New Joe Fridays - One More Day Special

I really like it when artists get into why they drew what they did. His Peter face got out of whack in the first issue, but from reading this, and seeing the pencils on the link, I mean, there's no doubt Joe Q is an artist, and one pushing his craft forward. Like I said, the Pete face thing wasn't a great stylistic choice. But that's just what it was, a style. He can obviously do great stuff, I mean, his Wolverine Origins covers are some of the best in the biz, they almost make you want to pick up that terrifying book of the damned.

A lot of the those W: O covers are nasty, ugly. He's a good artist, for sure, but sometimes he shoots for things that go beyond what my eyes can take.

I don't know I haven't really spotted any Origins covers lately. For awhile there, the first 10 issues or so, he was hitting 'em out of the park

edit: not that one omega red cover where wolvie's upside down (#6 I believe). I just googled a few of the covers and #1 and #5 are really, really great

This is the one that sticks out in my mind as the worst of the lot:

See, I think that looks pretty good. Except for the ground...sky...water?

these are better

Didn't want to break the h-scroll with that one

edit: wait ONE sec

I don't like Logan's insane shoulders and the fact that Quesada almost never draws hair. He just outlines it to be colored in later. I hate that.

That Gary Frank cover in the link you posted kicks ass, though.

god, dammit.

that cover isn't as good. Q's #5 is a masterpiece

The only thing that's cool about it is that he ripped off of Alfons Mucha.

Yeah, that is cool. It's cool that he recognizes and appreciates design, and then transfers that to his own work.

Also he drew pretty comics people.:o

Your opinion, not mine. Also, no where on that cover (or the others that he's done in that style) does he give credit to Mucha. Hackery.

Aw, that's Bee Ess. Nobody gives credit to Michelangelo when they do Piata covers:whatever:

There's a difference between homaging an image that everyone knows and ripping off a style that few are familiar with and calling it your own.

Yeah, he did use the style on, oh, one single comic book cover.

now, for PJ to search google for another Quesada cover in Mucha's style.

which, even when he does do that, I still disagree with his viewpoint.

Yeah, he did use the style on, oh, one single comic book cover.

You're kidding right? Try "most of the projects he's ever done." The interiors on Daredevil, One More Day, the covers to Ninjak and Vampirilla...do I need to go on?

I have to admit I did miss these. Especially with Joe Q managing to come aboard for another interview and another barrage of inevitable fan criticism. But, he's apparently been good enough to warrent imitation by DiDio.

It was good seeming him comment on the passing of 'Ringo and the charity stuff.

One line did amuse me:

Joe Q said:
When it comes to any big stories in the Marvel Universe I always make it a point of letting everyone up the food chain know what’s going to go down. The beauty of this new regime at Marvel is that we operate in a very synergistic manner, which helps run all aspects of our businesses in better ways. We actually have some amazing creative discussions, especially with our West Coast office, because they’re running a creative shop as well and they’re always interested in the upcoming events at Marvel.

Civil War was a perfect example of this, before any of it happened, everyone at Marvel was aware of what was coming and what to expect. You’d be surprised how much advanced knowledge of stuff can help out our other divisions like licensing, movies, etc. It makes coordination a lot easier and as a company we can be more focus in all of our marketing efforts.

The perfect follow-up question would have been, "Fair enough, Joe. Obviously, synergy up and down the line is very important to you and you make efforts at this. But, why, then was CIVIL WAR full of almost weekly contradictions and confusion? No two writers seemed to comprehend what the SHRA exactly meant and had their own interpretation. And even now we have books that clash. So, what gives? What more can be done, Joe?" But, nothing. I mean Joe said nothing wrong, I just saw the hint of possibly more.

Obviously, Joe Q misses drawing at times, is the tone I get from him. He's the EIC now but he is a penciller at heart and regardless of whether you like or hate his style these days (he varies to me; sometimes his art rocks and other times it looks a bit exaggerated), it is something he obviously loves doing. And hey, he isn't Liefield. Dr. Strange, eh? JMS loves him his magic. Are those rumors of a worldwide magical mindwipe to solve the identity woes true? And could the backfire ruin the Parker marriage? Stay tuned.

OMFG! New joe fridays. YES! YES! Oh god Yes! No, I am that happy.:o
