New DTL Recruitment Thread

Yeah, if you're on the fence, you aren't being put on the owner list. Once all the slots are filled, you're ****ed.
If owning a team by yourself seems like too much, you can always get with another poster and own a team together.

Remember though, baring any unforeseen circumstances, you're in it for the long haul. This isn't like an RPG where you can sign up for a character and then decide to drop them a few weeks into it. You do that, you **** everything up. So make sure you're in it to win it before committing.

Also, Wieg...how are we handling alternate versions of characters (i.e. Red Son Superman, Vampire Batman, Cosmic Spidey, etc)?

Also, Wieg...how are we handling alternate versions of characters (i.e. Red Son Superman, Vampire Batman, Cosmic Spidey, etc)?

Only two versions of a character can exist.

So if someone has Superman, and someone has Superman Blue, that's two Clark Kents. No more allowed.

But we can have twenty Green Lanterns as long as one is Kyle, one is Alan, one is Kilowag, one is Hal...

Or, I guess, two can be Kyle, two can be Alan, ...

So, the list of owners thus far is...

Ahura Mazda
Blacklight
SuperFerret

Close to the goal of at least 8 teams.

And yet no one's filled out an application yet.

No one gets a team without filling out an app that I can hold over your head.

Seriously.

That's right. I'm so serious, the Hype double posted for me.

I didn't know we were supposed to do that here?

....why you gotta go and point out the loopholes?

Screen Name: Johnny Blaze
Co-Owner Screen Name (if applicable): None

Team Name: The Blazing Horde

Major Rules:
  • Teams consist of 5 characters; 2 Ubers, 1 Medium, 2 Regulars (think Superman & Thor, Aquaman & Vision, Batman & Spider-Man).
  • Characters can come from mainstream Marvel and DC universes including Vertigo and Wildstorm. No Amalgam.
  • Characters above a certain power level are considered too uber and are banned from use. The Silver Surfer and Green Lanterns are towards the top of legal characters.
  • You can carry a roster of 12 characters to build your team from.
  • Each week you will write a match of how your team will defeat your opponent's team.
  • Your teams are allowed 24 hours of prep-time on the battlefield before the fight where they get to see the pictures and names of their opponents. No using any outside resources during prep-time they wouldn't normally have access to.
  • You will have 2 days and 2 posts to write your prep-time (if any) and battle. Then you will have 1 day and 1 post to write a rebuttal to your opponent.
  • Then there will be 2 days for readers to vote for who they are most convinced to win.
  • Then there will be a 2 day break to rest and plan the next week's lineups.
  • The season will start with a draft, so you will need to create a draft list of potential characters for you team's roster.
  • You must be willing to commit to at least 12-14 weeks of play.
  • There will be at least two bye weeks without play to rest. Extra days for writing and voting may be granted for holidays.

  • In all matters, final decision rests solely with the Commissioner and are final.
  • Sign your screen name here to indicate you have read and agree to these, and all other, rules:

Johnathan Blaze Esquire III

What can you bring to the game (two full sentences, minimum): I'm a DTL veteran and the dirty SOB who started this thing, so I've got a lot of experience on how this **** goes. I like to think I'm a fairly decent writer, and I'm a huge fantasy sports fan. And the DTL is pretty much fantasy football, only with comic characters who kill each other every week in mega-super-happy deathmatches.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions (not required): Yes. I should be allowed to have Thanos. :cmad:

What days are you most likely to be able to write and read (weekends only, weekdays only, any day, specific days, etc...): My schedule is never a set thing, but I usually have at least some down time during a day that I spend ****ing around on the computer. So any day is as good as the other for me.

What days are you most likely to be able to write and read (weekends only, weekdays only, any day, specific days, etc...):

Weekdays only and mostly when all of you are asleep.

What can you bring to the game (two full sentences, minimum): I know how the DTL works due to my brief participation years ago, so i can bring some experience, and I have a good, if not better understanding of both the DC and Marvel Universes. Something that'll help how I approach the upcoming Season.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions (not required): An idea I had was that the number of team members would vary once in a while. Rather than 1 or 5 like regular matches, we could also have one week were it's 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, etc...

What days are you most likely to be able to write and read (weekends only, weekdays only, any day, specific days, etc...): Depends on when I'm working, but I have alot more time now.

I like the idea of a theme week with it 2 on 2 or what not. Adds a little wrinkle to the scheme of things.

JB, AH, and BL are all approved.

And Johnny Blaze is officially my first Lieutenant. Which means if I'm absent, he has the authority to murder and sacrifice in my name.

And to be fair...

So how many seasons did it run last time before this revival?

Also, Remind me, how long does a season typically last?

It stalled out in Season 4, we had a strong season 5, then season 6 fizzled out.

Just a quick breakdown of how everything works for our new players.

I'll put out a list of all matchups for the season. We'll have a couple of days between matches to finalize what teams we want to use. You'll post your lineup in the Transactions thread (links at the bottom). You and your opponent can keep changing lineups until a certain time at which point the lineups will be locked.

The Transactions thread is also where you'll announce any lineup changes, or if you want to announce trades for characters on other teams.

The Discussion Thread is for general discussion about anything in the game or outside. (Think of it like the Dungeons and Flagons thread, but also with possible DTL discussion).

The Rankings thread is where we talk about what characters should be ranked. It also has pretty good lists of characters of various power levels.

The Update thread houses our rules, as well as lineups, and matches, our win/loss records, and the characters on our teams. It's basically a big FAQ.

We have four threads because, when it was all in one thread, there was so much activity that was very common for important posts to go unnoticed.

Also, each week I'll post the matches. Each match getting their own thread. Owners will have two days to post their battles. On the third day, they can post a rebuttal. Then there will be two days for voting. Then two days to prepare for the next week.

Feel free to look through the DTL sub-forum. I recommend the season 5 battles if you want to look at those. Participation was higher, and their weren't as many arguments (season 6 got nasty at points, which I hope to avoid this time).
