another.

I get it's well intentioned nonsense, but nonsense none the less.
There are "Arab Jews", maybe they don't figure in the American media simplified view of the world, but they are there.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mizrahi_Jews

And there are mixed people in the real world.
Besides, while I would say a Jewish actor would not be a bad thing for sure, it is a slippery slope: is a non practicing one ok? Must both his parents be Jews? Maybe the father is not sufficient! And what about if he looks like Lenny Kravitz?
Personally I'm down with whoever is able to portray Marc Spector, whatever his complexion, as long as the character roots are addressed.

Hugh Dancy now he would be my pick well darkhorse pick for the role of Marc Spector/Moon Knight

Or Jake Gyllenhaal if they go the big screen mainstream approach but Netflix approach I would go with Hugh Dancy still

I would love to see Moon Knight happen, he is really such a great character and honestly would be breaking new ground as a Superhero show. Obviously I'd rather this be on Netflix as it allows for deeper story telling than a film would and it could be a bit more graphic than a Disney produced film. I would like to see some inspiration be taken from the current run of the book starting with Ellis's run on the book. It has a supernatural tone while also dealing with street crime. Plus Mr.Knight would just look amazing, two very different costumes for two very different purposes. His Mr.Knight is the outfit worn while advising the police and his Moon Knight costume for handing out beatings and handling business. His personalities being an extension of the 4 aspescts of Khonshu. It should play out making the viewer question the heroes sanity and if it's real or just something in Marc's mind. Even as the show ends on the final episode we should have doubts any of it was real for Marc. Is the DID illness he suffers from something that helped his mind create the story of Khonshu and his Moon Knight or is the loss of his sanity the price he paid to be resurrected as the Knight of Vengeance. As in all stories of mythology, Gods had high prices for their help. Was Marc's sanity the price paid ?

The thing is you don't need $200 million to do Moon Knight. He can be done on the cheap.

The only really impressive thing he has in his arsenal is his Moon-Knight/Bat-wing thing. Mooncopter or whatever. And you can really jettison that for a TV series or minimalize it.

I would like to see some genuine location shooting, though. Probably not Egypt these days, but a place that could adequately substitute.

Isn't Moon Knight generally based in NYC?

I imagine the Egypt stuff would probably be done on sound stages. I don't think Moon Knight is the Marvel show that gets a Game of Thrones type of budget and just amazing epic location shots everywhere.

In Iron Fist, they did go on that jaunt in China, but you could tell with those scenes they likely did not film in China at all.

In Defenders, they were in Cambodia for the prologue, but they were in the sewers, so nothing was probably actually shot in Cambodia.

I'd love it if we could get that for a Marvel series at some point.

Sometimes actors can work on multiple shows at once. But yeah, it seems unlikely that an actor like Malek would do both.

When it comes down to leading roles, that's usually a big no. Some actors can get away with it if they are a supporting character on both, or if the first show is a supporting and isn't in every episode. Which sucks but actors are investments.

Anyway, Rami Malek is not the best fit for Marc Spector anyway.

Not sure about Simpson. Preferably an ethnically Jewish actor. Jake Gyllenhaal would be cool, but not sure if Marvel can afford him for a TV series. I could see him as Spector for a movie, which James Gunn has apparently pitched to Marvel already.

It's got to be an actor who is comfortable with doing an unhinged, little bit sometimes lot a bit crazy vigilante thing, but can also do the rich playboy thing as well, along with Spector's other personalities.

Taika Waititi then, and I'm not completely joking... Picture it for a second...

I know Glenn Howerton tried out and almost got the role of Starlord, but i think He'd be good Marc.

Thanks for reading and offering feedback! I mentioned before that Randall/Shadow Knight would be in the 2nd Season.

But it's not like natural accents have ever held back actors before. Chadwick Boseman is American, yet perfectly embodies an African King as T'Challa. Ewan McGregor is Scottish, but has played everything from Frenchmen to Minnesotians. And I know Rami Malek isn't Jewish, neither was Roberto Benigni, that didn't stop him from blowing the world away in Life is Beautiful. Casting should come down first and foremost to who can best embody the character, not where they were born.

Agreed. They are ACTORS. They are payed to essentially LIE. I don't see anyone up in arms about casting Englishmen as New Yorkers (Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch). Lots of characters have been retconned on screen to be different nationalities (Idris Elba, Valkyrie, etc).

Does Rami Malek LOOK Jewish? Yes. Does he have the acting ability to do the role justice? I would say he is probably the best equipped young leading man to absolutely NAIL the part just like RDJ and Jon Bernthal did in their respective roles and have become one and the same and nearly inseparable in the zeitgeist of their on screen personas. Ryan Reynolds too.

This is a tailor made role for Rami.

He is a tad on the short side but honestly so are the guys playing Daredevil and Punisher, but I like the actor. He is kind of a left field choice but he is a good actor and I think could knock it out of the park. Not to mention his father is Jewish. Jake Johnson is my choice

Malek's already attached to a hit series, he probably wouldn't be available for this show anyway.

Also it would have been impossible to find actors of the exact nationality of those characters, you know?

Again, Jewish people come in every shade and size, I suggested Taika Waititi, he's Jewish, but that's a plus, not a basic requirement.
As you said, they are actors, they are payed to essentially lie.

I like Taika Waititi, but that ain't gonna happen. Let's at least try to be a little realistic.

Like, Leonardo DiCaprio is not going to play Marc Spector on TV.

Yeah, I know, it's a far fetched idea.

Taika Waititi is already Korg. I dislike doubling up on actors in the MCU unless it's a bit part like Matt Gerald or Alfre Woodard got or if one role is a voice role like Clancy Brown had. I'm aware that Waititi is playing a mocap character but there's still a difference between that and a full-on voice role like Clancy Brown is playing.

Jake Gyllenhall is a good choice. He's just probably too expensive.

What about Adrien Brody? He hasn't had a hit in years and 44 is a fine age for somebody who's a former soldier turned mercenary so I don't think that he's too old yet.

Ben Foster also might be doable. if Marvel could land Sigourney Weaver, then Ben Foster also fits within the same price range.

I'm fine with Adrien Brody in theory and I think from an acting standpoint he could get it done, and on a physical level if he gets in shape. Though they might be looking for someone slightly younger.

Foster wouldn't be my first choice, but I could see that working as well. He's a talented and underrated actor.

Could they get Dylan O'Brien? Or is he destined to be Johnny Storm (Human Torch)?

If Moon Knight ended up getting his own TV Show, what do you think of having Damon Lindelof as the showrunner? He did a great job on The Leftovers and that was one of the weirdest shows I have ever watched, so that made me think of Moon Knight. :woot:
