New Joe? Fridays: Back in Wack

FNSM is a lesser title. ASM could and, more importantly, should have a good balance of humor, action, and dramatic characterization, and Slott can do that in spades.

Plus, I haven't heard anything about David leaving. Granted, I tend not to follow the news on ****ty comics I don't read.

I'm surpirsed I haven't seen anyone say the're boycotting Marvel if Slott doesn't get the job.

Because that would be stupid and utterly false.

I'd just stop reading Spider-Man comics if crappy writers came on. No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Figuratively speaking, of course. I'd love to throw some babies out.

What's with all this clamoring for Fraction to write a Spider-Man title? I mean the Sensational Annual was ok, but I really don't have faith in his solo efforts if Punisher War Journal is the litmus test. (Casanova not withstanding)

I can see why you're not liking PWJ, and as long as you understand you're in minority, then that's cool with me. Fraction's Casanova is crazy good, and he seemed to really have a good handle on Peter and MJ in the Annual. Factor that in with him tearing it up with Iron Fist, and why not? I wouldn't mind if he took on a Spider-book. I actually wouldn't even mind if Larrocca drew it, either.

What the **** does it matter if I'm in the minority or not? And I specifically said solo efforts, aka, not Iron Fist.

Well, a LOT of people are enjoying the book. You're not and that's fine. But that doesn't change the fact that the majority of people DO think Fraction is a good fit for the Punisher.

I was just saying, why not? If you're discounting Iron Fist because of Brubaker, okay then. But Casanova is great and MOST people think PWJ is great, and the one time he took on Spidey was great. So, why not?

Fraction wrote a story about Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla racing to stop J. P. Morgan, Thomas Edison, and Andrew Carnegie from taking over the world with black magic. PWJ's suckage aside, he gets my stamp of approval on anything.

Who is most people though? I'd say it's pretty split on these boards as to people who like and don't like Punisher War Journal. Plus, add to the fact the free fall that comic is taking on the oh so important sales charts, I don't see how you're coming to that conclusion.

Either way, I'm not that impressed with Fraction. Sure Casanova is great, but that's a completely different thing than Spider-Man. PWJ is stupid, and he has Brubaker to help him out on Iron Fist. I don't see where he all of a sudden has the credentials to write a Spider-Man title, based on that. Then, add the fact that he's already doing The Champions ongoing, I think he has too much on his plate as is.

I forgot about that one! The Five Fists of Science. Even the name is a winner.

****ing Carnegie.:cmad:

Every time I hear about the almighty sales charts, I can't help comparing comic fans to the Roman mob.

Usually our enemy, though. A lot of stuff I like tends not to be popular. Hence the ever-looming cancellations of Runaways (before Whedon, anyway), Spider-Girl, and Manhunter, three comics I love, and the ultimate cancellation of Thor, my favorite comic character's book. :(

It's going to be ok.

Back on the Fraction point, I realize I really don't care that much considering I don't plan on buying any Spider-Man titles, like ever again, even with Slott on one of them.   :trans:

Most people being people from he boards, "critics", people at the shop and in general just people I've talked to. In that case, "most" people like it. And the boards on here aren't as even as you'd like to think. I think it's pretty safe to say more people like PWJ than don't. But hey, this isn't a pissing contest.

Your point about the book slipping is a point made by everyone when they want to justify their opinion. Every book debuts and then slips. Unless you're a big event, or Brian Hitch is drawing you, you're going to slip until your publisher pulls a stunt to pick up your lagging sales, and then the whole process repeats itself. That's just a fact.

Now, you do have a valid point about Fraction spreading himself pretty thin. Between Iron Fist, PWJ, Casanova and the Champions (or whatever it's going to end be being called), that's a decent sized work load. That alone might rule out any possibility of him picking up a Spider-Man book. Although if offered the shot, I'd pull a Slott and drop one of the others in a heartbeat.

Actually, I don't even see people talking about the title anymore at all on these boards. Do we still have a Punisher forum?

I dunno. I'm refering more to reviews of the actual issues when they hit, right here in the BOUGHT/THOUGHT threads.

But that's always from the same people, GNR and is The Punisher kid still around? I liked messing with him. And it's not like everyone on this board does a review for a comic in the B/T.

No, but Dread likes it, and pretty much everyone responds to his reviews with approval of the book.

Damn. Even Dread likes it.

The last issue, the only people to review the book were Dread and GNR (yes, I checked) and actually, no one even responed to their reviews. I can't make this up, because you can easily see for yourslef. So I really don't see the overwhelming approval of the title. I mean, you didn't even review it, do you even buy the title?

Game. Set. Match.:o

I bought the first issue. I liked it a lot. I think what happened was, I missed the second issue somehow, and when the third one dropped, the second one was sold out, so I didn't buy it. I have been reading them at the store, though, and I like it. It's campy in a good way, and I like Ariel's ridiculous art.

By the way, if your that dead set on proving....wait....what are you trying to prove again? Anyway, I'm not going to look up past B/T threads. With the Hype being what it is, that could take an hour. My point still stands that a lot of people like the book. I like it. Dread likes it, and by default, the "Dreadites" are going to at least say they like it. I'm not even going to count GNR, because, well, his taste in comics blows.

If you want to look up past B/T threads and scan for replies to Dread's reviews, by all means, go ahead.
