Ok, the last time I did this, I tried treating the DTL like it's always been treated. This time, I think we'll treat it a bit more like the RPG Fight Club.
A big downfall with previous seasons are players who commit to play, but either can't or don't stick with the game. I think this time we're going to spell out and require the commitment up front, as well as try and streamline things, thereby lessening the burden required by both writers and readers.
Basically, we want this to be fun, not a chore.
So, as the first step, if you wish to own a team, I present to you the all new DTL application. (You do not need to fill out this app if you only wish to read and vote on matches.)
Dream Team League Season VII Application
Screen Name:
Co-Owner Screen Name (if applicable):
Team Name:
Major Rules:
What can you bring to the game (two full sentences, minimum):
Do you have any ideas or suggestions (not required):
What days are you most likely to be able to write and read (weekends only, weekdays only, any day, specific days, etc...):
We're looking for either 8, 10, or 12 teams this season. Previous experience has shown that more teams is not always a better thing, so if there is enough interest to warrant more than 12 teams, we suggest teaming up with another player. Even if you do not get a team, we welcome your participation in reading and voting on matches, as well as joining in with all discussions. And we'll be sure to keep you in mind for next season, or in case a team needs a new owner this season.
You can find a more detailed list of rules used last season here. There will be an opportunity to discuss possible rule changes before the season starts, so if you have any ideas or questions, feel free to speak up in this thread.
One important rule that will be strictly enforced is NO FLAMING! This became a serious problem in previous seasons. Talking **** is fine. Even arguing is good. But flaming will not be tolerated. First offense will result in a one week suspension and forfeiture of match. Second offense will result in expulsion from the League for the season.

Dream Team League Season VII Application
Screen Name:
Co-Owner Screen Name (if applicable):
Team Name:
Major Rules:
- Teams consist of 5 characters; 2 Ubers, 1 Medium, 2 Regulars (think Superman & Thor, Aquaman & Vision, Batman & Spider-Man).
- Characters can come from mainstream Marvel and DC universes including Vertigo and Wildstorm. No Amalgam.
- Characters above a certain power level are considered too uber and are banned from use. The Silver Surfer and Green Lanterns are towards the top of legal characters.
- You can carry a roster of 12 characters to build your team from.
- Each week you will write a match of how your team will defeat your opponent's team.
- Your teams are allowed 24 hours of prep-time on the battlefield before the fight where they get to see the pictures and names of their opponents. No using any outside resources during prep-time they wouldn't normally have access to.
- You will have 2 days and 2 posts to write your prep-time (if any) and battle. Then you will have 1 day and 1 post to write a rebuttal to your opponent.
- Then there will be 2 days for readers to vote for who they are most convinced to win.
- Then there will be a 2 day break to rest and plan the next week's lineups.
- The season will start with a draft, so you will need to create a draft list of potential characters for you team's roster.
- You must be willing to commit to at least 12-14 weeks of play.
- There will be at least two bye weeks without play to rest. Extra days for writing and voting may be granted for holidays.
- Occasional theme weeks will occur throughout the season to spice things up (special battlegrounds, mind-swapping, regulars only, etc...)
- In all matters, final decision rests solely with the Commissioner and are final.
- Sign your screen name here to indicate you have read and agree to these, and all other, rules:
