More Script Problems?

Watchmen was primarily plot and character driven.

I agree that it was, yet it still was a little slow I felt throughout the entirety of the movie. If Snyder can work a plot and character driven movie to be very engaging, more akin to 300 then he's certainly got a chance to win over audience and critics. But what I'm worried about is, if because Superman Returns was so lack of action that might prompt for the next Superman movie to overachieve in the action area to where story might be dominated by action.

Look, I've heard about the script problems and "rushing" intro production. I'll go ahead and spill the beans.

The script DID in fact have issues in the third act. ALL of Goyer's projects have. This is nothing new to anyone. This also might have been news MONTHS ago before others were brought on to add their 2 cents (Including Snyder himself).

The fact of the matter is, both TDKR and TMoS have had some script issues. You're just hearing about TMoS, because Snyder lends himself much more to sensationalistic stories than say, a Mr. Christopher Nolan, who had quite a bit of trouble himself.

The issues for the most part have been ironed out. Nobody is really concerned anymore. (Keep in mind a MAJORITY of this concern was back before they even had Snyder signed on). So most of this is just regurgitating old news over and over again.

Are you some insider? Maybe? Possibly? :ninja:

Meh.

I'm still waiting on some "facts" regarding alleged script problems.

I didn't believe there were script problems at all at first, but there is truth to it. Everything was supposedly ironed out.

So there was but now they've been sorted?

Don't be surprised in the slightest if Jonah is brought aboard for polishing work like he was on Batman Begins.

How late did Jonah come on to Polish the script for Batman Begins?

I'd be happy with that, Goyers dialogue at times can be cringeworthy.

thanks for the info.

but now we need a leak about the villain. what are the chances that its only Zod without Brainiac? this would be a disaster.

IF Jonah ironed out anything, it wasn't much. The first draft was basically the final shooting script with small changes here and there.

If you look at Martin Campbell's career, he's probably made...3 good movies (not including Green Lantern) in his longish career. With Casino Royale, there was a lot of pressure on his part to reinvent Bond again, for the second time. Keep in mind that he made a bunch of average movies post-Goldeneye with maybe 'Zorro' being a decent flick.

Sorry to veer off topic here...

Mr. Campbell is arguably one of the finest technical directors of the last 20-30 years, and he has maintained an ability to deliver strong, tightly arranged blockbuster material for at least the last fifteen.

Plus, he's one of the few to successfully re-interpret his own previous work in a Hollywood or franchise/blockbuster context...twice (Edge of Darkness, Bond). He clearly wouldn't keep getting work in major Hollywood films if had only delivered "3 good movies" in his entire career, as you say.

Why a movie succeeds or fails isn't always down to the director...and Campbell's so-called "average" work post-Goldeneye has arguably been affected by some other issues.

If you look at the films themselves, they hold up to the best blockbusters of the last couple of decades, and perhaps exceed them, in technique and accomplishment.

If it isn't already clear, I take serious issue with your statement.

Oh, and I hear Green Lantern's pretty good...

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in the trades. Why haven't you guys told us this before? :woot:

It's cool to hear Chris ironed out some stuff, given that he's working on TDKR as well. Although do you guys know when he ironed this out? Possibly before he dove competely into TDKR?

Big tentpole flicks like this get polished/script-doctored/rewritten/whatever term-you-prefer all the time. It's not an automatic warning flag that the production is in trouble. Standard operating procedure. It's not always going to get reported nor should it.

But in this case, yes there were issues.

As long as things are cleared up before shooting I don't care if it had script problems.

of course. a villain from the Donner movies. its like Lex in SUperman Returns.
I don't see how that's a disaster... Maybe a disappointment to some. But a disaster? Nolan's reusing villains from the Burton and Schumacher movies, those weren't disasters. For all we know (if Zod is in fact in it) he's the same character in name only.

I don't want Zod to be the villain in this reboot but if they use him I will begrudgingly go-with-the-flow.

i don't think (or at least hope) that there is only going to be one villain...i think there will be multiple villains, maybe even 3 main ones.

1 of them better be Brainiac. He's the 2nd greatest villain Superman has, imo, after Lex.
