I'm going to use this thread to post some of my heroes. I would appreciate it if someone could maybe shade/color this first one to give me an idea how to do it. I'm new to this so I'm not that good at it.

Whirlwind

To give a background on this character, his code name is Whirlwind and his real name is Jonathan Silverwolf. He is a Native American who gained his power of controlling destructive winds through an ancient amulet that symbolizes wind. He wears the amulet embedded in the chest of his suit . He received it from his ancestors. His controlling of winds also gives him the ability of flight.

He has dark hair and eyes with tanned skin. He is 6'0" tall and weighs 205 lbs.

Butterfingers

I just finished penciling this one since posting the last one. His code name is Butterfingers. His real name is Mark Brite. He is a villian. He stands 6' 2" and weighs 223 lbs. He has the ability to generate a tremendous amount of greasy substance from his hands. This substance, though slippery at first, will harden. He can also use this ability to travel by make a greasy slide, much like Iceman's except that he can't build bridges due to the substance not drying quick enough to sustain his weight. He travels over land with his slide, if needed. He received this ability because of a curse that was placed over him by a sorceress whom he attempted to rob.

(I was going to try to color it in paint, but it looked crappy, so I may try it later when I get home with photoshop elements)

Drop Hammer

Here is Drop Hammer. His real name is Shayne Sharpe. He is part of the supervillian group known as The Craftsmen. He is 6' 9" tall and weighs 410 lbs. He has superstrength and a pair of forged steel gloves, that when combined with his strength, can cause a great deal of damage when he smashes them into things.

Here's my attempt at coloring Whirlwind. I don't know what color to make his skin though. I can't seem to find a good color. Anyone know how to make skin colors in photoshop?

I'll probably try to fix up the other ones to make them look better too, one of these days. They were pretty quick sketches.

Now I have the skin colored. I'm still learning my photoshop program. I don't know too much about it, but I found some more colors which helped me with the skin tone.

I think I'm going to redraw the other two because I don't like how they look. I'll probably give them different costumes.

I need to come up with a background.

I don't think that colour really works for him. It seems more fitting for Butter Finger's.

I agree with you, but I was trying to come up with something that seemed native american. I can change it though.

I've redesigned Drop Hammer and also added in a couple of his supervillian team members, Grind Stone and Arc Weld.

Here is a pair of superheroines who happen to be twins. There code names are Footloose and Fancy Free, real names are Donna and Jonna Free respectively. Footloose is able to run at superhuman speeds while Fancy has the ability to fly and also possesses superhuman strength.

I wish I could draw better, but I'm still learning.

I drew this picture of Reed Richards by looking at it in my "You Can Draw Marvel Characters" book. I just bought it yesterday. Hopefully it'll help my drawings get better.

Thanks. If I'm not looking at something for reference, I have a big problem with faces and hands/fists, among other things.

Here's one I did of cyclops from the same book.

Great lookin' sketches man.

Not everyone is fantastic at drawing from imagination. Some of the greatest artists around use models.

If you keep pracitcing you'll get better and will be able to draw from your imagination more.

The How To Draw the Marvel Way is a good book to learn from and it's how I started as well.

Everybody uses photo references, look at Alex Ross, he's one of the best artists out there and he only uses photo reference, there isn't anything wrong with that.

That is very good. Keep practicing, you've got talent
he sure does keep up the good work

Thanks guys. I didn't realize that comic book artists used other references for their drawings. I thought they were just using their imagination. That's nice to know.

I went to a comic convention and showed some of my work. (This was years ago, when I was still in high school) and the guy gave some good crit, but talked about the "swipe" file. After that I started building my collection of reference material, I have tons on the computer, books and pages from Magazines to use if I need it.

Here's Whirlwind, Footloose, and Fancy working together.

Here's a drawing, so far without references, of Grindstone pounding a superhero named The Anchor in the face. I'm having a problem drawing the hero getting smacked, therefore he's not there yet.
