Movie Theater Experiences Thread

I always see these terrible experience with idiots in movie theaters or the theaters themselves being terrible and I have to say, the theaters in St. Louis must be of a weirdly high quailty compared to the rest of the country. I got almost every other week and I pretty much never have problems at any of the theaters I go to around here.

Back in 2008 when I went to a midnight show for The Dark Knight they let us all in about an hour ahead of time and just played a reel of commercials. At one point they played an anti-marijuana ad which elicited boos from most of the crowd. It was an odd and funny moment.

As much as I love the Avengers, my theater going experience was terrible. As I walked in, the employee at the theater had a nasty attitude and told me that I better throw away the popcorn bag when I'm done. I had a seat reservation and didn't realize that I was in the wheelchair/handicap section, and the seat I was in was different from the seat she placed me in. So after I got up to go check if the other aisles to make sure, she says, "YOU BETTER NOT GO SIT IN ANOTHER SEAT!" I gave her a nasty look and ignored it. There were so many people in my way of the screen throughout the movie, and it was quite irritating. If I would go back in time, I would have complained and gotten my money back.

One of my local theaters recently revonated to give people the VIP experience. There's a strict no talking / no cell phone use policy that will have violators removed without a refund.

The attendants escort you to your seat which are now plush leather recliner seats that electronically move via switch.

I couldn't believe it and made me want to go back and spend more money on the weekends more often.

I remember when Ghost Rider came out, I had kidney stones for approx. 3 weeks after the show, and still suffer from an absolute amount of mental pain and distress.

You're an old man, huh?

This one time, I went with my family to see You, Me, and Dupree and there was a prostitute with a client sitting in front of us. Completely saved the entire experience.

Does anyone use GetScreening.com to get special screenings? If not you guys should definitely check it out. So far I've used it for Need for Speed and Draft Day.

I went to see the WWE 2014 Royal Rumble last January at the local theatre. I arrived a little late and there weren't very many seats left. The guy I got stuck sitting next to had the world's WORST breath. What's more, he kept turning and talking to me during the show. I don't mind talking to someone about the match we're watching usually, but this guy's breath smelled like something had crawled inside his mouth and died about a month ago and he never bothered removing it. I literally had to pull my shirt up over my nose to watch the last half of the show.

Seriously, if I can make it to the theatre to see this year's Wrestlemania, I'm bringing a pack of Tic-Tacs, Certs, maybe even smuggle in some After Eights, just in case I get stuck sitting next to someone like that again. "Here, have a chocolate covered mint wafer. . . Oh, no reason. Just being neighborly. Would you like some Tic-Tacs? How about some peppermint gum?"

Yeah I experienced that too at an AMC theater in Montebello, CA when I saw Robocop, the place was just renovated and I was happy that we know had reserved seating, not only that but the chair were reclinable so you can put your feet up.

The only downside to that is I can no longer sneak into another theater to watch another movie. :csad:

Lmao, I don't think I have ever laughed at a post so much in my life.

The best part, is that Ghost Rider isn't even THAT bad.

I remember when I saw The Dark Knight in IMAX on July 15, 2008 ( I won the early screening tickets) and I remember you could hear a pin drop literally any time during the film until the credits rolled. It was an amazing experience.

Same here. The only responses were really from Joker's magic trick and maybe a specific line or two. Like when Bruce says to Alfred, "I'm going to tell them the whole thing was your idea". That got a few chuckles, but the majority of the movie you could tell people were invested.

Also Gofobo just sends a lot of tickets right to you.

But yeah, I used getscreening to get a ticket to The Grand Budapest Hotel last night.

Last summer I saw the Way Way Back, The Conjuring and Pacific Rim for free over the course of 4 days.

Most of the time my theater experiences are pretty good, I can't even recall the last time I had a truly bad experience. Sure, there is the occasional phone that goes off, or you get a chatterbox near you, but nothing too bad.
Every so often I do have an amazing experience. The last couple that come to mind were when I saw Black Swan on opening day with a sold out crowd. The crowd was absolutely transfixed, and women were visibly cringing and shuddering during several scenes, especially the "fingernail" stuff, I never see that reaction to hard R horror movies. When the movie ended and the credits started to roll there wasn't a sound, not 1 person got up to leave. I've never seen anything like that before or since.

I've had some great experiences watching Frozen too, especially early on when it was packed and showing on the biggest screens with people who haven't seen it yet, but the Sing-a-long viewing sticks out in my mind, there were several girls dressed in Elsa outfits, and even 1 Anna and it was adorable watching them sing along, and there were a couple of teenage girls sitting behing me who were possibly even more excited than the kids, and they turned out to be excellent singers too. That was a fun showing.

I went to the December to Dismember ECW pay per view in Augusta about eight years ago. A guy in the group I was with had a sign that read "IF BIG SHOW WINS, WE RIOT." Show was the champion (and a heel) at the time. Since we sat next to the entrance ramp, the guy could actually talk to the wrestlers. Big Show comes out with Paul Heyman, Heyman looks at the poster and told him Big Show wasn't gonna win. Big Show did not win that night.

If you're thought Ghost Rider was that bad, wait until you see Spirit Of Vengeance, lol.

I ussually dont go to movies on weekends and 2 weeks ago i was reminded why. At the cinemark in maryland Some jack wag let off an empty soda bottle with fireworks inside during an 8 something showing of 300. They still havent caught him. They evacuated the entire mall because several reports thought it was a bomb or gunshots.

I find the most peaceful and rewarding times to go see movies are the weekday matinees.

Only downside is that none of my friends can usually make those with me.

I was actually there when this happened. Came out of Non-Stop and there were cops everywhere.

We have a theater in my town that's one of those old school ones from the early days of movies (they also show performances on the stage in front of the screen as well as movies). and they had Skyfall playing there as part of a series of Oscar winning films (showing Django Unchained, Zero Dark, and Silver Linings etc). When you see the old 60s Aston Martin on the screen for the first time a guy behind me was like "oh hell yeah", when the classic bond theme kicked in you could tell he was loving it and when Bond popped open the ejector seat button people were laughing. When the Aston got blown up that guy was like "oh it's on now!" :funny:.

Oh my God, yes! That Skyfall scene gave me a hard-on. :o

I cant imagine what that must have been like for ya. Did you movie cutoff? i mean it hasnt even been 2 years yet since colorado theater shooting and too boot the marathon bombing.

That was rediculous if you ask me. For one that idiot had to be stupid to try that stunt and could have severly injured someone. Heck there were two off duty cops in the showing and what if they open fired by accident. Take away that incident, arundel mills in general is a nightmare on the weekends.

It's gotten so bad I'll generally wait for a Blu Ray before I go to the movies. I'm tired of almost getting into fights just because people wanna run their mouths during a movie. Do that **** at home. Movies are too costly these days to have the experience flushed down the toilet.

I wish we'd get one of those adult theaters where they serve food and alcohol. It would be nice to wrap the entire night into a single location.

Had a Movie Tavern back in the Philly area. That was the saddest part about moving to San Francisco.
