Neil Blompkamp's Chappie

I do like that he is doing original sci fi and I want him to continue to do that but I'd like to see something that's not D9 in different wrapping paper. Even though I've been *****ing about the film I will try to see it if I have the cash. Love Jackman and I think Copley is awesome.

I saw the new trailer with The Imitation Game today. The structure was weird, but I loved what I saw. Hugh with the binoculars needs to become a meme. :funny:

Isn't the most similar thing the wrapping paper?

All of his protagonists have been individuals on the run from some sort of evil government / corporation.

I'm starting to think he's a one trick pony.

It's a cool looking trick though, I will give him that.

I think he has alot of talent but you are right about the similar wrapping paper. If they literally gave him the shooting script for say the new jurassic park he'd be forced to apply his interesting vision to 'something new' vs this safe area he resides. I mean these robots and these outskirt cities and corporate folks in chairs and bounty hunter guy, halo weapons...

At the very least I think a switch in genres would be interesting, if I heard he was making a fantasy movie of the lotr vain. Presto. Have Sharlto be an impoverished magic user or something.
Still, D9 was well received for a reason and I refuse to believe it was a fluke, no reason why this film doesn't have just as much going for it. I'd say it has more given he's had a failure.

Yeah maybe a genre shift would do him some good. I like your idea of him just doing a straight fantasy film.

New Trailer

[YT]lyy7y0QOK-0[/YT]

Looks like it could be a sequel District 9, at first I thought Hugh Jackman was going to be the good guy but the trailer progressed in a different manner than I expected.

Charlie is going to be very very easy to root for. Ill probably watch this. I love seeing an underdog overcoming a bully.

Oh, this second trailer killed my buzz a little, it doesn't look like the same film I was expecting from trailer 1.

I thought Jackman was just going to be against AI, but it seems he has his own tech he is trying to sell. It looks a lot like Robocop, and for me it had more an elsyium feel in that second trailer.

It's Robocop 2014 meets Short Circuit. And I'm not saying that to be snarky.

BTW, when I first read about Chappie, I thought the title character would be more of a prankster slacker type.

I must say the first trailer for this looked pretty ordinary but this one has convinced me to maybe give this film a shot.

This looks like a better RoboCop remake than the RoboCop remake. Still, I hope this is just being a more action centric trailer and the film is more in line with Trailer 1.

I'm just disappointed it's not a comedy, like it was originally reported to be. I think the change in genre would have been good for Blompkamp.

Because of his hair, I want Jackman for Captain Planet.

I guess I'm in the minority because I really enjoyed Elysium, but I am a little worried that the Jackman/Weaver relationship is just a replica of the Foster/Copley from before.

The first trailer was great and unique, while the second trailer showed that this movie will be more by-the-numbers and predictable, which is unfortunate.

Yeah, that one robot looked a LOT like an ED-209. Hopefully it was an intentional homage.

I too don't think the second trailer was as good. Your assessment is sound.

Hugh Jackman is generally so likable that I think they felt they had to give him a gross mullet in order to make people hate him.

I think, and it's sad to say, that this trailer will win over more viewers as opposed to the first one. It will get asses in seats.
