I saw the first two episodes of the show and well... I can definitely say I'm not in the target demographic haha.

The show is...ok, but not something I'll ever really go out of my way to watch, I'll catch it if it happens to be on when looking for something to watch, but it isn't something that really grabs me.

However, at least Spidey-suit isn't Stark technology and he made it himself.

Is it on part with Spectacular or Ultimate? As far as recent series go, anyway.

Oh, definitely USM. It doesn't even come close to Greg Weisman's SSM, especially if you take into consideration such factors as: neat intertwined stories that pay respect to a lot of classic Spidey comics and, at the same time, are going into fresh, new territories with their takes on a lot of iconic characters (Harry, the Green Goblin, Tombstone), amazing & dynamic animation, rockin' soundtrack (that comes along with a catchy theme song and an actual visually striking intro, something that's is still missing from Spidey cartoons ever since they premiered USM), pitch perfect assembly of very talented and highly skilled actors.

Its definitely more interesting than USM was so far. It has the potential to be a good show but based on just these initial episodes I don't think it can reach SSM levels (but as I've said before I don't expect it to either).

Episode 1, and some segments of the origin (1-2 to be more precise) feel like USM without fourth wall breakage.
Episode 2 and other segments of the origin (mostly part 5) are a step up from USM, but I think it would be better to compare them to the MTV series or Spider-Man Unlimited instead.

At this point, I think it's fair to say that both Unlimited and MTV's pilot episodes turned out to be far more entertaining and exciting than Disney's latest attempt. Speaking of which, I made a very lengthy post about the significance of several Spidey pilots in the medium of television on a separate Toonzone forum (4th post after the main one): http://www.toonzone.net/forums/thre...ode-for-a-spider-man-animated-series.5614652/

It's occasionally on par with Spectacular because we're finally back to a serialized series than can actually take a breather and spend some quality down-earth/grounded time with his supporting cast. The villains could definitely tone it down a bit on the cheese, but that's to be expected. Some of the jokes and the drama could be better written and timed.

Watched both episodes, finally.

Here's some random thoughts...

It's great seeing Peter making his own suit and tech.

I really enjoy the color palette that they've chosen.

That animation...so bad at times. It's like they're attempting to mimic the effect of hand drawn animation. It's not working.

Where'd all the good intro songs go?

The humor falls flat.

How is Peter, a brand new student put in charge of moving confiscated experiments?

Harry is manufacturing the pumpkin bombs? Um. Interesting.

The Smythes are so bad. Just awful. Laughably bad. Like all Spencer needed was a change of clothes and some wax to twirl his moustache. Seriously, who writes this garbage.

I don't mind the idea of Otto being a young genius teaching at a school. Interested to see more but my expectations are tempered based on the rest of the show.

Peter has the most annoying voice/personality in the show. He's obnoxious.

On that note, my two favorite characters are Anya and Miles. Good sounding voices. I think I'll enjoy watching them once they become part of the Spidey squad.

I love Patton Oswalt. He's a great entertainer and a great comedian. But man, he is the absolute wrong choice to voice Uncle Ben.

I like how they've gotten away from the 4th wall breaking. I'm not totally against the idea of using 4th wall breaking. It can be a useful tool and a good effect for several purposes when used effectively. But not as a constant thing, breaking up the action to explain what is going on to the audience as though we're incapable of understanding just by watching.

Aunt Anna! Yay! That most likely means we'll see MJ.

Did Smythe just say Master Plan? I wonder who he is talking about.

Overall I found the episodes to be watchable. They weren't mind blowing nor was I really enjoying them. And as I think about it I really have no desire to watch them again. It's kinda sad that a Spider-Man show isn't grabbing me like it should or how I would want it to. Definitely not as bad as USM--most of those episodes were such a chore to watch. It's not all bad though and there's some potential here. I give the first two episodes a grade of D. Passable.

....Isn't it sad that everyone is saying that they are happy Spidey is making his own suit and tech? It's like before Homecoming no one would have said ANYTHING about that.

Also, RIGHT on the head with the Smythes being OBVIOUSLY evil. I still say that Alistair and Harry should have had their designs swapped... Is it just me or has most media have had Harry look more and more handsome and put together... I think only Spider-Man TAS and Spectacular tried the Ditko look.

