New Joe? Fridays: Back in Wack

I already said "Game.Set. Match" so I don't even know why you're responding.

Because your points suck? No...oh wait! I remember.

Because I'm right.

No, he would've said one by now. You know BW. He wouldn't have been able to help himself.

I bought the first issue. I liked it a lot. I think what happened was, I missed the second issue somehow, and when the third one dropped, the second one was sold out, so I didn't buy it. I have been reading them at the store, though, and I like it. It's campy in a good way, and I like Ariel's ridiculous art.

By the way, if your that dead set on proving....wait....what are you trying to prove again? Anyway, I'm not going to look up past B/T threads. With the Hype being what it is, that could take an hour. My point still stands that a lot of people like the book. I like it. Dread likes it, and by default, the "Dreadites" are going to at least say they like it. I'm not even going to count GNR, because, well, his taste in comics blows.

If you want to look up past B/T threads and scan for replies to Dread's reviews, by all means, go ahead.

I saw that word and suddenly I got flashbacks to AMY OF DARKNESS. So some of you imagine me leading an army of plastic skeletons held up on strings that easily can get blowed up while I wear some snazzy costume and deliver over-the-top lines?

SWEET! Thanks for the compliment. :woot: I'm not being sarcastic, either.

I am tired of "events", and I won't be getting "One More Day" (which sounds like a Bond title). But the concept of some of the major books getting creator overhauls, including Slott somewhere, reminded me of something TheCorpulent1 said once, about sometimes at Marvel these days, even if an event is lackluster, it leaves the ground fresh for some new relaunches, or new writers coming aboard.

Frankly, yes, Slott has writer support, but let's judge the man on his own merits; he has been in the industry for quite a while and not only has a lot of knowledge, but experience. He just isn't as pompus about it and still has that connection to the fanboys, that some writers, too many in my books, sort of overlook as they become "artistes'".

As for Fraction on a Spider-book, that is a chin scratcher. Yes, even I enjoy PUNISHER: WAR JOURNAL. And, yes, co-writing IRON FIST is not the same as a solo gig, but we don't know how the workload is distributed. Mark Millar once joked about being given co-writing credit with Bendis for the first 6 issues of UFF because he "maybe did 6-8 pages an issue", implying Bendis did the lion's share of the work. Brubaker could be doing the lion's share, or Fraction could be scripting from Bru's stories, or whatnot. But, whatever, it counts as a hit. However, the humor in PWJ is not the same as the style that would fit a Spider-book. I haven't read his SENSATIONAL stuff, but I might give it a try. There are at last 1-2 other posters on the B/T who dislike the book to my memory. I guess I enjoy it because while I sort of like what the Punisher fights for, I've never been as keen on him as a character onto himself. And even I am a little partisan on him donning a Cap costume. But it's all too silly that I can't keep from reading it, and it never pisses me off.

Speaking of books, I've been hesitant to post at this week's B/T again because of the fuss I caused, but upon re-reading Mighty Avengers #3, it is a bit of fun and better than I made it sound. I do have a Bendis-bias (I haven't forgiven Marvel for "The Sentry Hoax" and that was like 7 years ago; ever think I am forgiving Bendy for his flops?) but it probably is my fave book he does right now, unless the next issue of THE ILLUMINATI (which he co-writes with Reed) knocks it out of the park.

Well, it's not so much a compliment, as it is a fact. Like anywhere, people tend to suck up to the people higher up on food chain. In the case of the B/T threads, it's obvious that you're as high as it gets, for whatever reason. People see other people resonding favorably, and waiting in anticipation for your reviews, and naturally they want to kiss your ass to get in the good graces of the "review king". I don't understand it, but I can recognize that it's there. That said, I personally do think you're a good poster, and an asset to the boards. Besides, who else am I going to chat about Marvel's sales figures with?

And like I said in another thread (or was it this one?), Civil War is and can be a great thing. It gives the Marvel Universe a direction that it didn't have before, and the possibility for new and exciting stories is limitless. Now, if that comes to pass or not remains to be seen. I think Avengers: Initiative is a off to a good start. Also, it's generally agreed upon that New Avengers has never been better and that Mighty Avengers is fun read (even with it's flaws).

