Mortal Kombat 2021

This was so terrible. Were the writer and director both drunk? Few people in this movie give even a decent performance and the writing is just so slap dash, everything taken at face value with little real development done. Not enough can be said for how poor a character Cole Young is.

Yeah. The writer seemed to think that just “having a family” makes Cole relatable. But they have almost no personalities and we learn next to nothing about them. I don’t even remember their names. They’re just there as a plot device.

Reminded me of the Russian family nonsense in the Josstice League.

Can anyone clarify, was that Cole's actual wife and daughter, or was that his step-daughter or his baby mama? Did they have her at a young age? Surprised the wife puts up with him being a washed up MMA fighter when they have a child to raise. Their familial relationship in the movie was kept very vague.

The Cole family was definitely a waste of time IMO and what's worse is that you could tell they really thought people would relate so easily to his character just because he's a family man.

I barely even remember a single scene where it showed any real emotion between those characters except the bare minimum of Lewis Tan licking that ice cream cone in his so called daughter's hand lol.

I'm sorry but cute stuff like that just isn't enough to make me care all of a sudden about a character, especially one with no personailty already and is introduced as some loser MMA fighter.

The bad reviews for this are kinda making me want to watch it more because of bad it sounds.

Oh well, the U.K's turn in a few days to watch it.

and to think you cast Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion for him to take a back seat to Cole Young and needed Cole Young help to defeat sub zero :nuhu: don't remeber a thing about his family and i saw the movie 2x but not enough is being said about the terrible job they did casting Raiden and Shang Tsung

The whole "why and what for" of the movie was vague. What a waste.

LOL, honestly it’s not even worth a watch. There are a few moments that reach Annihilation-level bad and those are fun to laugh at. But mostly it’s just drab and bland. It reminds me of Legend of Chun-Li in that it just feels like a waste of time and (SPOILER) they never even get to the tournament.

its been two weeks since i watched this and i'm still angry at it.

the thing is i still think there was a good mk movie at the core of this.
the visuals and costumes were good.
the fights were good - especially between scorpion vs subzero.

but how it was all strung together with a lazy plot...arrrRRRRRGHHHHH!!

I didn't think the fights were good. Twice they decide to mash up multiple different fighters clashing and it just felt like it cut away each time someone made a couple of swings. The final Scorpion vs Sub-zero was hampered by having Cole Young interjected into it. I was not a fan of the choreography or how it was edited.

The buzz from trailer was huge and so was the opening weekend BO which tells me we the fans are craving for another good MK movie they squandered all of that good will with the movie itself i remember we al speculated there hiding it for a reason because of lack of promotional material the fact that i can't buy an official subzero or scorpion covid mask says it all about the care that went into this project and the executive who demanded Cole Young shame on your on guy or gal

prolly the same wall street execs who was telling chris terrio how to write batman in JL.

Yeah I know about the no tournament thing and it sounds almost as bad as Cole Young, almost.

honest question: did they ever say Shang Tsung's name in the movie? I feel I don't recall his name ever being used and that seemed weird to me, but also not surprising since the character had like zero presence anyways.

I think the actor who played Raiden mentioned his name once but his English was really bad so who knows what he really said.

mk 2021 is like that cute girl who seemed cool at first, but then when you go on the first date, you instantly realize its all surface level and instantly regret your decision and want to gtfouuuuutttttt.

This and the Goro meme is just too much, lmao.

Today John Campia out up a video talking about MK21's box office and how he thinks the movie being on HBO Max has hurt the box office. While I do agree to a degree I personally don't think it's as much as he seems to think. Personally if the movie was in theaters only I wouldn't have paid to see it pandemic or not. I'm not even sure I'll buy the movie when it comes out on 4K.

The one thing this movie did do was take Kung Lao from being a character I didn't like and made him my favorite character in the movie. And well we know how that ends.

And to me Sonya seem like the perfect audience surrogate with the way she's wrote. As for Cole Young, he was exactly what I thought he would be. If they make a second movie hopefully we get a throw away line and him being in hiding with the help of Raiden to protect his family. Also I can totally see two execs having a $1 bet (like in Trading Places) and the bet being how it's so easy to create a MK character that fans will love.

I did like the movie more than expected but I was also expecting it to be a 2/10 at best. I would say it's a 5 or 6/10. I loved Kung Lao and Sonya and how can I forget Kano. Kano was great and I don't thing he was ment to get over like he did.
