The Nintendo DS has to be the best gaming experience to date, even surpassing the consoles. It has so much to offer and the possibilities are endless, not to mention that it has a stellar catalogue of games.

THE ESSENTIALS
Mario Kart DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Metroid Prime: Hunters

THE BASICS
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Tetris DS
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

IF YOU HAVE MONEY TO SPARE
Brain Age
Trauma Center: Under the Knife

Great thread, I'm also planning on buying a DS Lite:up:

I keep hearing great thing about it.

yeah im happy to have this thread because I'm getting a Lite on the 11th, too.

WarioWare: Touched (great for on the go gaming)

New Super Mario Bros. (fun multiplayer and singleplayer experince)

Metroid Prime Hunters (the singleplayer on this pretty much sucks so if your looking for the single player experince get the GC versions, Online is incredible though way better then that crappy multiplayer experince on Prime 2)

Mario Kart (get this last out of the 4, the single player mode is too easy and you can get bored with the online after awhile other then that it is a great game)

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass will be another game to get when it comes out.

btw you should buy the upcoming final fantasy 3 games which had been ported to the DS

I acutally think the single player is phenomenal for a hand-held. I mean, which other hand-held game can offer such immersive visuals, gameplay, and audio? It really derseves more credit. It really opened up a lot of possiblities for hand-helds. It's at least solid.

Current Must-Buys
New Super Mario Bros. (The return of Mario sidescrolling. Does not disappoint.)
Metroid Prime: Hunters (Not really my thing, but a great FPS handheld)
Mario Kart DS (Best Mario Kart game ever.)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Great RPG)
Tetris DS (Very fun and entertaining)
Meteos (Very good and very unique puzzle game)
Super Mario 64 DS (Controls are a little tricky, but if you loved SM64, you'll love this.)

Upcoming Games
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Sequel to Wind Waker. Nuff said)
Diddy Kong Racing (It's back, and Rare is helping)
Star Fox DS (Back to Star Fox's on-rail roots)
Yoshi's Island (Return of Yoshi side-scrolling.)

I've heard from everywhere that the Lite comes out on the 11th but I hope I'm wrong. I'm trading in my Xbox and controllers and **** for money tommorow.. And then I'm going to preorder a Lite.

All the games sound so good.. Star Fox especially.. I remember Star Fox 64 being my first favorite game and playing it over and over and over again.

New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario 64 DS
Super Princess Peach
Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi:partners in time
Brain Age
Nintendogs
Tetris DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Warioware: touched

If you see something third party you'd like then take it...

THE ESSENTIALS
Mario Kart DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Metroid Prime: Hunters

Besides the new Zelda game, I can't think of any other DS games that are must buys. I just don't think it's worth the money.

It's certainly more worth it than the PSP.

That is debateable. It all depends on your tastes.

The Nintendo DS has Super Mario 64, New Super Mario Bros., and Metroid Prime: Hunters. It will be getting the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Final Fantasy III, Starfox Command, and the potential of Nintendo 64 ports (Nintendo, please port the Donkey Kong, Starfox, and Legend of Zelda games from the Nintendo 64 on to the Nintendo DS)

The Playstation Portable has Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, the Metal Gear Acid series, and Daxter. It will be getting Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

They both have good games

psp still doesnt have a huge game besides grand theft auto. ds has a big hand full of hugely popular games

nintendos was huge, highest selling game in japan for that year. and huge sales here. mario kart and new super mario bros is huge along with metroid prime and animal crossing.

the psp doesnt have any hype on it right now with the games comming out. ds has starfox, the new zelda and many more.

1. The Playstation Portable is doing just as good if not slightly better than the Nintendo DS in Europe and North America. Only in Japan is where the Playstation Portable is getting ass raped by the Nintendo DS and is the only reason why the Nintendo DS has a decent leadership margin in the handheld wars.

2. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for the Playstation Portable got much bigger hype than the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Starfox: Command for the Nintendo DS did. Mostly because it's a Metal Gear title and the kick ass graphics for it. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories will get a lot of hype once more information is released for those titles.

Except the DS currently has more good games with a future looking better everyday.

MGS got more hype than PH b/c Nintendo has been focusing more on Wii than the DS for obvious reasons.

You forgot Syphon Filter, which was pretty damn kickass. And the PSP version of Ridge Racer was the best entry in the series since R4 on the PS. Racing far or not, I fail to see how anyone can't enjoy this game.

I agree with the anti-PSP sentiment. It's utterly useless, and the games are just poor.
