So, I'm having a conversation with my roommate tonight, and we get on the topic of comic book movies, as he had just seen Spidey 3. He goes on to say that its his favorite comic movie and asks me what mine is. I say Batman Begins, and this is the conversation that followed.

Him: "Batman Begins is the most ******ed thing to ever happen to the Batman movies."
Me: "F**k no! Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, almost ruined the franchise AND the character! They had f**king nipples on the batsuit for christsakes!"
Him: "They were better than Batman Begins, at least he wasn't a ninja in them."
Me: "He's trained as a ninja in the freaking comics!"
Him: "The comics don't matter. This is the movies"
Me: "ITS A F**KING COMIC BOOK MOVIE!"

He went on to say that it wasn't supposed to be accurate, it was just an adaptation. Thats the point when I left the room. I don't know if that severe of mental disability is contagious or not.

Is he comic book fan or not, if not he may just be messing with you, my roomate used to pull crap like that on me last year.

He's right, but that doesn't make his opinion any less stupid.

The point of adaptations is to accurately translate the source material though. If I make a movie where Flash was a punk kid on roller blades with no super speed, people would call it a piss-poor adaptation would they not?

The only people that get all 'Up-in-Arms' about Comic Movies sticking to source material is Comic Geeks.

With that said, your roommate is an idiot.

I'm not all up in arms about it, I'm just pissed that the thing that made him hate the movie is something that is so faithful that many comic fans joygasmed over it.

One question though. With a forum literally dedicated to Comic books and movie adapations of them.... Why the EFF is this in the community forum? :woot:

Here's a theory.

Perhaps your room-mate didn't like Batman being a ninja because...he's a PIRATE! :o

You both suck. Batman Forever and Batman Begins were great movies. But we can all agree the Batman and Robin sucks for the most part. I mean unless you're a kid.

......or a kid when you saw it
....Which is why I still sorta like it.
*puts head down in shame*

No. Batman Forever was NOT a great movie.

Don't worry, you're not alone. :csad:

...Well, except the "still sorta like it," part. :o

Right, it ruined the character of Two-Face, and had Bruce Wayne screaming among a crowded circus, "I'm BATMAN!" Not to mention a 20 something Robin...

Batman Forever makes me think of summertime and youth and happiness. :csad:

Oh and to update on the situation, I went out to the kitchen to make some Ramen, and he was watching Robot Chicken. It was a scene where Joel Schumacher was being protected from comic geeks at a con. My roommate goes:
"Why do they hate Joel Schumacher? Who is he?"
"He's the idiot who decided it was smart to put nipples on the batsuit!"

You are obviously into comics and comic movies. What is your roommate into?

I can remember being in a bookstore the summer before the movie came out and looking at the kids' adaptation of the movie. Batman and Robin were on the cover, dur. And I picked the book up, showed it to my mom, and pointed out the nipples. It was the first thing I noticed. And I knew it was wrong somehow.

I still liked the movie. :csad:

Well everybody has different tastes and opinions. I don't see what the big fuss is about. :|

begins? see everyone who wants to take the safe road jumps on the begins bandwagon.

Well not me. I'm a batman and robin fan till I die, woo!