I'm telling you he looked like a pencil neck NERD! I found it fascinating that he was ever in the popular crowd...but then it dawned on me... he's only there since he has money...

I will say I think that Peter was toned down in the second episode. Him having to break everything down into a scientific explanation in the first episode was pretty annoying to me. It was like "OKAY ALREADY Peter! I get it! You're smart!" Methinks being around people as smart as he is will allow him to understand basic figures of speech, as they don't need to have things explained to them...

I find it pleasantly amusing, something I did not expect to say.

My thought process exactly.

Pardon the expletive, but I really thwippin loved it. Love how it feels like an updated version of the Spectacular Spider-Man feel and I do love how geeky/nerd Peter sounds. Truly impressed by the animation and how it feels inspired by anime, and I'm not even a big fan of animes. But it just suits the show so right. It feels like an amalgamation of Dan Slott's Spider-Man feel (my favorite Spidey writer) and Hannah Blumenreich's Spidey Zine. Truly impressed with it and I'll definitely keep following it.

Figured that was both a joke and intended set-up for the ensuing drama.

Apparently, he's hiding w/e they actually are since he exclaimed something like "what? no." and then said he wasn't going to give up the secret that easily.

They so far made the Smythes the new Osborns, unless they're supposed to parallel as cheap knockoffs. I'm fine with Harry looking and acting like he's more put together; assuming the big brother position in their friendship. Yet at the same time, he gets manipulated and has other bad stuff happen to him to where he's already got a grudge against a number of people including Spider-Man. He's certainly en route to becoming a villain.

They took a really neat approach. First day at a genius school and he's actually confused on how to act like one of them.

hi, before my kinda long comment, (trust me) whats the general consensus on Iron man Armored adventures in the Marvel community?

No idea. Never watched it and never followed the show.

^I'm with Venom, I didn't even look up opinion online.

I saw a couple episodes of Armored Adventures, but never really stuck to it. It was one of those shows that I'd only watch if there was nothing else on haha.

I hear it was pretty decent, especially compared to everything Disney/Marvel has been pumping out animation wise. Also, interestingly enough that show made it to 52 episodes, unlike Spectacular Spidey and Wolverine and the X-Men, so I will say that was an crowning achievement in that era of Marvel Animation... like everything in those days it only made it two seasons before it went kaput.

Oh! Another oddity of this cartoon is the fact that Harry has been making BOMBS, yet no one seems to pay that any mind...like at ALL.

Also, said bombs look like the Pumpkin Bombs from Raimi's Spider-Man, so I wonder if they are going to do the armored Goblin look from the same movie to differentiate themselves from both Ultimate's mutated Goblin, and Spectaular's rubber mask Green Goblin.

Not only that, Harry laughed and denied it when Pete confronted him with that. I thought "to heck with it".

Yeah. Total missed opportunity.
I am still very curious what he actually intends those things to be. If they were bombs even according to him, he would have said something to the degree of "how did you..?" Then, again...these geniuses seem to love making dangerous equipment or equipment that can be tampered easily enough to be dangerous.

Anyone else find it odd that Peter in the Ultimate Spiderman toon never had any love interests. He was not into any girls or boys. It will be seriously awkward if that happened on this show.

To be fair that show didn't really focus on his regular supporting cast as much as some of the other Spidey shows do. It was more focused on him teaming up with other people and dealing with Avengers/SHIELD stuff.

I'm happy for that. Romance dramas can be tired and annoying, under underwhelming writing they won't be any better.
Personally speaking, I would love to see this show ignore romance for the first and second seasons. I guess it's ok to bring it in for the third.

I also found that to be rather interesting. These 'genius' level kids are making some pretty dangerous equipment and then the brand new student gets to come in and be put in charge of moving that equipment down to storage. Lots of unproven trust being granted here lol. And then Harry is manufacturing bombs. No big deal.

Well, in that series he was often an insufferable, obnoxious jackass. What girl would be interested?

Just saw this online and I'm not a fan of what they're doing with the Shocker :o And I guess the other kid is supposed to be Clash.

That clip borders on USM cartoon level of cringeworthy. No, I take that back, it for sure crossed the border and set up camp.