Fraction on a Spider-book isn't the most obvious of choices, but that doesn't make it bad one. As JMS has been stated to be the king of Spider-Man characterization (no one does a better Aunt May), Fraction has proven with just one issue, that he can write the marriage between Peter and MJ better than anyone. It's what a marriage should be, and he seems to be the only person that understands that, and that it doesn't have to be a bad thing. I'm all for Fraction taking on a Spider-book, even he might not be the "most deserving".

And speaking of more issues of New Avengers: Illuminati...Where the hell are they?

Fraction's Sensational Annual was one of the best single Spidey stories of the decade.

Spidey fans would be lucky to get him on one of the regular Spidey titles...

I agree 100%. Come to think of it CS, there's not much you say that I don't agree with on the topic of Spidey books.

Really? I'll try to look for it on Wednesday on the shelf or in the back issue bin. In-between racing all over the city for DYNAMO 5 #3, course. ;)

I don't have anything against Fraction, though. He obviously likes to have fun with his comics, which usually sparks my interest more than the latest "I want to make my stamp and forever change the status quo with shock value" writer (and DC has a few of those too).

God dammit, Dread. Pull list.

But that's assuming MJ and Pete are still together after One More Day.:o

When was that ever up for debate? One More Day's about Aunt May, not MJ.

You would think that wouldn't you. My theory on the whole thing is that Peter is going to send MJ away for her own safety because of Aunt May's situation i.e. dying. Therefore, Quesada doesn't make Peter a widower, there is no divorce, so he keeps his word and gets rid of MJ at the same time. Hooray beer!

Seriously, just read the intro:

In Civil War, Peter Parker made a choice. He chose to trust a man he viewed as a mentor, as a father. He trusted Iron Man. He blieved that unmasking in front of the world would help his friend, and that Iron Man could keep his family safe.

He was wrong.

After a sniper’s bullet nearly claimed the life of Aunt May, Peter decided he must send a message to those who targeted him and his family. Donning his black costume, he became a dark avenger, tracking down those responsible and making them pay. One by one, he faced his enemies and showed no mercy.

But there is one more problem.

Aunt May’s health has taken a turn for the worse. Mary Jane’s life is still in danger. No one he turns to can help him. Peter Parker has only one option left in front of him. One more choice.

What would you do, if you only had…

One More Day

I think you're giving them WAY too much credit. One More Day is going to about Peter pulling out all the stops in a last ditch effort to save Aunt May. He will, because we all know she ain't going anywhere, and then we'll all toss it to the backs our minds and gear up for Slott's run on the book.

You underestimate the power of Quesada.

And for kicks, an article about in Spanish!

No, the problem was that I once OVERestimated him. That problem is no longer an issue.

I don't know, I think he'd be better suited to FNSM. At the moment it has more of a quirky style and is more focussed on spider-man's past and how that effects him today. Now THAT sounds like perfect fodder for Slott

I know what you mean. Slott's writing style and the way he's written Spidey would definitely fit that title. But I agree with Corp that Mr. Slott deserves his rightful place as writer of Amazing Spider-Man. The guy is WELL overdue, in my opinion. But I do know what you mean. I could easily see a Slott/Wieringo team on FNSM. Or possibly Slott/Walker, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

But what I'm really love to see is Slott/Romita Jr. on Amazing. Now THAT'S entertainment. Maybe even Slott/Bagley. That would be a wet dream too.

While Quesada may be a jerk sometimes in his interviews and on his Joe Friday's...the guy isn't dumb. He does seem to have an idea of what's going on around him. And I don't think he's going to take three core Spider-Man titles and put a bunch of scrubs on them after the great work done by Sacasa and David. They did say that Spider-Man was going to be heading into a completely different direction after One More Day and they aren't kidding. I'm extremely excited to see who will be doing the writing and art duties on all the Spider-Man titles after OMD...and my fingers are crossed that Slott AT LEAST takes over ONE of the Spidey titles.

SIAT, refresh my memory banks here, you're one of those MJ haters correct?
