New Flash Gordon film views

Now this fits Vaughn like a glove. I am excited for this because it's going to be unabashed fun while embracing its roots but also have that unique Vaughn spin on it.

What I don't understand is why did Fox buy the right to Mark Millar's 'Starlight'? Like many of Millar's other original work, it's heavily derivative of other's people's work, in this case 'Flash Gordon'. Just with a twist: He's an older man going to back to adventure. So clever, Mark! (It's a good comic overall though with beautiful art.)

You couldn't ask for a better fit than Vaughn. Futuristic camp/nostalgia is his specialty.

Flash Gordon is a potential franchise.

Starlight is probably another solid entry with no plan for a sequel cause there's no other books to support it.

I won't front, was gunning for a Brad Bird to take this or Buck Rogers, but Vaughn does good work. Not a massive drooling fanboy for him, but I dig his skills.

Vaughn would be amazing but I really don't see how you can pull it off. You can make it a generic white guy saves the world story sort of story and it will make millions of dollars but it just won't feel the same without the high campness

Vaughn is perfect for this. Now who will they cast as Flash?

I am SO here for a Matthew Vaughn Flash Gordon!

Some casting ideas -

Dan Stevens - Flash Gordon
Greta Gerwig - Dale Arden
Mark Strong - Dr. Hans Zarkov
Javier Bardem - Ming the Merciless
Genesis Rodriguez - Princess Aura
Michael Fassbender - Prince Barin
Russell Crowe - Prince Vultan
Jason Flemyng - Klytus

Don't forget the classy European guys like Timothy Dalton and Max Von Sydow (Swedish).

Heck, Ben Kingsley could do Ming. After seeing The Dictator I'm sure it's not beneath him.

Javier for Ming! :cmad:

Or if you want to go Scandinavian, Mads Mikkelsen.

Sundancer: Do you really want them to use actors from the previous film?

Sydow is doing Star Wars now, I think it will be enough

How about Channing Tatum?

I'd be so psyched if Vaughn did this. His CBMS have all been great and he'd be a great fit for this

Please no!

Channing Tatum does not do well with special effects or action very well. See his terrible performances in G.I. Joe, White House Down, Jupiter Ascending etc.

That's why studios don't trust him anymore on their big budget movies like Gambit... Oh wait!

More seriously, though, I respect you personal opinion but GI Joe predates the "good Tatum" phase while WHD was decent fun for me unlike OHF, which tried to be too serious at times. In GI Joe 2, everyone and the studio recognized Tatum's influence and even increased his scenes, reportedly, in which he was, admittedly, good.

In addition, he did two hugely successful Jump Street movies which, lest you forget, are also "Action" movies.

Quite simply told, he is, at the bare minimum, good enough to make the final shortlist.

PS: I got nothing for Jupiter Ascending. So, you got me there.

Do you think that Alan Rickman might be just a little too old to play Ming the Merciless? I think he is a great villain! See Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Sweeney Todd, and especially Die Hard . . . this guy is ultimate evil.
