MSJ talks Box Office, & GR2 and more.

FINALLY someone else who understands my pain.

I swear back when hulk was released, you couldn't just chill at this board and say how cool you thought it was that Ang Lee took the subject seriously. Everybody would jump on you and say he should have done it like raimi's spidey since back then spidey was the king of all comic films and anything that didn't match it was a waste of film.

So you're right, I'm absolutely convinced most people haven't a scooby clue about what they really want.

This is true. I mostly like The Hulk. It wasnt done to serious though, I think he did fine on that front.

The studios can never win. Either someone's whining about the films shouldn't be taking themselves so seroiusly like The Hulk, or that films shouldn't be so comic booky...which is ironic.

Quite.

Nobody can please everyone all of the time. It's a part of life. You're right, studios will never win. The opinion of hate will always be there, from somewhere, someone.

Anyway, there better be a sequel and I would want no other man to continue his story than Mark. The vocal few who didn't enjoy his film will just have to no see the sequel. Simple.

I gave GR a 7/10. What was cool was really cool but what didnt work sucked hard.

I would rather a director whos not going to make a fun popcorn flick aimed at 17 an under crowd. GR seemed to lighthearted considering what the source material is. It shouldnt have a FF aura it should be dark an tragic.

Dark and tragic have been done. The mix of dark and tragic with the fun was what I liked, personally.

Everything has been done. IMO your giving a pass on the direction of the film because you A)are huge fanboy B) talked an met the director himself.

I can understand liking the movie iv said it a few times I gave it a 7/10 myself. To tell me you wanted a light hearted FF type GR movie tells me you lowered your expectations simply to enjoy the movie. I dont lower expectations to enjoy a movie I take it for what it is an demand better if there going to do it again.

just seen it,

great movie

and has the right balance or dark and light hearted humour,

those who are saying it was "full of comedy" are nuts and dont have a clue

the movie is excellent, has brought us a character on to the big screen that 10 years ago would have been considered ridiculous and pathetic

just be glad that a studio bothered to give us fans a chance at seeing our favourite character on screen.

I rank this movie up with Blade as a good opener to this characters story.

The only thing i would have liked is for it to be a bit longer, other than that,
a great movie

it was nothing like the tone of fantastic four or spiderman,

it was a great mix of comic book with reality ala Blade.

Good Work director, much better than his Daredevil effort

i dont understand the hate its getting

Cage delivers well in this.

Im amazed you compare this to Blade. Thats all ill say.

all im saying is its not that bad as people are making out!

most of the public probably never heard of ghostrider

for a first attempt, its good

Your right its not as awful as some are making it, to us anyway.

The first attempt thing made me laugh.

sure, the movie was slightly too short and some people may have been expecting gore and guts,

but with the budget so high and with most general movie goers having no knowledge of ghost rider, its at least suceeded in giving ghost rider a reasonable start

Of course, if it was a Del Toro or a Raimi doing it, maybe the expectations would be higher from people.

I ask myself, what would James Cameron have done with this movie?

i dont know, but having seen and been let down by Superman returns from last year, possibly the most ive waited for any comic book movie (20 years),

anything half decent these days is acceptable lol

all in all though, what route do most people believe was acceptable for Ghostrider?

A pure blood, guts and complete adult movie ?
or the one they took?

with Ghostrider, according to many opinions, this character seems to be one of the hardest to give its accurate portrayal.

I ask myself, what would James Cameron have done with this movie?

indeed , what would have james cameron come up with?

we do know that cameron was at one point going to make spiderman,

but obviously that never came about,

a director who perhaps might have made the perfect film would be alex proyas

who made the "the crow" with Brandon Lee,
probably the darkest comic to film adaptation ive ever seen

is this the sort of settings that Ghost Rider should be in?
im not hugely familiar with Ghost Rider other than the basics,

Crow was an awesome film. It was almost perfect. Hellboy approached that level.

I think hellboy had a better balance of dark, serious and some comedy. I would of liked to have seen a del toro ghost rider movie but I still like MSJ's version. I think they could of toned down some of the silly lines and then it would of gone down better for some people. I personally enjoyed it but I understand why some people don't like the corny lines.

The one thing that bugged me (minor complaint) the stupid pointing. It was weird. Beside that I'm a happy camper and can't wait for the DVD.

Hey MSJ ditch the pointing in the sequel. Please unless Ghost Rider is doing it. I don't mind that.

You always have to up the ante in a sequel. More pointing!

The one thing all filmmakers eventually realise is that it's ALL been done before. They just need to find a way of doing that same thing in a different, unique style and add their touch to it.

indeed, its difficult though,

i mean, you have movies like "the crow", "Blade" which have set the bar high.

i doubt we will see anything as dark and haunting and visually amazing as the crow by alex proyas. Even though his Dark City movie was almost as good.

Maybe Stephen Norrington needs to come back and be given a chance to do another comic book character, I think he could bring us a good set of movies for a dark character. Ghost Rider would have been tailor made for him, just a shame he's refused to work since 2003!

We can be certain though, Del Toro would have brought us some amazing visuals and imagery,

just check out Pan's Labyrinth and his old Cronos movie, they really are amazing pieces of movie making.

He is just a really innnovative guy who loves making these dark/visually exciting movies.

ever since ALEX PROYAS made THE CROW
& improved his style of surreal noir with
DARK CITY (which for me is a very underrated great film)
i was dying to see him direct the BIGGER & darker superhero/comicbook characters

i think he'd be great for adaptations of
Spawn, Daredevil, and of course, Ghost Rider

anyway... wishful thinking

i would want him to revisit (& revive) THE CROW franchise too though

You know, just because I'm a huge fan boy and yes have met the director, doesn't mean I'm giving anything a pass. I genually had a great time while watching this movie and dont' understand where people are getting off saying that there was bad director. Sure, there may be tonnes of things that these people would have done differently but, that doesn't mean it was bad directing.

I never said I wanted a light hearted GR movie. I never said I wanted a dark R movie either. All I've ever wanted was just a movie about the character I love so much and when that movie turned out to be a really fun ride, I was very impressed.

I didn't lower any expectations. I just simply enjoyed.
