Mortal Kombat

I doubt they remove all mysticism. It would kill the box office.I'm sure they saw what happened to the Chun Li Street Fighter movie.Scorpion can't be true to the chracter unless he's a specture.I'm sure Kevin knows this.

Removing the fantastical elements from Chun Li isn't why that movie failed. It failed because it was an abomination and literally one of the worst movies ever made.

I don't think amount of fantastical elements or how they're presented has any effect. Chun Li had toned down versions. MK1 movie had medium versions and MK2 film had amped version yet all 3 sucked (With Chun Li and MK2 being the worst ones).

Then there is a film like Thor which is filled with fantastical elements and yet is insanely awesome. MK needs to be a GOOD movie. If that's the case, less or more magic won't matter.

And the winner is...

Realistic is never a word I have used to describe Mortal Kombat. This film will not work if all magic/mythical settings are dropped. Well maybe it could, I just wouldnt care to see that. I like all the powers and extreme gore in MK, thats always what made it cool to me. If that stuff didnt exist no one would have ever gave a ****. There is no way they are dropping all fantasy elements.

What they mean is they wont the film cartoony like the video games.

They will incorporate the mythos of mortal kombat but have a real like world with regular people not dressed in costumes

But the Ninja Costumes & what not is what helps make Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat. If Scorpion & Sub Zero do not have their Ninja Costumes & if Cyrax is not a Cyborg then heads will roll

Well ninja costumes are fine, because in real life we had ninjas. They wont look cartoony like the video games. Meaning they wont look like its a costumer. Rather its just a outfit of rank or something

Where's the fun in that?
That's like a spine ripping fatality to Fun.

I expect fatalities to be very gory...But dont expect them to bobble around as the other guy does his fatality move.

Its all about the way they are filming really, visuals wise, Dont picture this as Street Fighter the movie or the 1960's Batman tv show, but more like Batman Begins and darker then the 1st Mortal Kombat

Are you just assuming all this and acting as if it's fact or are you actually in the know somehow?

Im going off what we all have seen with Kevin's directing and writing.

Alot of it is assumptions.

But if you saw the webisodes, they were nothing like Street Fighter.

The web series still had fantasy, it just wasnt a ******ed looking cartoon.

I really have no problem with a more realistic approach. If it were up to me, I'd remove all the fantasy elements from all the characters, unless it's crucial to their character. Like Goro needs to be a Shokan, Scorpion needs to be a specter, Sub-Zero needs to be able to summon ice. But Mileena doesn't need to be able to disappear in the floor and pop out of the sky, Kabal doesn't need to be able to run like the Flash, Baraka doesn't need to be able to shoot sparks with his blades, etc.

And when it comes to characters like Cyborgs, I have no problem if they revamp the whole concept. As cool as it was to see them in the web episode, looking exactly like they did in the game, I always disliked that they turned more and more into something like Ironman. I want less walking, armored tanks and something more sleek looking. Like this fanart.

What I'd like, instead of shoving all these machine parts into them, is to, for example, replace muscle fibers with steel fibers. Taking the human parts and replacing them with sturdier material, to make them the perfect fighting machines.

I agree with that. One thing they should do is resist the urge to use several characters in the movie. For example I feel the Cyborgs should be saved for a future sequel.Hell I don't think Shao Khan should even be in the first one.I would limit it to

Liu Kang
Shang Tsung
Kano
Sonya
Johnny Cage
Scorpion
Sub Zero
Raiden

I would also have Goro,Reptile and Baraka but they wouldn't have character arcs just be obstacles in the story.

They could make it like the new game though and, for example, throw in Sektor and Cyrax as human combatants. I'd probably focus on the 8 characters that you listed and have other MK characters serve as supporting cast. Then in a sequel, focus on those that only had minor roles in the first Movie.

That was one of the biggest surprises. The guy known for dying all the freaking time, actually survived throughout the entire story. But in exchange pretty much everyone else bit the dust.

Hey, my two favorite characters & my favorite female character lived, so I was fine with that. Scorpion lived, didn't he? Raiden kicked his ass & Scorpion was all like "F*** this" & left if I remember correctly.

Mortal Kombat faces the same problems as the X-Men and possibly the Avengers; how do you balance an ensamble cast? We all know the first 3 X-Men films didn't do a good job of that, but could the Avengers prove us wrong?

Any who the MK franchise is full of characters, but in order to pull off a good movie they have to pick and chose which characters serve the purpose of the story.

It's no brainer we'll see Lui, Sonya, Raiden, and Cage, but what about Kitanya, Jax, Kung Lao, and the other do gooders? How can you "re-invent" these characters? The first 2 films were a carbon copy of the game(with some changes), but what will be new and fresh to us, the fans? I think story is more important than who will appear. There's an ancient background of MK(Edenia, Outworld, ninja clans, etc) and the modern story...

oh another thing 2 what urked me in the original films none of the villains had a purpose/background!!! We know why Kano is their, what about Scorpion, Jade, Tanya, Sheeva, Sindel? Each of these villians or or "anti-hero" as a direct relationship to the heroines, so that's something else to explored

Tanya wasn't in any of the movies, actually. But I see what you're saying. At the same time, I don't think everyone has to have some huge backstory. The heroes, sure...but I'm fine with keeping some of the villains mysterious.

I don't see what the issue with too many characters is, some will just have more coverage than others. There wasn't any issue in how X-men was made, there were a few front runner characters and the rest were co-stars, simple as that. Not every character needs a complex storyline.

I finally saw the entire web series, and if Tancharoen can at least maintain the quality of the series, I think Mortal Kombat could be a good movie.

At worst, itd be better than the crap that is Tekken.

Maybe it's just me, but I have literally no faith in KT to handle an ensemble in a way that will make this film a success.
