Rise of the Silver Surfer MR. FANTASTIC/Ioan Gruffudd DISCUSSION

Nope, he's the one they chose, and not much need to speculate on anyone else. He's Reed Richards for the next couple of movies.

As far as your choice for Clooney maybe if the following would have happened...

1). No batman movies...
2). And a stand alone movie for FF not a franchise...by the time the last movie rolls around he'll be in his 50's...

So because of the above, no to Clooney. Yes to Gruffudd.

Hey....I know he's the one they chose...geez. And he did a decent job. But he just did look the part or act the part. He was very Clark Kent-ish. They said he should "man-up" a little more in this 2nd movie. I hope so.

Already posted in the Set Reports thread but it should be here as well.Pic of Ioan near the set of FF2.

Ioan Gruffudd did a Fantastic job in the first movie protraying The Obsessed science geek character of Reed Richards . Now I want to see The Leader Of The Fantastic Four MR. FANTASTIC (Towards the end of the film in the fist movie with the final Battle against Doctor Doom, I saw for a brief bit Mr. Fantastic from the comics .) Now I want to see that explored alot deeper in FF :ROTSS .

*having seen FF2*

I 'liked' Ioan as Fantastic in FF1. I was a little undecided by him, but in FF2, his acting seems to have gotten tons better, IMO. His aging between the movies really helps in bringing the wisdom and intelligence to the character that we usually correlate between the comic character. He definitely takes the leadership role more prominently in the movie. His massive intelligence and geekiness is back in full swing.
The only bad thing with Mr. Fantastic in this movie is that the SFX for his character should've been a lot better looking. It was even cringeworthy at times.

I'm glad to hear Character wise Mr. Fantastic is seen more, However I'm upset that the CGI used for Mr. F isn't fantastic .

WTF, I thought Weta did the sfx. You telling me WETA didn't do an amazing job on Mr. F?

I thought Reed Richards was good in this movie. He took over and was the definite leader of the group.

Reed was great in this film, and I had noticed how big of a nose Ioan has

Reed was improved. We see him as a leader now. His effects needed some work still.

Definitely agree on this. needs more work. Still say Helen Parr's streching was better in the incredibles, even though it may be unfair to compare this and a cartoon.

Yeah, comparing a CGI cartoon to a movie is apples to oranges. She did look better, though.

Finally we say the leader Mr. Fantastic not just Nerdy scientist Reed Richards . Congrat to Ioan Gruffudd on improving and nailing it the part this time around .

As for the Dance of The Nerd's ...

(Emo Parker) vs. (Stretch' O)

I like the both actually (In a funny way)

It was nice to see Reed have fun with his powers , by dancing like a nerdy, and then sue showing up .

Remember how Johnny couldn't get the hang of flying in the first film until the very end? And then Sue gets torchified, and is floating around randomly with no control over where she's going or what direction she's facing?

Reed gets the torch's powers and within literally 2 minutes he's flying perfectly steady and spot-welding the London Eye back into place.

Is this a continuity error or just a sign that Reed is a genius at EVERYTHING... and Johnny is, by far, the largest moron of the group?

If Sue was calm and collected, she probably would've been able to control Johnny's powers better...

I thought Ioan did a terrific job of making the most of a lot of really lacklustre dialogue. Although, it has to be said, I did like his little 'let's tear the jock-general a new one' speech, done with quiet authority and a lot of nous. Nice.

In fact, that's one of the things I DID like about the film - the cast, for the most part, did really well with very little to work with. It didn't exactly stretch them - ouch - sorry about the bad pun.:o

Once again, it was the 92-minute running time and poor scripting that didn't really give them a chance, so in my book there's a lot of forgiveness for any plonking performances. Ioan did pretty well.

One of my friends turned to me, who didn't like him in the first movie, and said "He's actually pretty hot in this one". lol

That is corrected .

Reed was much better developed in this one and you could get the sense that he was the leader from the beginning. Just with scenes where the others would go to him in the lab where he was working and talk to him about different things. How he dealt with the general showed his confidence and leadership too. I liked when Reed yelled "shut up" to stop Ben and Johnny from bickering it showed him as the father-figure of the group. Reed and Ben's friendshihp was also better developed in this movie, but the best improvement was with his relationship with Sue.

I agree, I love Mr Fantastic even more now!
