I said it about the first movie but Tan should have just been Johnny Cage. He could have played that character easily and I would much rather that than whatever Cole Young was.

Yeah it was such a dumb mandate to have this audience surrogate character at all, because like I said at the time, JOHNNY CAGE IS ALREADY THAT CHARACTER. One of the reasons he’s so likable in the 1995 movie is because he’s the guy who essentially winks to the audience like, “this **** is just weird.” But unlike Cole, he actually has a personality and the ability to fight.

I get centering a video game movie on a “normal” person if it’s Sonic the Hedgehog or something where all the characters are completely outlandish. But MK since its inception has had three essentially “normal” heroes to focus on - Johnny, Sonya and Liu. I know Liu has actual powers and a longtime understanding of the lore but it’s not like he’s an eight-foot monster with four arms.

Talking about how likable Johnny Cage is, this never would have happened, but I'd love if they got Linden Ashby back. After all, like Johnny, he's now an older actor (Ashby himself is 64), and Johnny is a washed-up, older martial artist. Not calling Ashby washed-up, though.

It'd be a legacy casting and casting-appropriate. Plus, Ashby was one of the highlights of that first film and from interviews, you can tell he still has a lot of love for Mortal Kombat. This is more just a fan dream that would never happen, but I'm just thinking out loud.

I always felt like they should've brought the OG cast back similar to X-Men: DoFP and adapted the intro to MK9. Have Raiden send a message to his past self with the movie functioning as both a legacy sequel and a reboot.

You say that out loud...that would've been a brilliant idea! If the films ever got that far, that'd be a great way to tie the old to the new.
