Don Payne (writer) talks FF sequel!!!

I'll post it again, the F4 should be done seriously!! There were light moments in the comics, but the serious drama of the situations were way more in number. F4 is not a lighthearted funny book, at least not the real blueprint, not the real source material that king Kirby created!

Make this movie hardcore and serious, with Silver Surfer and especially Galactus arriving it shouldn't be done any other way!!

What makes the FF so different and so great is the dysfunciton and comedy. What are you talking about?

We all have our opinions of what the Fantastic Four are all about. Mine is family, some is their adventures, some is the science, some is the comedy. What's nice about all of this is......the movie can be all of those things, and to only hit one of them, to me, would be a mistake. As long as the four are the focus of the film, all of the other things that have been mentioned can revolve around that in my opinion.

Yes it can have touches of the other elements, but those touches should be based in a serious action packed story, not some lightweight comedy like the first movie! I just couldn't take the first movie seriously as the F4!

It was just way too lighthearted!!

True, but I don't want a Batman Begins darkness either. A good balance is what I'm looking for.

Don't get me wrong, I loved BB but it was BB not F4.

Any body had a change of opinion about Don Payne, after the lackluster performance of My Super Ex Girlfriend, or has anyone seen it ? 11.8 million WW.

I love your avitar, but can you see Sue Storm saying I got sand in my booty ? However I will gladly help her get the sand out.

I agree with that but what set it apart from the other films was the comedy element of the characters and the dysfunctional family theme. At least that's what Stan Lee and company said.

And I agree with that....but I'm also a realist, and that realist in me says one of the reasons they said that was because it was getting compared to Batman Begins...and compared not in a good way.

I think all of those must be strong in the next one....IMO....for the movie to be what it should be.

Reed was a puss in the first one. Thank God they recognized that and as Winter said they're going to make him a strong leader in this one.

Ummmmm you do know that Sue is a Comicbook character PORTRAYED by an actress named Jessica Alba......right?

And that last part....I don't know.....something seems so wrong about that statement.

just.....eeewww

For me...the key elements have always been family, comedy and action against other super villains. I never saw it as a deeply serious comic. It did have scenes of seriousness though.

I felt the first FF really captured my feelings for the comic.

But you know...in the early comics he was kind of a wuss. It took time for him to get into the more mature, STRONGER Reed we have today.

I don't recall Reed ever being a wuss... he was the leader from day 1.

Issue 1:
He was the person who forced the issue with the initial rocket launch.
He was the one who determined it was the FF's duty to form a hero group.
He led the charge to Monster Island after he determined that the disturbances centered around there.

Issue 2:
Pretty much boldly outsmarted the leader of the Skrull Armada.

Later issues showed his actions dictated by the challenges put before him... but he never shied away from the responsibility of leadership. The only times he faltered was when he worked to exhaustion in trying to cure Ben.

Here's what I thought:

Just got back from My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

It wasn't Shakespeare by any means, but it was entertaining and fun, light entertainment.

It had a very familiar feel to it . . . like 100 other romantic comedies you've seen before, but I think that may have had more to do with Ivan Reitman's direction than the script. The story did have some unique and creative elements, though nothing about it was spectacular.

Also it wasn't goofball or over-the-top comedy. The comedy was based on the characters and situations, so I think that bodes well.

Payne clearly has the ability to craft a cohesive, fun story at the least. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the FF.

. . . but keep in mind, I am a hopeless optimist.;)

I felt the movie had so much potential...so many spoofs they could have used...but instead they decided to rely on recycling the same sex jokes over and over...and over.

ugh

I had high hopes for Frost after seeing his writing credits....for some reason their past triumphs don't seem to make it to this film....so maybe Payne's past woes won't either....ya know reverse psychology....lol
