National Day of Repentance! (Warning: Spoiler)

Ugh. I was stuck in a conference call while this discussion hurtled forward. I think LogansRunt and Wil have said about everything I could possibly hope to and more, and probably more eloquently as well.

Squeekness had a good comparison Solid.

Why was the reaction to 9/11 so much greater and better than that to Katrina?

If Katrina was after the Twin Towers attack should they have not been better prepared? Just wondering.

I agree that the Tsunami response was more for international face saving, which is a whole other discussion.

The lack of response sucked. As for why the public response I think it's much easier if humans are behind it and not nature. If you can point to a villian everyone can get behind it, but nature? I mean don't get me wrong we are making the earth pay but we can't declare war on it.

The Tsunami was face saving but it was also a disaster that killed over 100 times the amount of people.

The next Headline on CNN!

"BUSH DECLARES ON NATURE!"

In a shocking move today, George W. Bush has declared war on Nature, saying that the United States has suffered long enough from the unprecedented attacks of Nature and that this nation will no longer stand for it.

"Well you know, I was talking to Dick and we decided that Nature had handed us some major setbacks recently, but that the Hurricanes and floods that we have endured in recent history are the final Straw," said the President.

"Now as I understand it, these storms start in Africa, so the first thing we are going to do is bomb the area to create a nice flat surface so we can build a wall to prevent the wind from generating the energy it needs to start these storms."

While the media looked on in disbelief, Wolf Blitzer was able to ask one question before the slide show began.

"Uhm, Mr. President, won't the bombing of those countries be an act of war on those countries?"

"Well that a good question Wolf, nice suit by the way, but no. You see since this is a unilateral first strike on Nature, the UN has assured us that the nations in question will participate, as the construction of the wall will provide those countries with some much needed work for the next decade" ...

There is supposed to be a separation of church and state in this country. A holiday like this does not uphold that. Nor does it take anyone but Christians into account. And, the last time I checked, the President wasn't authorized by any church to declare any day at all an official day for repentance. Not only that, but not every Christian faction recognizes repentance, so it's even causing division amongst Christians. Lame.

P.S. - Thanks for being all Christian-like and calling us a bunch of ****ers, Spider-Who.

Who said other church that practice under different belief can't join in? Not leading to conclusion are we now?

there's been some interesting discussions in this thread.

...along with some uncomfortable love-fests. :down

i doubt this story is real, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. oh the irony of bush creating a national repenting day...

if'n it is real, i'm gonna repent the **** outta my sins! yeeehaawww!!!

i should switch over to the republican party. then i can be as immoral as i want and still judge everyone else, as long as i hide behind the bible.

Please don't attempt to follow the discussion that has taken place already concerning that point. It will break your brain.

You guys are getting pretty worked up over something that was obviously made up just to get you guys worked up. A lousiana preacher's daughter had a vision and then got the president to endorse it?

How is anyone buying this?

Arizona preacher...LOLZ. I could careless if not a single one of them believe it...All I can say is I can't wait for April 2008...The whole event is being organized by churches around the U.S. and the President said he would also be apart of the rival, so it matters not if you or anyone believes it. Are a pity party about politics, the upholding of the constitution, I careless....b/c it's going to be freaking awesome, and many many many people will find peace and many many people will find hope. So I'm happy, b/c our nation/world is in pain and needs to have something to help them find hope....

Did you go to church after September 11 with your families? Why did you? B/c you were in Pain, and didn't know what to do so you feel on your knees and prayed for you, your families, and those that died. Yea why didn't you keep on going? Hmmm.

Eureka!!! I think I struck oiL!

two questions:

1) why does something that's supposed to be a personal matter need a national holiday?

2) do you have a link to this story so we can stop speculating whether it's real or made-up?

At this moment, you'll just have to believe that it's speculation b/c it will not hit the media for sometime...and I'm glad the media doesn't know. THe media twists everything! My pastor as well as pastor around the U.S. have been keeping in contact with what is going on and are organizing the event. I really can't tell you all the details, sooo just keep on speculating. I can tell you that Bush has set this to be somewhere around Apirl 2008. I know the 2 dates, but I'm most definitely not going to tell. haaaha LoLz Sorry

can "national circumcision day" be far behind?

The question is, "Will the circumcision-getting demographic help out my party?" If the answer is yes, then expect it to be put in place coming May 2008. Now all we need is some young Pastor's son to bring it to the President to make a good PR story.

throw in a vet giving his purple heart medal to bush and maybe a brain-dead woman on life support you've got yourself a humdinger of a PR event!

Yes, and last I checked, Deists still believed in God, as well as these 4 mind sets:
God exists and created the universe.

God wants human beings to behave morally.

Human beings have souls that survive death; that is, there is an afterlife.

In the afterlife, God will reward moral behavior and punish immoral behavior.

The last 3 of which are dependent on repentence. Whats your point?

Repentence is a universal concept. You all are just getting hung up on the stereotypical christain aspect of it. EVERYONE repents. You know how you ****ed up your last relationship, and you promised that with the next girl, you wouldnt make that mistake again? Guess what, thats repentence. You dont have to be religious to be penatent.

Essentially, the concept of "god" with the deist worldview is: god created the universe and then said "ooo a puppy" and followed the puppy, leaving the universe to fend for itself.

Repentance means humbling yourself not just to your own thinking, but also to God. He does exist, and in the end, He will pour out righteous eternal judgment on those who refuse to seek forgiveness through Christ. We get only one shot (this mortal life) to determine where we will end up: eternally joyous with Christ, or eternally separated from Him in hell. We make the choice by whether we accept Christ as the Son of God and our Savior with our spirit; that's the kicker. Grace is actually a very simple concept. The key is accepting the fact that we don't deserve it, yet God offers it willingly. All He asks is for us to "have the faith of a child", and come to Him.
