MINISTER HAGEN PROMOTES B.C. FILM INDUSTRY

December 13, 2006 - Minister responsible for film Stan Hagen visits the set of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, shot in downtown Vancouver. Earlier in December, Minister Hagen and representatives from the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia (MPPIA) and the BC Film Commission met with Los Angeles film industry leaders to promote British Columbia as a film production location.

Those pics from the airport shoot make me feel much better about Sue's wig situation - she looks great.

See I told everyone it would look better when they were filming.

when they showed the behind the scenes she jus had the wig plooped onto her head. she didn't have anything do yet to it.

I am sooooooooooo pleased with the way Susan's hair looks in those photos. The shots I've seen thusfar have been less than impressive to me. But those--Jessica looks HOT...and again, somehow more believeable as the character.

Totally agree. She's got that 60's Austin Powers Sex Kitten thing going on. *Schwing!!* Love it.

On another note, in the last pic, it seems she has taken over directing from Tim Story. Watch out Tim! This woman has ambitions! :woot:

It seems people are no longer afraid of The Thing, if they are letting their kids be picked up for photo ops.... I wonder how long after the first movie this one is supposed to take place? Two years, like real life?

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY FOR RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER NEWS!

Larry Blanford

http://www.pal-item.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070109/NEWS13/701090329/1007

In May, Blanford started work on "The Kingdom" with Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner.

"While in the third week of shooting, I then got called to interview as the Main Unit Director of Photography on the sequel to 'Fantastic Four,' (on which Blanford was second unit director of photography).

"Apparently, it was a decent interview as Tim Story, director, hired me as the DP. Finally, making the leap from second unit to main unit. (It) wouldn't have hurt to do something smaller first, as opposed to the $130 million budget on 'FF2'... but what the hell," Blanford said.

"I left for Vancouver on July 15th and got back to L.A. right before Christmas. It was a long, hard shoot (80 shoot days) but I'm quite pleased with the end result. Jessica Alba was a peach along with the rest of the cast ... so that made life a bit easier. Although we wrapped principal photography there is still a bit to shoot. I'm headed off to Hong Kong and Thailand in a couple of weeks to shoot some background photography for the third act," he said.

"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" is scheduled for a June release.

The move from second unit to main unit has long been a goal of Blanford, who has become known in Hollywood for his action and aerial cinematography. He got his start in the Air Force where he did aerial shots for the "Top Gun" movie because only authorized military personnel were allowed in the jet cockpits.

Among his credits are second unit direction on "Yours, Mine and Ours," "Fantastic Four," "Taxi," "Along Came Polly," "Paycheck," "Minority Report," "Tears of the Sun," and the Hoosier film, "Madison."

Kerry Washington is a guest co-host on "The View" on ABC today.
I think it's repeated on one of the cable networks later today, either Lifetime or Oxygen. At least it used to be.

She looks incredible. Every bit as beautiful as Alba, in my opinion.

On "The View," Kerry mentioned having recently returned from Vancouver after wrapping "the sequel to Fantastic Four." (At this point, Rosie O'Donnel mentioned Julian McMahon and how "yummy" he is; apparently she's a longtime fan.)
Then Kerry talked about seeing the news in Canada and being shaken by the tv news there, which showed the flag-draped coffins of American servicemen coming off planes. A discussion ensued about the media blackout on such coverage here, with even resident conservative Elizabeth agreeing that it should be shown.

The media should never use the deaths of soliders to support their own agenda/cause, etc...It's tacky and not every family of a killed solider agrees with the media and many still don't like their children or spouses being used that way.

Good news on the cinematogrpaher,he has some good stuff in the action department under his belt

Thanks for the reports, guys. Good to know all the details. Let me know if Kerry says anymore about her FF2 experience. I refuse to watch the View. My man-parts might fall off.

That's a good report about the guy who moved up from second-unit. He is biased, of course, but it looks like he is happy with how things turned out. Pretty much all the reports make it sound like things went more smoothly this time around, and the cast and crew worked well together. I also liked hearing about the far east locations he will be shooting. It bodes well for a more "epic" feel to this movie. I keep feeling this movie has a chance of being a *lot* better than the first one... and I liked the first one. :word:

Some in the media may very well have an agenda (I think we see that on both CNN and Fox, at different ends of the spectrum) but the blackout on what should be public information is more disturbing to me. As if by keeping us from seeing our kids returning home in boxes, we'll somehow not realize it's happening and worry about who's winning American Idol instead
And every coffin is identical, so there's no violation of privacy as I see it.
To me, the sacrifice these people have made is what is being censored.

That's the point. Nobody wants nameless coffins being used in any way to boost one's agenda/cause. It's not right. If the parents of the deceased want to come out and protest, or if anyone wants to go out and protest or fight for their cause that's fine but it's not right to use those images from dramatic effect. Forget the 10's of thousands of people killed by Sadamm in mass graves. People forget that the armed forces are exactly what they are. Too many thought joining would mean an easy 4 years, they'd get an education, get paid, and get out and NOW when someone is facing danger and people get killed suddenly the US is the villain and the war is wrong. Nobody was forced to join the armed forces. And honestly something had to be done and Bush Senior was pressured out the first time and we abandoned the people of that country and thousands more people were killed, tens of thousands tortured, and or starved to death.

Let's debate this somewhere else. LOL Unless we're comparing Saddamm to Doom.

Sorry.

What dramatic effect? It's about freedom of information, a free press.
That's the American way, last time I checked.
I'm not against our actions overseas for the most part, but I'm very much against blacking out coverage. Sanitizing and censoring this thing is what's disrespectful to our servicemen, in my opinion.
It was okay to show the dead returning home in every previous war, but not this one? Forget that. I think every plane unloading coffins should be carried live and every name read with Taps playing. Our people should be publicly acknowledged with honor for their sacrifice.
If some factions use that to propagandize, that's part of the price of having a free society.

Who's forgotten that? Saddam and his evil freakazoid sons threw innocent live people into industrial plastic shredders for fun.
I wish we'd had more nations backing us, but I'm personally glad we deposed the S.O.B. and hangin' was far too good for him.
But I missed the part where Bush Sr. was "pressured" to stop short of Baghdad in '91. Plenty of his advisors felt the job should be finished. I'm not sure there's ever been a good reason given for letting Saddam's reign continue back then. It probably would have saved thousands of lives -on both sides- if the military had been allowed to finish the job at that time.

Let's debate this somewhere else. LOL Unless we're comparing Saddamm to Doom.
Agreed on that.
Of course if we were in the comics section of the forums, we could. FF writer Mark Waid made some pretty obvious allusions to Saddam's terrible legacy of torture and murder in 2003 when Reed Richards decided to basically create an interim government in Latveria after Doom was presumed dead. They discovered a secret execution chamber and lots of other nasty stuff.

But yeah, back on topic.
